Cythbot Guitar Hero robot uncomfortably demonstrated on video
Not that we haven't seen robotic Guitar Hero masters before, but Cyth Systems' egotistically named Cythbot is just a full cut above the rest. Boasting some of the most advanced, high-dollar equipment known to mankind (okay, so maybe that's a stretch, but just barely), the creation uses a highly sophisticated viewing method to determine which notes to hit, and it can even decide whether slamming the whammy bar is a good idea or not. Too bad you'll be entirely too distracted by the introverted hosts to even notice how awesome this thing is, but the video's in the read link if you care to try.

It's good to know that solving the world's energy problems is probably about a year farther away because of wasted genius.
Blackstar @ Sep 12th 2008 11:20AM
Not only that, but every time I see things like this the more and more I'm convinced the world of "Wall-E" is more prophetic than we could possibly imagine.
Kneel B4 Zurg! @ Sep 12th 2008 12:24PM
That will never happen like, there will never be world peace, do to the fact mankind is too fragile and easy to influence and control.
Energy solving? LOL in NYC alone building leave lights running 24 seven within certain offices 24/7 for security reasons. I know mine does. and its just once tiny company out of millions.
Florescent lighting F T w...? nahh that doesnt sound right...
O.P. @ Sep 12th 2008 11:06AM

Ricksta @ Sep 12th 2008 10:03AM
Let me sum up the video for everyone.
Host: "Tell me about this system"
Goofy young engineer: "Ummm blah blah Ummmmmmmm blah blah blah Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm". Repeated for 3 minutes...
He seriously said "Um" every few seconds.
From My Cube @ Sep 12th 2008 10:37AM
thats why hes an engineer and not a spokesperson
JB @ Sep 12th 2008 10:39AM
Obama does that too, so what, if your a genius your a genius ...
burriot_avatar @ Sep 12th 2008 10:42AM
Ummm... I think you mean "If you're a genius you're a genius" Uhhhhhhhh ummmmmmmmmm..................
Idlemind @ Sep 12th 2008 10:58AM
I got bored and counted... First part alone he said "UHHH" 70 times.....
JimReaper @ Sep 12th 2008 12:22PM
If you're right its very sad that the world's geniuses are wasting their time on this pointless crap.
Blake Dayton @ Sep 12th 2008 10:07AM
Wooo for 80/20 rack!
Stan G. @ Sep 12th 2008 10:46AM
He said "uhh" or "ummm" over 82 times...I tried to count the total amount but I can't put myself through that kind of torture any more. Worst presenter ever.
Idlemind @ Sep 12th 2008 10:59AM
I tried to count also... I got up to 70 in the first part.. but I couldnt hang around for the second part...

Since when did it become the 'thing to do' to make machines to do skill games for us. Sure, its impressive, the time and effort and brainpower behind building this thing, dont get me wrong. But something is lost when machines are now playing all the things that human hands are suppsoed to do. The robot apocolypse is drawing nearer with every guitar bot! Soon they will replace Kiss and Metalica with robots, if they havent already done so. They are pretty old and they do rock pretty hard still. 40 years in the future machines will play sports for us, and well all laugh and enjoy it, and take credit for it. No problem, but something is lost there.... a little bit of our humanity just flew away.
Ricksta @ Sep 12th 2008 12:27PM

A program that challenges kids to create robots that play a different game each year with robots. Kids learn through competition and the United States gets a backfill of smart people. It's been "the thing to do" since 1992 when the program started.
I need one of those Conan O'brien "ASS" stamps for this guy above me.
kphitman13 @ Sep 12th 2008 11:00AM
Your just jealous because you dont know how to do it yourself. If you could, youd build a machine that would play your life for you, but you cant. So when some young genious makes a great machine, done knock it and pretend its not cool. Uhhh uhhh uhh, i think thats what you hear in your head.
absinthe party @ Sep 12th 2008 11:21AM
Nice back-to-back contradiction. Bipolar much?

Yeah, but can it play Crysis?
Clint @ Sep 12th 2008 11:51AM
I really don't care if he's a genius or not, if he isn't going to present his product fully and professionally, then how is he expected to gain investors to help grow the company? Presenting the product is just ask important as manufacturing the product, or that's what they are teaching us in school...
BigManWalking @ Sep 12th 2008 12:16PM
Clearly an engineer. Here's a better version on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY3aMpkWBH8
Cam @ Sep 12th 2008 12:22PM
Obviously impressive, but what, they couldn't find a yellow light for their light tower up top?
"This is, uh, a wii remote. It connect to the system wireless.......ly"
slab @ Sep 12th 2008 12:58PM
Neat. I actually got to see this demonstration in person-- the video was taken at the NIWeek '08 conference last month. The robot was good enough to hold its own against basic/medium players, at least (It beat me.)
BuiltByBen @ Sep 12th 2008 1:00PM
Well he sure managed to suck all the fun out of a guitar hero playing robot in that video
water.and.sand @ Sep 12th 2008 1:38PM
Now make one that plays a real guitar.

Useless if it can't activate star power.
I predict that within fifty years we will have a robot capable of beating Kasparov at Guitar Hero.
anonymous @ Sep 12th 2008 6:47PM
It activates star power immediately by nature of being vertical
Jan Van der laan @ Sep 12th 2008 2:58PM
Which one of you is the robot made to bog here?

StalematE @ Sep 12th 2008 7:08PM

~Trail @ Sep 13th 2008 10:27AM
I was considering counting how many times he said "uhhhh" but got annoyed with listening to him after the first 30 seconds.
Anyone have a count?
