EA's Crysis Warhead PC can, uh, play Crysis
Looks like EA's about to cash in on all that "can it run Crysis" chatter -- Crysis Warhead will be accompanied by the launch of a $699 Ultra-built gaming tower that should manage a consistent 30fps. Crytek has been testing on the so-called "Warhead PC" since early on the dev process, tweaking the engine to make sure the game ran well on the 2.66GHz E7300 Core 2 Duo, 512MB GeForce 9800GT and 2GB of RAM-- the rule was "if it sucks on this, the whole thing sucks" -- and it apparently cranks out consistently solid framerates at high quality settings. No word on an exact release date, but for $699 it's not a bad deal -- and hey, it plays Crysis.

Personally I'm just amazed to see such detailed specs in the ad.
what's with all the stupid comments about doom,
don't they know the next game from id Software is RAGE?
I think many people here are missing the entire point of this rig. Its an attempt to squash the myth that consoles are cheaper and better investment for gaming. Its attempt to show that yes, the PC industry can have basic Spec standards for gaming. I'm willing to bet that every upcoming game within the next 5 years is going to run more than adequately on this rig. Sure this rig isn't totally highend but its not suppose to be. Its slightly more expensive than a newly released console, but anyone with iota of intelligence knows a PC can do so much more than gaming. Its the middle ground in which programmers will be using to test their game on, If it runs well on this then there shouldn't be a problem. This will shore up the troubleshooting many game makers run into.
Only problem I see with the specs is the lack of blue-Ray, but I have a feeling Sony wouldn't appreciate their tech being used to kill the Playstation3.
Sounds like you need to give one away (to me.)
Banana Phone. This is a pretty good comp for people that want a cheap gaming rig, and don't want to build it themselves. Stop the whine.
does anyone know if i could connect this system to my plasma tv, prefably via hdmi, if not is there any other way?
doesnt mention what res that this machine achieves 30fps. 640*480 maybe at a push (what res are mobile phones?). reading other benchmarks before purchasing this might be an idea.
oh
comments about, a computer can do so much more than a console is true but, what are kids going to do with a computer other than play games? write pointless comments on arsebook? download illegal content ? Or are you suggesting that they are all going to learn cad and other applications that cost hundreds and hundreds? Maybe if they all got together they could cure cancer. Most homes have some form of pc where they can use word or similar programs.
I dont really like consoles, online sucks and the control system is weak. Pc gaming is the best (for me) but an extremely expensive hobby, where as consoles are relativly cheap and you are guarenteed to be able to play all the games until manufacturers release a new console maybe in 4 years...or you can fork out $500 every 5-6 months to enable you to play the latest games the way they are meant to be played.
