Let's be honest here -- there's precisely
two three things you still need to know about the
BlackBerry Storm. Launch date, price and whether it'll play Doom. Sadly, we're no closer to helping you on those last two, but the datasheet you see above does give us a general idea of when we'll see this puppy in stores. Obviously looking to get this out before the holiday rush, it looks as if the carrier will be making things official sometime between September 22nd and October 1st, and that little "eligible for Annual Upgrade (by 11/1/08)" bit gives us hope for a November 1st release. In case you were wishing for the impossible, Verizon gets all red-text up in here with a note that this thing will not, come hell or high water, be sold sans an e-mail / data package. Interestingly, the Boy Genius has asserted that VZW is playing the fiddle by loosing all these "
leaks" on the unsuspecting public. We're not very confident of that being true, but it's decent fodder for discussion if nothing else.

i'm assuming since it's not out, no one has unlocked it (if it is locked). but, does any one know if it can be used on other cdma networks? ie, we use bell up here in canada, but the thunder is gsm roger's only, would verizon's storm work on a bell plan?
my wife works for bell. they're definitely getting it. hope it's soon...
why does it take all companies 2302 years and 2301 years of leaked info to get a phone to the market. just do it already
because the world does not revolve around you.
There are a couple of things that need to happen when a phone launches.
1st. It has to be ready for market use, testing and bug fixes (even so, its people, again, like you, who will be the first to bitch about the bugs)
2. Time of launch: sending a phone out, such as this one, needs to hit during a buying season to snag as many sales as possible. Its very possible in the agreement RIM has with Verizon that they have to sell X amount of units to keep the exclusive agreements.
3. Marketing, VZW wants the world to know what it has and why you should buy it. This cant happen until after the phone has been approved for sale, thus BGR's idea that these "leaks" are only fuel to the fire and easy PR
Verizon just announce this phone a couple days ago... You heard about it through blog sites and rumors so don't bitch about them not releasing a phone they haven't even announced yet.
Let the onslaught of iPhone loving comments and Verizon is the devil comments begin!
$29.99 for unlimited data? Is that Verizon's normal charge? For some reason I though it was $49.99.....
If you buy a BB, yes, you pay 29.99
Yeah, I remember paying $45 for my Moto Q before I switched to AT&T?
VZW has a Blackberry data plan for $29.99, but if you use Blackberry Enterprise Server (for work email) it jumps to $44.99.
Not true. They set up a 29.99 plan for all smartphones/PDA's/Blackberry's this year. The old price was 44.99. Now the $45 includes tethering.
What is that 49 dls charge? is it the value of the phone with the 2 yr contract, or the activation fee?
is this thing going to play music?
dollars now = dls? a simple $ would do, eh?
I think they mean that any current customer with a current $49+ monthly account is a target customer, so they'll focus on persuading them to upgrade. That was just my interpretation though.
Crap my contracts up and I can't believe I have to wait until Nov 1st to get a phone worth buying...
there's usually a period at the beginning of a contract where you can cancel with no cancellation fees, maybe a month or two. also, if you just start a new plan (assuming you already have verizon) and keep using your old phone you should be eligible for the discounted price of the phone when it comes out.
Yeah I can stay out of contract just going to be paying the same rate. I'm just mad at the fact that this is the first time that my contract is up for renewal and there's no phones worth buying. Plus T-Mobile, Sprint and ATT coverage sucks out here so I'm stuck with Verizon...
not sure why they would leak this on purpose... most people would probably never hear about it.
This is madness, the obvious time to release a BlackBerry is between June and August. They're right in their prime!!
the obvious time, eh? you and your speculations must have worked for lehman brothers
Yeah thats right Bob, me and speculation had offices next to each other.
I think bob didn't get the blackBERRY reference...
Just in case anyone didn't get my reference... Blackberry's are a fruit (also) that is usually ripe in the summer months.
The VZW site is back up again.

I could be wrong here but i believe that Verizon charges 30.00 in addition to a 79.99 or greater voice plan to add unlimited BB service. It's 45.00 with "non-compatible" plan.
I'm dying for this phone but the touch keyboard scares me a little. Will have to see when it comes out.
It's $29.99 for BIS any on any voice plan.
Question: Suppose I picked up a new VZW phone back in April and wanted to now get the Storm. Would VZW give me a promotional price for it? Or is the promotion only for new 2-year contracts? Help a newbie out here!
considering it's verizon....you'll get bent over full msrp for the phone. probably 700 dollars. I don't expect this phone to hit verizon for less than $399 with a 2 year contract. Verizon has a history of giving their customers the finger when it comes to "world phones"
The price will be around $200 with 2 year contract to compete with the iPhone.
I love blackberry hardware my main question would be, Does this phone
employ a MULTI-TOUCH touch screen or just the standard touch screen
most other phones have?
Neither. It doesn't have the iphone's multi touch but it claims to have a different touch screen than regular. They call it a click screen which should better imitate a real keayboard. I guess that will be the make or break.
I can tell this is fake because it doesn't even have McCain's initials, let alone his signature.
Stupid question, can Verizon web browsers load web pages that include FLASH?
The McCain/Blackberry remark had to do with legislature, not making the phone. If anything it was just a poor choice of words.
this phone is supposed to use a browser based off the sdk that made the iphone one, so one can only hope it will be able to hit up web pages like a champ, as for flash .... thats really up to RIM and adobe and how much money will be involved.
i am looking forward to this thing, ive been on my razor v3m for a looong time, and hell it does more than iphone, i use it for turn by turn navigation almost every day at work.
So what would a basic voice and data plan cost for this new blackberry? About 70 dollars a month with texting?
I love blackberry's, but not into the whole touch screen movement, so I'll stick w/ my 8830. It's awesome that they're taking the plunge, tho (RIM that is)
