Cagic debuts stylish new 8.4-inch digital photo frame

Still haven't found a digital photo frame that suits your decor? Then you may find Cagic's new offering here a bit more to your taste, with it boasting a simple but stylish design and some decent enough specs to back it up. That includes an 8.4-inch 800x600 touchscreen display, a mini USB port and, perhaps most notably, two separate SD card slots: one for storage and one to load photos (a 1GB card is included). At $180, however, it's not exactly the cheapest 8-inch frame around, but it is made of solid brushed aluminum and natural hardwood, and you can get it in your choice of three finishes, so that's a trade-off we're guessing some will be more than willing to accept.

This is nice and all... but it is missing the thing most people are holding out for: wifi and RSS reader. Why is this so difficult & expensive? Pretty frame and everything... but you missed something.

check out eStarling.com. They make an 8 inch with wifi and rss for 199.00.

No shit. It's baffling.

Meh. I find these things outrageously expensive compared to the price/quality of LCD monitors. Not that I'd stick a monitor on a coffee table or the wall for this purpose, but in comparison to monitors, it just seems like I should be able to get a decent rez 8-inch screen with a built-in card reader for much less than $100.

Still no WiFi?
Murphy Mac @ Sep 10th 2008 2:21PM
Frames lead the device pack when it comes to horrible interfaces. Give me a decent frame for $150 with a sensible interface and wifi + rss and every adult nerd in town will buy one for their parents so they can keep up with the flickr feed.
CraziestGadgets.com @ Sep 10th 2008 3:16PM
for $180 i can buy 50 regular frames and photos and hire some dude from craigslist to swap them out daily.
Jaem @ Sep 10th 2008 3:34PM
Sarcastic as that was, you make a good point...

Ugh, these things are becoming the new iPod docks. They are everywhere (I saw them for sale at the damn grocery store last night), they all do the same thing and they are all pretty much useless.
Uncle Johann @ Sep 10th 2008 10:12PM
This thing looks pretty. Non-geeks can't figure out most frames out there... yeah they're everywhere, but it's not meant for you... it's meant for your parents. I spent an hour trying to get a pandigital working for my parents, then more time troubleshooting over the phone. Easy = good if they pull it off. First one I've seen that's not crappy plastic

I don't know, if it is easy, I would forgo WiFi. I gave my mom a frame last year and I am sick of her calling me every time she wants to add pictures.
