Vodafone, O2 to launch the XPERIA X1 in UK and Germany
Sony Ericsson finally came clean with that September 30 launch date for the XPERIA X1 this morning, and now the carrier situation is starting to resolve itself -- as previously hinted, Vodafone will launch the sleek WinMo slider in the UK, and both Voda and O2 will have it in Germany. O2 UK hasn't confirmed anything yet, and we still haven't heard from any carriers in the third launch country of Sweden, but we'll keep you posted over on Engadget Mobile as soon as we hear anything.

N00b! No ones wins first time! :D
There were lots of reports about a month ago that 3 UK would also be picking up the X1 for an October release.
American carriers should embrace this godly phone
I just noticed the new change to the forums with Low Ranked comments dimmed out. Has it occurred to anyone here at Engadget that it might be a good idea to fix the outstanding problems with the forums before adding new features?
I was JUST about to say that!
Fix the lag and disappearing comments, the broken reply button, the fact that in any one browse to a page half the comments won't show up and the lack of remembering me and even remembering to go to the "returning" page before adding something that makes it HARDER to read comments.
This thing isn't going to be successfull unless they put a 2.0 MP camera in it, remove the cut and paste option and call it the iPeria
Ahahahahahahahahaha! Cutting and pasting is so weak.
Sad bad true!
I can already see the iPeria fanboys bashing anything that was released after that.
STFU
don't be so angry chicken jeeeeze
people buy unlocked handsets in scandinavia, we´ll all have it =)
i am excited to see if is the thing that can get me off the jesus-phone.
Yes, Sony Ericsson is one the phone, but HTC made it......
From all reports this phone is pretty good. If I got it, i would still flash upgrade it with TouchPro's interface. XDA guys?....
HTC built it but it's a Sony Ericsson design.
hopefully HTC can start making iphones for apple. I am still very very upset about the crack on my case.
You can't expect Apple to use the highest-quality materials when they're offering the iPhone for such a low-low-low price. How do you know HTC phones don't crack?
Yeah? So what? And Apple don't make a single one of their own products yet people don't constantly refer to the tiny, child-employing Chinese companies that do - then act like the former is just a customer of the latter. SE designed it. Who gives a toss if they chose to sub-contract the manufacturing?
Engadget should also display some special love for the Highest Ranked comments. Something reflecting their esteemed peer-reviewed status. Maybe scrolling into the distance in 3D - Star Wars style...
LondonConsultant: perhaps something more like this: http://wwlr.org/comments/
Doesn't HTC convert CO2 to O also? It should. Every breath would be better.
Jk...
I dare not reduces myself to fanboism.
Oh, forgot to mention how gorgeous this phone is.
"It's gorgeous!"
Ok, I feel better now.
Exactly like that! very nice!
@huh
Good stuff :-) But what about the 3D scrolling into the distance...

Steve Job will play his dirtiest tricks to keep Xperia away. He must be trembling now.
Why the hell do the phone makers do this? I have 13 months left on my Orange contract and I don't want to have to write a sodding great cheque to get the phone I've been waiting for for six months (much more than the mid-contract upgrade fee before anyone points it out). Why can't they just give it to all carriers, and, oh I don't know, sell more of the things?
YES, my vodafone contract is just at the 18th month mark when im due for an upgrade and renewal, plus i actually have cash for once, ill talk to old vodafone to see what type of contract i can get it on, how much it will cost me a month, threaten to leave them if they don't give me the contract i want, they give in (they always do, my dad did it barely a day ago) probably still have to pay an extortionate amount of money for it
but hell, it'll be worth it just to go up to the apple fanboys and say "thats right, this phone is better and i didnt even have to sell my soul to steve jobs for it"
Revolutionary
cool phone. ugly hands. and yes, i have a hand fetish. ^^
Bah. If Vodafone are the only UK suppliers, the Xperia is coming off my list.
Such a shame T-Mobile or O2 couldn't get it (although there is still hope with O2)
I waited a long time for this phone and would have plumped down a fair bit of cash for it, thing is, it looked cool 10 months ago.
I also dont trust Win Mo6.1 as far as I could throw a tiger.
All the HTC devices using the touch flow are clunky as hell, I know its WinMo's fault and not HTC. Like look at any of the vids on youtube of the touch diamond and its a joke. They swipe and about a scond later the phone responds, and when it does the animation is jerky.
If I am wrong then please someone post a link to a video where its all smooth........
Anyway I have no faith that the xperia wont be just the same, just with a SE interface.
Doh! I've just taken delivery of my XDA Ignito aka Touch Diamond. Should I have waited? Am I going to be sorry? Ahhhhhgggggggrrrrrrrr!!!! Too many toys!
Nice phone. Ugly hand :)
