T-Mobile to offer Android handset "soon," Reuters reports

It's not exactly a huge surprise, but Reuters is now reporting that T-Mobile will start selling a "mobile phone based on Google Inc's Android software" (otherwise known to everyone else as the HTC Dream) "within weeks," citing people familiar with the matter. The official announcement will apparently happen in New York City this month, with two sources further pegging the date for the announcement down to September 23rd, which mostly lines up with the details The New York Times reported last month. Buckle up, folks. Things are about to get interesting.

Well i work for t-mobile and we did have a meeting today and i talked to one of the hire up managers an he said we will be getting it def in October but he can not tell details , but the funny thing is he can't tell nothing about ANY OF OUR UPCOMING phones lol which is pretty stupid but hey wish i could share more info...but believe me i'm spreading the word about the G1 like a fire in California to customers who ask for the iphone and in general...
Although I like the design of my iPhone a lot better, I would much prefer a linux powered Android OS device. Hopefully they'll come to at&t soon so I have that option as well.
I love how everyone talks like they've seen the thing in person, held it in their hand and know what it under the hood.
For the record, I work for T-Mobile and I work on the floor below HTC. They've kept everything SO mum on this thing, that they didn't even do any real testing at the USA office (but I'm not going to say where they did either).
Case in point- I really wanted a Motorola "Q" or a Samsung "Blackjack" back when those devices were coming out. And then I was able to hold the HTC "Dash", and even without turning on the unit I knew I didn't care for the "Q" or the "Blackjack" because of the way the Dash felt in my hand. Going strictly off of photos, the "Q" may have looked better- but until you hold this phone in your hand and see what it;s like carrying it in your pocket (I have yet to either so this challenge is open) your opinion isn't really worth much to me at all.
Oh BTW- it most assuredly is 3g. And the 3g network will be as big, or bigger- and faster than your iProvider. And it's made by HTC, so you won't be screwed over because the manufacturer chose to save a few bucks on cheaper components.
Soon? I see they're taking classes from the Charlie Ergen school of
soon.
Dish Network executives guide you through an intensive 16 week course
where you'll learn exactly what soon is in Charlie's World and how you
can use that to inform Wall Street analysts, the media, and
subscribers alike as to just how soon they expect fantastic new
products that will change all our lives.
Classes forming soon
I know that if I buy this HTC... I'll be let down by sluggish response and crap 'peripheral' hardware i.e. camera, network speeds, A2DP quality etc. When is SonyEricsson releasing an Android Phone?
Will we ever be able to unlock this phone? Use it with AT&T? Or will I have to switch providers?
Not sure about anyone else, but I have a Motorola ROKR E6 linux phone, and the lack of QWERTY with a tiny virtual keyboard (OK, so I'm getting older!) is a bit difficult at times. When you've taken out the hardware numeric buttons, GMaps suddenly becomes maddenly impossible to use! (WTF Google? I love ya an' all, but that's a SERIOUS blunder).
So, anyone else having wet dreams for an Android powered HTC s740?
