We've waited ages for a
real-deal pico projector
from Toshiba (or anyone
reputable, quite frankly), and it's looking all the more likely that we'll be absolutely bombarded with them come CES 2009. At any rate, Toshiba is apparently close to putting the finishing touches on its LED Pico Projector, which weighs in at 100-grams and measures 10- x 4.5- x 1.7-centimeters in size. Outside of that, specifications are few and far between, but you can catch a video of its powers in the link below.
[Thanks, Jan]

Dear gadget-makers,
As it seems, this is the final stage of development of the ultimate gadget. Please place this, a cellphone, a calculator, a color screen, and GPS into a wristwatch, and you will dominate the world. Also, I will buy two.

Now someone needs to come out with a pico screen so you can actually use it.
Unless, of course, you stay close to the walls.

Next evolution of the product will be femto projector.

Housekeeper with the vacuumer is coming!
thehack2002 @ Sep 12th 2008 3:44PM
I am waiting until the yocto projector

the only specs I could find was that it could project up to a 60 inch screen, that it would cost 299€ and its brightness is 10 lumens... but what I would like to know is this:
how is it powered(battery?, usb?, own powercable?) how does it connect to mobile phone/neotebook? what's the resolution - contrast and etc.
Viaono @ Sep 12th 2008 3:05PM
See that BATT on the top center?
POV @ Sep 12th 2008 3:06PM
I can see the future, endless hours of projecting all sorts of material in class on the walls. Excellent. ;-)

Looks like the unholy union between a braun shaver and a flask... or maybe a zippo lighter.
Patrick @ Sep 12th 2008 4:02PM
That's a pencil sharpener. You know, the type you take to school with you and you have to turn the pencil manually and you have to make sure you press it against the blade in there or it doesn't get sharp.

Way to beat Maglite! Know you can watch Bonanza while finding your way back home.

*Now
Yes indeed... Thanks
Brad @ Sep 12th 2008 4:16PM
10 lumens? They're obviously not designing this for daytime usage...
Pentagon @ Sep 12th 2008 5:04PM
This one's better: http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/02/microvision-to-launch-pocket-sized-projector-at-ces-2008/
The Microvision one is brighter and smaller, and you don't have to manually focus it everytime you move, unlike the Toshiba/TI version.
matt @ Sep 12th 2008 9:27PM
yeah, i want the laser based one though. the led ones are ho-hum. lasers are way way brighter and you don't have to focus them like pentagon pointed out above
PTK @ Sep 12th 2008 10:35PM
Combine this with a netbook and have a sweet little projecting package.
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2008 11:40PM
"Let's make it oval, that way it'll never have a straight non-wobbling picture when you put it down!"

I get it now, by making the comments slow to appear people hit refresh 10 times and they have 10 times as many hits so alexa tell the advertisers engadget is so immensely popular.
or it could be all the refreshes that cause the comments to become slow because the system gets overloaded.
Excuse my off-topic musings.

I posted my video of the Toshiba pocket projector, interviewing the product manager at: http://techvideoblog.com/ifa/toshiba-pocket-led-projector-at-ifa-2008/

I guess I don't really get all of this pocket projector stuff. I mean if your going to be giving some kind of a presentation don't people generally gather in someplace where there is a projector, tv or some other kind of display already present? Unless your some sort of gumshoe salesman trying to unload your wares in some sort of a public venue with power point or youtube viddies.. err
