On a 3.5 inch screen ANYTHING is finger friendly.
Brian, I hear your butt is finger friendly...
I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. Don't take offense. :-)

Failed troll has failed.
I want that bad boy. It makes the htc diamond look old.
Does it get better than this?
I am really curious about pricing.
To answer your question: NO, it doesent. (if the display is indeed x>3.4)
Kind of reminds me of the Meizu M8. I'm curious which one will be released first. The M8 should have a faster CPU though, and Meizu said that the delays were in parts caused by the high resolution... hard to get that smooth. Now HTC want to release a phone with the same resolution but a CPU that is even slower than the one Meizu initially wanted to build into the M8? Hm.
Beautiful. Alas, it is still FAIL without capacitive screen. When will HTC learn?

You had me at hello....HTC is killing the 2nd half of this year! They are not even in the top five?! Let's be fair and measure the number of phones sold throughout the world and not just the US! The US phone market is pitiful. We're always 6 months behind.
From the pictures, the screen size is larger than the iPhone minus the speaker and d-pad. The poster Mobiman mentioned only a volume button and a 3.5 jack. Where's the power button? No flash for camera? No d-pad?
Those are not considered deal breakers. But now that I know something is in the horizon, I'll wait for this or WM7. Sorry Touch Pro, there's a new taller and skinnier girl coming for Christmas!
That looks a like Throttle Launcher to me: http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/
My god....it's full of pixels
This phone is godly. Great processor and RAM!! Screen is perfect. HTC can now close shop and just make these. Really, there is nothing they can make after this except increase the RAM. WinMo 7 will eventually be on this.
That's it guys, phone technology is over. This is the last phone.
WM7 will be on a phone that LOOKS LIKE this, not this one.
This phone will run the super slow WM6.1, where you flick the screen, then wait for the TouchFLO animation. Everyone will compare it to the fast and fluid iPhone, where the screen moves as if glued to your finger.
IMO, this phone is a waste on WM6.1. They should have waited for the magnum monster that is WM7.... imagine a phone like this, powered with nVidia's Tegra.
^^^^^^^^^ It's thoughts like these that make me take a step back and reconsider jumping onto the Android bandwagon.
Yeah, and that's what we thought the Tilt would be... until we Tilt users learned that, no matter what device you put it on, Windows Mobile is a sluggish, laggy, antiquated POS.
Give me this with Android and I'm sold.
No one mentioned the "1" at the top bar next to "3G".. this is part of Windows Mobile's support for multi-line SIM's - No one in america uses this but in other countries you can get a SIM with 2 different accounts on it.. choose which line to use for outgoing calls etc.
Probably just didn't turn that feature off in the dev version shown..
This a WINMO app called Throttle Launcher. You can install it on your WINMO 5 or 6 device now if you like. http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/
Err, the 1 at the top of the screen next to the 3G (note the top of the screen, not the top of the today panel) has nothing to do with throttle launcher, except if throttle launcher has an interface for multi-line sim support..
a multi-sim would be great if it supported multi band like gsm and cdma together? if i go snowboarding where reception is non-existent for t-mobile or att i can pop in a sprint or verizon pre-paid sim and get excellent reception at mammoth.
sign me up!
I didn't get long to play with the device when I saw it, for obvious reasons.
I can tell you it is an impressive screen, the Diamond and Diamond Pro screens are excellent and look great - this is better. Blows the iPhone screen away, the Diamond screens do this already (just smaller).
It has a good weight to it, doesn't feel cheap.
The screen was very responsive, comparible to the latest ROMs out for the Diamond/Diamond Pro that've been tweaked over at XDA Developers (which are a "huge difference" compared to stock ROMs).
As I said before, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
I asked it's name and I thought the responce was HTC Black Brier, however, the "Brier" part I'm not 100% on as she turned away when she said it.
YOU ARE MY HERO!
What's the screen size by the way?
The screen is gorgeous. It's a bit bigger than iPhone. But the on-screen keyboard is still too small to use finger to type. Still have to use a stylus to type.
Give it a slide out keyboard and I'm SOLD
I got my hands on one of these for a minute from a guy who works for HTC who has been testing it out for a couple months. It was pretty amazing, great accelerometer and beautiful screen. The guy said it might not even get released.
is there any chance you could convince him to suggest it to their engineering team to switch to a different processor ie nvidia axp/tegra? that's if it's true what you're saying. if it's not coming out could it be because it's a winmobile 7 device? anyhow it still needs a nvidia axp to do the job and make it smooth... j/k
I am soooo buying this.....I am buying everything!
If only they could have it for t-mobile and an actually somewhat affordable price. [I don't have 800 lying around!]
damnit HTC!
I was all set to get a Touch Pro when they come out for Sprint in October- and then they release something like this that will make me want to wait a bit long to see when it will come to Sprint...
512mb onboard and SD slot, probably the 4gb like the Diamond. Bring some Iphonesque storage, then you have a real competitor. WM sux too.
I they can get the on screen keyboard right, this phone has some potential. That's one of he things Apple has done better than anyone else when it comes to touch screen only phones. Otherwise looks good!
Looks like it'll be a 1st 1/4 2009 release running win mo 7 based on ce 6... Doesn't win mo 7 support a capacitive screen? Hopefully it'll support sd slots.
fukin nice shit.. =O
I'm sitting here, looking down at my HTC Touch, then looking at the pictures for this thing, and I feel like I need to go out and buy a Porsche to compensate for something.
Give me this phone or one with the same general specs but with Android, and I can cancel plans of buying a 32GB iPod Touch! Of course, expansion options up to 16GB Micro-SD would completely seal the deal. The 4GB my Touch supports just doesn't cut it for carrying significant music & video.
Aspect Ratio is 15:9, not 16:9.
Here are full specs: http://htchd.com/news/bad-news-for-us-subscribers-htc-hd-tri-band-only-12-09-08/
Looks like a decent replacement for iPhone, which has lots of security issues and holes by the way.
Another day, another HTC prototype that will never hit mainstream.
*goes back to fiddling with his 3G iPhone*
some of you people shouldnt be allowed on the internet with your pointless and stupid comments.
the single greatest feature that sets the HTC Touch HD apart from the rest of the touchscreen smartphone family is the fact that the display has a super high resolution display, numbering 800 pixels by 480 pixels. That gives you crisper text, prettier menus, and some great multimedia experiences.
Rounding out the specs are a 528MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 5 megapixel camera, GPS, and HSDPA. No word on price -- this phone isn't even official yet -- but we hear that it'll launch in time for Christmas.
You cannot Deny HTC's comfort in monopolizing the touchscreen windows smartphone era.

Definitly iphone's only real competitor and the only question i have is the network it will be using..
I'm completely serious, this phone’s name as it is, should be rebranded as iKiller. It beats the iPhone in every category even screen size. The holy grail screen size is really between 3.6 – 4.0 . And not to mention one of the iPhones biggest flaws, its only a single tasking OS. This phone is multitasking, so you can have other programs running the background. You don’t have to stop one program just to use another. Just the name alone marketed as iKiller will make everybody want one even though the real reason will be its iPhone killing feature set.
Now, if HTC will go one step further like it did with the Touch. Add a slide out querty keyboard and dual microSDHC slots. They can give it the Pro suffix.
Better Yet, reband the HTC Touch HD Pro as the iAnnihilator.
HTC Touch HD – rebranded as - iKiller
HTC Touch HD Pro – rebranded as - iAnnihilator
Oh, and make sure it’s also has U.S.A. compatible frequencies.
“GAME OVER”
