CY-FI Bluetooth sports speaker, tiny Sigourney Weaver co-star
CY-FI just unwrapped its latest wireless speaker system for your bike. The CY-FI Bluetooth wireless sport speaker weighs just 4-ounces, supports hands-free and stereo Bluetooth profiles, and works for about 5.5-hours on battery when clipped to your bike or pretty much anything else. But by attaching it to a bicycle, Cy-Fi can call it a world's first Bluetooth sport speaker, which is nice. Unfortunately, the September 22nd launch with a $180 price tag is not.

It also appears to double as a golf driver head.
bartoron @ Sep 10th 2008 7:13AM
Aside from the price, that's actually a pretty cool idea. I've tried wearing headphones while riding my bike before, and it doesn't really work. The headphones are too big to wear them and the helmet at the same time.
bolezhinkov @ Sep 10th 2008 11:51AM
in montreal the cops will pull you over if they see you on a bike or skateboard wearing headphones. its kind of a piss off that I can't listen to "downtown" when Im looking at the pretty lights in the city night. but at the same time I hear about someone getting hit by cars while on bikes every week.
Wwhat @ Sep 10th 2008 6:47PM
I'm going to stock up on soda cans to hit idiots that use this in the head with, a bike is not an enclosed area and perhaps I don't want to hear your crappy music from crappy speakers.
Mile @ Sep 10th 2008 7:16AM
The Sigourney Weaver reference went way over my head.
Aaron @ Sep 10th 2008 7:37AM
Think Alien
Aaron @ Sep 10th 2008 7:37AM
Think Alien...
andrea @ Sep 10th 2008 7:34AM
Same here...
thedesolate1 @ Sep 10th 2008 8:32AM
It probably grows legs and crawls up your bike....
Blackstar @ Sep 10th 2008 11:51AM
Yeah, I'm lost on this one too and I know a lot about the "Alien" films. So... unless this is some strange reference to "Ghostbusters" or "Working Girl" or "Copy Cat"... the title just makes no sense to me at all. :P
Wwhat @ Sep 10th 2008 6:50PM
You don't see that those black striped parts and the design look a bit alien? Strange.
Blackstar @ Sep 10th 2008 8:37PM
Um... no. My black leather underwear looks more 'alien' than that. Oops, did I say that out loud?
Eric @ Sep 10th 2008 7:30AM
I'm sure that's plenty loud over traffic and wind noise.
And the sound quality easily blows away my headphones, right?
All that and you can annoy everyone around with "Eye of the Tiger" blasting you through your workout.
Sign me up!

If you've got carbon bars and WCS stuff you're a serious rider who doesn't want extra faff like this.
404 @ Sep 10th 2008 8:07AM
But if you're not a serious rider you could try hacking a dynamo onto the wheel that'll power it, if the consumption is low enough.
Battery life? What battery life?
Lucky @ Sep 10th 2008 8:04AM
Seems like they want to sell this to some serious riders. I consider myself a serious rider and I couldn't imagine putting this shit on my bike. The novelty would fade quickly if I ever managed to get past the price tag. That and the space it wants to take up is occupied by most people's cyclocomputer.
bill @ Sep 10th 2008 8:33AM
I thought that was a bike seat when i first saw the picture.
The most uncomfortable seat? Or the most comfortable? Hmmm....
Big Al @ Sep 10th 2008 10:01AM
Great, just what we need, more people on their phones in traffic... lol
gabe @ Sep 10th 2008 10:50AM
love that u can have a speaker on the bike but $180 is way too much - maybe $79
andy @ Sep 10th 2008 11:34AM
And how is this better than a boom box bungee-corded to my rear rack?
Craig @ Sep 10th 2008 12:11PM
So, the $180 for this thing, you can now pay extra to annoy everyone else on a group ride with your music.
Hellaphunt @ Sep 10th 2008 12:17PM
Very stupid idea.
scottso @ Sep 10th 2008 12:56PM
When I'm on the W&OD in the DC area I use my Shure earbuds attached to my ipod shuffle..right ear only and at low volume. That way I can hear passing riders on the left and traffic at crossings. I've considered an external speaker, but I think my current set up is perfect...I'll take my $180 and get some gear or use it to put towards a GPS cyclometer.
GJ @ Sep 10th 2008 5:06PM
So now while I am driving and talking on my cell phone at the same time, I can run over a bicyclist who is also talking on the cell phone? Did someone say "Bluetooth hood ornament?"
Wwhat @ Sep 10th 2008 6:53PM
You think cyclist don't use a cellphone now? They just steer with one hand.
I'm not sure if you live in an area with ANY cyclist if you make a statement like that.
Ink @ Sep 10th 2008 6:50PM
My nominee for "Absolutely the Worst Idea of the Year".
No serious cyclist would use this, and less experienced riders need to be able to hear what's going on around them even more.
This would only serve as an alarm, announcing "Get out of the way! I have no idea what I'm doing!!"
Richard @ Sep 10th 2008 9:44PM
Let's see,
If I go from Dura Ace to SRAM Red, Time carbon pedals, an SMP full carbon saddle and some old Helium wheels for tubulars, I might save enough weight to replace my (bike) computer with this POS.
I'll stick with the Plantronics 855 in one ear playing through Core Player on my Tilt (which is more than heavy enough to ride with).
gjp303 @ Sep 10th 2008 9:56PM
or you could lose your own weight dick. my bike weighs 30 pounds and i give a shit less, plus could easily beat you in a race
Ink @ Sep 12th 2008 8:18PM
nice
