HTC Touch 3G revealed
HTC just can't stop the leakage. That Touch HD page was wild enough, but under the "Product Tour" section there's even more magic: instead of a Touch HD Product Tour, as the title would suggest, there's a colorful cadre of the unannounced phone referred to as the Touch 3G. Sporting a slightly refined design and, well, 3G, there's literally nothing else we know about the device. It does seem slightly different than the budget-friendly, EDGE-strapped Opal, but it's all hearsay until HTC actually announces these puppies.
Update: Wow. Just when you though HTC was out of the woods, our friendly neighborhood tipsters have tracked down the full product page for the Touch 3G. Peep the new read link for every spec, dimension and salty tear direct from HTC. Highlights include a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, Europe-friendly HSDPA, 3.2 megapixel camera and 14.5mm of thickness. Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS and 802.11g WiFi all make an appearance as well.
[Thanks, Ben]

Sptint's Touch is already 3G (EV-DO rev A). So not sure...maybe this is gsm 3g?
JAmerican @ Sep 15th 2008 10:27AM
Yes, the H refers to HSDPA which is 3.5G in the GSM band I believe.
OneLove @ Sep 15th 2008 10:58AM

bob sakamano @ Sep 15th 2008 10:14AM
also, kind of racist that the black guys name is jerome
GON @ Sep 15th 2008 10:19AM
??? What are you talking about?
bob sakamano @ Sep 15th 2008 10:21AM
the first phone... the guys name is jerome in the pic... a stereotypical name for an afro-american male
Unknown @ Sep 15th 2008 10:25AM
maybe because that is his name, they didnt just make it up
Serial 8-Ball Mouse @ Sep 15th 2008 10:43AM
@Unknown
Yeah. Because advertisers would never change someone's name in a promotional picture. They always go with the model's real name.
::eye roll::
Alex Padilla @ Sep 15th 2008 10:48AM
Nothing stereotypical about it. What would you name him? Kenneth Parcel, maybe?
CraigJ @ Sep 15th 2008 10:48AM
People who see racism everywhere tend to be the most racist among us.
bob sakamano @ Sep 15th 2008 10:53AM
No, I'd call him Alex Padilla !

The analog time doesn't match the digital time
bugmat @ Sep 15th 2008 11:26PM
Just like on my PC too whenever i adjust the date and time manually to tomorrow's date ;)
GON @ Sep 15th 2008 10:16AM
Beautiful.
kccboy2004 @ Sep 15th 2008 10:31AM
Just watch apple's spin doctor's and fanbois start working at talking their way out of this one !
CraigJ @ Sep 15th 2008 2:13PM
What's worse? A fanboy, or a rabid anti-fanboy?
Anyway, I have the original iPhone, which I prefer to the 3G from a design perspective. This is the fist device I've seen that interests me from a design point of view since the iPhone. This new phone is gorgeous. Here's to hoping it functions as good as it looks. I'd be a lot more interested in seeing this device running android than WinMo though...
Gus @ Sep 15th 2008 10:21AM
omg me likey very muchy
Ike Turner @ Sep 15th 2008 10:22AM
Yeah that's actualy a GSM Touch 3G with a new TouchFlo2D (mimicks the TouchFlo3D of the Diamond/Pro/HD) UI
Alan Strangis @ Sep 15th 2008 12:18PM
I gotta say I like the 2D TouchFlo. Keeping 2D might also let it run on the 400Mhz HTC Touch CDMA version... I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled at XDA-developers, as Mobile Shell is close, but not quite the same. :D
ZSX @ Sep 15th 2008 6:11PM
TouchFlo2D is already available from xda-devs as a separate cab file. It looks beautiful and is very slick on my HTC Trinity.
GON @ Sep 15th 2008 10:25AM
Also, does anyone else think they look a little like Zunes? They're real nice.
Billy Gun @ Sep 15th 2008 10:38AM
Please make this cheap!
Fastman @ Sep 15th 2008 10:38AM
Why bother releasing this model? Its just a lame version of the Touch HD!
Alan Strangis @ Sep 15th 2008 12:13PM
Only if you think the Touch HD is the pinnacle of mobile phones. Sure the HD has a gorgeous screen, but it's the same physical size as an iPhone, which I found both too big and found a pain in the ass for 1 handed navigation.
It's easy to hit the upper right corner of the screen with your thumb on the original Touch, and I image that it'll be about the same on this, though the spread from the top of the screen to the D-pad looks to be a bit too much, though it IS narrower, which might help.
I'm also betting that this will be a lot cheaper than the Touch HD, and sales wise, the original Touch and the Palm Centro have shown there's a real market for devices in this space. Coupling that with slightly pared down version of the Diamond's TouchFlo is an awesome move on HTCs part.
(though I'll checking xda-developers to see how the new interface runs on

Don Corleone @ Sep 15th 2008 10:54AM
Nice looking phone. My iPhone envies the camera and video recording.
ahdok @ Sep 15th 2008 10:59AM
Damnit guys! - the primary thing I want in a phone is for it to be really tiny, so it doesn't annoy me when I carry it around.
All these newfangled superphones are HUGE.
Rogue_Genius @ Sep 15th 2008 11:08AM
Wait, you call these dimensions HUGE?
102 mm X 53.6 mm X 14.5 mm
(4.016 inches X 2.110 inches X 0.571 inches)
Wow, you must be quite popular with the ladies - _ -
I kid, I kid!
telepheedian @ Sep 15th 2008 11:33AM
In person, the phone is actually pretty small, the pictures make it look huge.
Tony @ Sep 15th 2008 11:44AM
Then don't buy a smart phone.
Alex @ Sep 15th 2008 6:23PM
Whereas I've been waiting since the Universal for another PDAphone that's got more than 320x240 pixels. I'm fed up of all these QVGA phones - I want another proper VGA one!
Jess @ Sep 15th 2008 11:02AM
Looks like its due out on the 10th November in the UK : http://www.devicewire.co.uk/htc-touch-3g

azz0r @ Sep 15th 2008 11:04AM
When are all these HTC Touch phones making it over to the UK?
azz0r @ Sep 15th 2008 11:04AM
I'm thinking of getting the HTC Diomand on Orange for £30 a month.
Hows the phone? Am I better waiting a few months for something like this to finally come over?
HTC-D does GPS/3G so?
Josh @ Sep 15th 2008 11:10AM
This is one of the most beautiful phones I've seen.
Jonathan @ Sep 15th 2008 2:44PM
It looks like a toy.
