Moist and Chewy Cakes?
... hey wait a minute - wasn't the Steve Ballmer guy heading a brand like that at P&G before he joined Microsoft like it says here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Ballmer) & here (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/exec/steve/2003/11-13businessweek.mspx) ?
uh..... hm.....
it had Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld in it. i really don't know what else to say...
The add shown on T.V. is a bit different, It's missing the family speaking in Spanish for example. I wonder why.
I switched to Macbook Pro after being frustrated from Windows XP and of course as a graphic designer I remembered how fun and easy it was to work on a Mac-based system way back when I was a student (9 years ago).
However, I'm now a dedicated web designer and even though it is definitely 'cooler' to work on an OS that doesn't crash randomly or takes 5 minutes to shut down (including the usual AntiVirus' constant 'end program' screens during shutdown etc.) it's ridiculously tedious to create websites using marker-standard software like CS3’s Dreamweaver. I mean, why is it impossible to copy-paste tables on a Mac? Check out dozens of websites that take sides on who’s fault is it – Apple’s or Adobe’s – that this trivial feature is not supported? I have to use VMWare’s Fusion to install Windows on a virtual machine just so I can use it to create, copy, and paste tables. I also had to buy a copy of Windows Vista of course, and I also installed a copy of CS3 for Windows which I happily borrowed from my previous workplace.
When it comes to ‘fun’ Mac is superior. Almost every major feature of Leopard has a wow-factor. But hey, I need to work to make a living, especially since I need to fund the $2000+ Macbook Pro, the $130 Windows Vista, the $2000+ CS3 (for Mac), the $200 VMWare Fusion, Microsoft’s Office for Mac, and the list goes on and on.
Using the Mac as for work is a disappointing experience. I feel I’ve downgraded and not upgraded my most important work tool. If I were a chef it’d be like replacing my trusty kitchen knife to some super-cool and beautiful cutting device that doesn’t deliver. Hey, most of the time I just need to cut that tomato, if you catch my drift.
There are many more things that I know I could’ve done better using Windows – some features in Mail are seriously lacking compared to Outlook or ‘Entourage’, Apple works is nice but an underdog to Office (although I can copy and paste lists of file names into an Excel column, something I can’t do in Windows), CuteFTP for files transfer is way better than Duck or all the other FTP software titles for Mac (tried most of them, bought some of them). After I bought my Macbook Pro and brought it to my native home in Israel (just imagine paying $4000 for a Macbook Pro – that’s the cost in Israel) and especially booked an Apple Tutor or Apple Genius (another $150) to come to my home and give me a full tutorial for 3 hours on that thing called Leopard, he had to admit that there are serious problems with Mac compares to PC, that there are things that can easily be accomplished with Windows but are simply impossible to do with Mac OS. Unfortunately for me, these trivial things are necessary for me to do on daily basis.
My bottom line – I wouldn’t give up my Mac to return to PC. I’ll just have to wait for those patches and upgrades to be released that will hopefully solve my problems. But isn’t that what I used to do when I had Windows? I feel like a Mac fangirl waiting for 3 days in a line around the block for… what?
I don't get it. Maybe it's because I'm a diehard Mac user but I like commercials that actually tout the products or at least mentions the product maybe?
If this was an attempt to "build rapport" with the audience, it failed. If I wanted to watch an aging, not-funny-or-relevant manchild extol the virtues of wearing wingtips in the shower...well, I don't want to watch that actually...
I'm actually surprised. I have yet to see a single comment from someone stating that the commercial was simply an invitation to talk about Microsoft. It doesn't need to say anything. unfortunately, this type of advertising is so affective because it says absolutely nothing about the product. It just makes you think about it. You are your own advertisement by thinking about it. perfection in advertising. Now some of you may think that I'm being ludicrous, but how many of the same people just had their friends watch it because they thought it was so stupid... and their friends, ad infinitum. get the picture? that kind of noise is gold in MS direction, even it you don't like or hate the product.
just because we talk about it doesn't mean we're going to rush out and get Vista. And isn't the purpose of advertising? TO SELL SOMETHING? Millions are spent on advertising and there's no return on that investment besides people talking about it? Well that's money well spent. You know what else got people talking? New Coke...and we all know what happened with that...it goes down in history as one of the worst ideas in the business world EVER...
But I will say...that commercial did put me in the mood for good churro...
LMFAO @ an actor making me like Vista... um, no.
woah anybody else notice that the card bill whips out certifying himself as a member has his mug shot on it!!!! the one he had taken after he was arrested for speeding! or is that just grossly irrelevant information reserved for nerds and stalkers
I loved it. Of course, I have an entire blog dedicated to shoe-related humor and trivia (http://www.SatisfiedSole.com)_
i want a churro !!!
What a perfect ad for Microsoft!!!! First someone like Apple innovates with their ads, then MS responds with a widely publicized response that does nothing but promises that soon they will have a great response. Sounds like DOS, and Windows, and virtually everything else they have done for the past 25 years. I wonder if they realize how perfectly this ad is a metaphor for their pattern of abysmal failure to deliver anything of consequence?
Interesting choice of the word "delicious", seeing as Yahoo has owned the website del.icio.us since 2005 (and thus the rights to the word in english, spanish, french and chinese). I smell a lawsuit! :-)
Bloody hell! Listen to yourselves. Mac this, PC that, Linux the other. Who gives a shit. I use all 3 in 3 completely different ways. Linux - both command and KDE as a media center. PC- 2008 64bit server as a workstation/ game machine and Mac pro for photo. What the hell are you all banging on about. Horses for courses my merry chums. Chill out!
If you want a PC ease of life - 2008 it is. In standard mode it's got the looks only a mother could love. In desktop mode with a few mods. Sweet. And, gaming wise 8gb ram is utilised nicely. any problems it has more options and diagnostic tools than you can shake a shitty stick at.
Linux - KDE for beautiful custom GUI. Add-ons for media prowess. Runs for ever without a hitch.
Mac - same. No bother. No right click. no need. does what it says on the tin. Fast.
Learn to adapt peeps.
critiquing the commercial- yo, way too subtle and thus arcane for the GP. not entertaining. remote message. though, by cheesey eng major standards - WHOA! The whole tongue and sole innuendo vis a vis the shoe fit session banter. Looking into windows to discover the mastermind behind it. fluffy stuff. the flubbed humor- wearing shoes in the shower misses the mark. remains superfluous to the audience. on its own it's plain awful. sure, you can hear the segue coming round but interest in it is now lost. whatever agency was involved in generating this idea; whomever the people that agave this a green light are to blame for this lead balloon. when presenting tech stuff ya gotta WOW them. that's the only way to WOO the prospective customer. all told, MS can afford to make blunders like this. it is still the #1 OS in the world. YO!
