Looks like the 70s are back -- Altec Lansing just
shifted its entire branding to black / brown, and now Logitech's going with a similar retro look on two new Pure-Fi docks and the Z-5 speakers. The battery-powered Pure-Fi Express Plus portable system features an omnidirectional sound field that's supposed to provide stereo sound in all directions, while the tabletop Pure-Fi Anytime alarm clock (pictured) features motion-activated backlit controls -- including wave-to-snooze, which sounds incredibly dangerous. Both docks will retail for $100 when they hit in October. The X-5 speakers are USB-powered computer speakers enhanced with the same omnidirectional sound tech in the Pure-Fi Express Plus, they'll be out later this month for $100 as well. Pics of the Pure-Fi Express Plus and the Z-5s after the break.

any speaker which accept normal speaker jack will be able to use ipod. and if ipod is designed only a 'certain' speaker can be played on, don't buy that ipod.

That was the best sales phrase of the year! :oD

I think they need to start letting us know if the units will charge this generation of devices. The pinout change on current iPods has rendered me unable to use my Altec Lansing iM600 as a dock or charging station.

It's insanely ugly

It is, but I love that remote form-factor. Probably because I don't have any.

One of these days they'll have A2DP so I can leave my phone in the other room without having to plug it into my bedside radio.

I wonder if they will have a pretend pair of speaker drivers, like the old m50 dock???
Sorry, "sound pressure drivers".

The best part is they included the Helio Sequence album on there. So good.

ya, pretty ugly. and the digital clock is a little too retro a little too soon. Strangely, it uses the same retro LEDs at the Altec Lansing units, which are easily as ugly. It's pretty sad when you like they were designing 2 years ago better than the current products. Sigh...

Did any of the materials state if they are shielded or not so if you have your iphone on the dock, it won't constantly buzz? Also, what about when you get phone calls? Does it go through the speakers or ?
