Samsung cranks out netbook in a fit of originality
We're not sure the world needs another white 8.9-inch netbook with a 1.6GHz Atom, but Samsung's got us covered just in case. Not much in the way of detailed specs or pricing, but it looks like Sammy's packed three USB ports, VGA out, a webcam, and WiFi into the case -- or, in other words, it had better make this thing cheap, since it's not going to stand out from the pack otherwise. Hit the read link for more pics.

Is there any hope for any advances in netbook-class processing other than the dual core Atom recently mentioned?
Will we be stuck with 1.6 GHz Atom processors for the conceivable future?
hungry @ Sep 9th 2008 12:25AM
ok it's do u honestly expect more In a >10 inch laptop
who? @ Sep 9th 2008 12:31AM
@hungry
That's what they said about the computers that took up an entire room, but look at us now! That's the thing about technology: you can never expect too much from it!
Heck, I hear on Wednesday we're beating God at his own game and destroying the Earth ahead of schedule! Go us!! Yeah!
Abuzar Baloach @ Sep 9th 2008 12:44AM
How do you know when god wanted to destroy the world? Maybe we aren't destroying it ahead of schedule lol.
computer.dude.28 @ Sep 9th 2008 12:53AM
Abuzar's right, God might blow it up tomorrow, just so nobody can say we beat him to the punch.
Flashpoint @ Sep 9th 2008 1:01AM
Is there an official countdown till the end of the world?
I'm waiting to hear news reports of a massive black hole sucking down France.
d00b @ Sep 9th 2008 1:03AM
According to AMD's 2008 roadmap, the Atom may get a rival come this November, in the form of an "Ultra Value Client":

[I posted this a few days ago, so excuse the redundancy if you see the link already.]
I'm hoping AMD will pair it with a HD-capable chipset, like the mobile variant of the 780G, but realistically, probably not.
Re: The Samsung model - Looks elegant. Keyboard layout looks excellent. Hope it's in the 350-450 range. Here's to competition.
diode3diode @ Sep 9th 2008 1:03AM
Der, Wednesday!
As in Hadron Collider Wednesday, the world will end.
who? @ Sep 9th 2008 1:09AM
@Flashpoint
If France goes first, we can all die politely at least...
gad get @ Sep 9th 2008 1:20AM
@ who?
Ohhhhh! Zing!
Serial 8-Ball Mouse @ Sep 9th 2008 1:28AM
Well supposedly it will be in use by next month, right...?
Hotrod @ Sep 9th 2008 1:55AM
I think it will only be a test. The real fireworks will be October 10th or something.
hungry @ Sep 9th 2008 12:22AM
Shoot I lost the order
WaterBottle @ Sep 9th 2008 12:33AM
With netbooks dime a dozen, the only thing that can really impress me now is a low price.
220v @ Sep 9th 2008 12:38AM
This had better not be another 1024x600 screen. Why is HP Mini Note the only netbook with proper wxga?
avester @ Sep 9th 2008 1:40AM
Since the display is so damn small, that you can't see anything.
hungry @ Sep 9th 2008 12:39AM
@who?
Ur right on like 4years the 3ghz quad core atom will be released
Abuzar Baloach @ Sep 9th 2008 12:43AM
Intellectual and Open-Minded... RIGHT.
hungry @ Sep 9th 2008 12:44AM
ur right about the edit button in not on*_*
sockatume @ Sep 9th 2008 12:44AM
So, if Apple are about to revise the design of their existing products, Engadget shouldn't post anything at all for the 24 hours preceding? Really?
maveric101 @ Sep 9th 2008 12:44AM
/sarcasm
i hope.
sockatume @ Sep 9th 2008 12:45AM
The main thing giving me trouble on current small laptops is the keyboards, so it's good to see another one with a proper cursor key layout.
Invisiblemoose @ Sep 9th 2008 12:45AM
Lol. You're not even good at being a troll.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Sep 9th 2008 12:47AM
Somebody ban this guy's ass.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Sep 9th 2008 12:47AM
Looks like only Sony and Fujitsu haven't released netbooks.............yet.
Hopefully they will differ from all these others ones with the same old 1.6ghz Atom processors and 1024x600 screens, have a little variety.
C4M @ Sep 9th 2008 1:04AM
Perhaps Fujitsu call theirs the U1010?
diode3diode @ Sep 9th 2008 1:12AM
Oh, I can think of other companies that may be joining the party (like Apple). Since we now have Samsung as well as Sylvania, I would like to see somethin' from Mitsubishi or maybe even JVC.
gad get @ Sep 9th 2008 1:32AM
What about LG and Panasonic? I believe they are due as well. (Panasonic, I'm waiting for a Toughnetbook.)
@ diode3diode
I think Apple wants us to see the Air as a "premium" netbook alternative. I really think that's as close as they're gonna come to a netbook. (Although, the fanboys out there would probably say that they already have something better than a netbook: an iPhone!)
diode3diode @ Sep 9th 2008 2:40AM
" I really think that's as close as they're gonna come to a netbook."
That's too bad because ever since I saw the Dell mini, I've been imagining a glowing apple in place of the Dell sign and wishing for a mini ibook-iteration.
iPhone better than a netbook?
... Well, it's there loss.
Striker @ Sep 9th 2008 12:53AM
@Douchebag (You know who you are)
Fuck off. Nobody loves you.
Nilay! Get this guy banned!
UK @ Sep 9th 2008 1:02AM

8 replies already? Engadget readers must be the stupidest, most easily baited 14 year olds on the entire fucking internet.
chuck @ Sep 9th 2008 1:32AM
Is it me or do i see a HDMI port on this thing?(near the power button)
WK @ Sep 9th 2008 2:18AM
Looks like a laptop security lock slot. But the symbol near it looks like the Sony MagicGate emblem...
gad get @ Sep 9th 2008 1:34AM
This may be the classiest looking netbook yet! I think the only other netbook with such good looks is the Aspire One.
Hotrod @ Sep 9th 2008 1:51AM
Definitely. I would pay a little bit more for this than other netbooks, just because it looks like it has great fit and finish.
gad get @ Sep 9th 2008 1:37AM
And I'm liking that keyboard.
brie987 @ Sep 9th 2008 1:44AM
$299 SOLD!
maveric101 @ Sep 9th 2008 1:59AM
@ 8-ball
i thought it might just be sarcasm, but after looking at his comment history, he really is just a huge fucking troll.
maveric101 @ Sep 9th 2008 2:01AM
btw, what happened to "lowest ranked?" this guy deserves it.
substance90 @ Sep 9th 2008 2:07AM
The world just got a better place... we`ve got another 1,6ghz netbook asus clone. yay!
Valgas @ Sep 9th 2008 2:24AM
it looks hot, but what is most important to me is what's on the inside. Let's Get Wifi AND bluethooth in this biznitch. and an HDD.

This is a plea to Samsung. Stop putting the Fn key on the far left.
Major4Play @ Sep 9th 2008 7:00AM
Open minded about what exactly? Since when is the MBA a netbook ? With a 10 X price ?
Chris Martin's kid is called Apple what a shithead.
