Sony's SOCOM PS3 Bluetooth headset priced, detailed for North America
We know, we know -- you already know most everything there is to know about Sony's SOCOM PS3 Bluetooth headset, but up until now, the most important tidbit has remained a mystery. The device will be launching this fall as part of the SOCOM: Confrontation bundle for $59.99, or if you just loathe the whole SOCOM series, you can pick it up all by its lonesome for $49.99. Tough call, huh?

I'd feel ripped off buying just the headset.
Diogo @ Sep 4th 2008 5:57AM
me too, im going to buy the bundle
jimmyink @ Sep 4th 2008 7:57AM
its called marketing... dumbass
jimmyink @ Sep 4th 2008 8:45AM
Sorry, that was harsh. Maybe I should explain...
Let's say the headset actually on cost $20. But they want to sell some software as well. So, why not bump the price up to $50, but also bundle it with a game for $60, that way, when little Johnny goes to buy the headset, he'll think "well, for $10 more I can get a game, what a good deal!". Worst case, they only sell a headset which is a $30 bonus.
It feels so much better to educate people than put them down!

You'd do better to buy the bundle, and just trade the game.
Seriously, the game alone ("Pre-Owned") would sell for more than $10 at any game store, or online.
Mile @ Sep 4th 2008 6:42AM
Lotta hassle for not much of a payoff, when I can instantly have $10 for 2 beers by buying it sans game.
That's the life for me!
Duggie @ Sep 4th 2008 6:02AM
Buy the bundle and sell the game....
avester @ Sep 4th 2008 6:11AM
This is probably made since people buy the game just for the headset, and then those who buy the game without the headset, realize that they need one.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 4th 2008 6:39AM
Obviously you all have no clue because why would you want to sell Socom Confrontation you douchebags? The mic has many features that you folks left out, for instance when the headset dies you can put it in its charging stand and still use it like a desktop mic, it has a HQ mode which filters out background noise, this HQ mode also controls your characters on screen facial movements and commands that are given via voice prompt. the headset gets at least 8 full hours of talk time. It automatically pairs with the ps3 via USB, can be used with phones or anything BT.
So yeah this is a keeper and so is the game.
avester @ Sep 4th 2008 7:06AM
Charger and high-quality mic?
Oh wow.
SteveJ @ Sep 4th 2008 7:39AM
Douchebag - one reason you might buy the bundle and sell the game is because you want a good bluetooth headset for cheap and you don't even have a PS3 in the first place. The real question is, is the headset good, and is it worth $50 (as compared to other bluetooth headsets in that price range)? If it is, then buying the bundle and selling the game is a win. The only downside is that, seeing the logo, people will laugh at you because they'll think you were stupid enough to buy a PS3.
hexhunter @ Sep 4th 2008 7:35AM
I hope the headset by itself is cheaper in Europe, I like having games on my HD, especially now that LBP is BD-only, but I still want the headset.
They should let you download the game to your hard drive when you have the BD version, either by installing from the disc, or downloading from the store...
Covarr @ Sep 4th 2008 7:48AM
Hmm. Pay the price of a typical PS3 game for a PS3 game with a headset? Or pay $10 less for just the headset, and then spend more on the game alone later on? Tough call...
Wait, no it isn't.
jeff @ Sep 4th 2008 7:48AM
wow u dont own a ps3 but il probably buy this and use it with my phone till i get a ps3. well actually my roomate has a ps3 so il just steal hers to use with the game. still a good excuse to purchase
HAZE @ Sep 4th 2008 8:21AM
You really would be stupid to not buy the bundle. I'm really glad that this headset will be integrated with the firmware to make a perfect connection. The voice issues have been the only bad thing about the Playstation Network. I can't wait for SOCOM! Beta starts tomorrow.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 4th 2008 9:28AM
I gots me 10 Beta codes to help people get in on the game.
ScreamingSkull @ Sep 4th 2008 10:48AM
I can't wait to get my email with my code! And of course to actually play the game, though I did also buy a wired usb headset, in case this one sucks.
Emma @ Sep 4th 2008 8:30AM
it's just a shame that voice comms on PS3 games are terrible!
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 4th 2008 9:35AM
Do you have a ps3? Because I find that it is way better than 360 crap. I mean warhawk with the playstation eye cam sounds great with its voice only capture feature.(reduces noise heard from the game) or Resistance it worked great on. GTA IV it sounds awesome, although you can't turn the volume of the other players down.( patch for that soon). So you must have a really crappy 3rd party BT headset or a really bad usb one. Get this and be WOWed!
Emma @ Sep 4th 2008 10:04AM
i do have a PS3 and the in game voice comms are terrible, garbled and incomprehensible most of the time. worst offender is Battlefield Bad Company. Compared to 360, which I used to have, it blows. whomever is at fault needs to fix it. otherwise its a nice headset.
WirelessJedi @ Sep 4th 2008 9:06AM
Is Sony(Ericsson) manufacturing it? Hopefully it's a better product than some of their phones.
Vik @ Sep 4th 2008 9:50AM
If I understand this right, the game is online only, like Warhawk, and wouldn't sell at full retail b/c it lacks single player, so is the game by itself 39.99 or so? If so, it's still a good deal, but you're essentially paying $20 for the headset, not $10, just in case anyone was thinking that. That would definitely factor in to the trade-in value you'd get I'd think. You could probably get $15.
I'm gonna get the bundle b/c despite not having the best graphics and the animations being a bit funky, it looks mad fun.

jimmyink, Way to go Genius. You called someone a "dumbasss" for something your wrong on. That makes you a "stupid$hit"...? SOCOM: Confrontation will retail at $49.99, OR you can purchase the bundle which includes the MIC for 10 bucks more? GET IT? READ PEOPLE, REAAAAAAAAD
Per the other dude thats clueless, If you ever played any SOCOM from PS2. Then you would know it is DEFINITLY not just an online game. It should be. But it's not.
All in all its a good game. It would be the best game ever produced IF................(drum roll) it was for the 360.

ignore me. just testing if i can delete a comment once it's posted. you'd think i'd know by now.
Simon P @ Sep 4th 2008 11:49AM
nope
Rahabib @ Sep 4th 2008 4:53PM
you can use any bluetooth headset. If you dont like the game buy those not this overpriced set. Jabbra makes em for $20. IDK what Sony is thinking.
Poom @ Sep 4th 2008 7:46PM
I think a lot of people still don't know that you can use any bluetooth headset though, especially X360 owners who goes "the ps3 doesn't have a bluetooth headset accessory!!!".
Jack @ Sep 4th 2008 7:10PM
how.... useful?
