Canon's PowerShot SD990 IS and SD880 IS for 'trendsetting techies' -- right
Finishing off Canon's new gear launches today are the PowerShot SD990 IS and SD880 IS Digital Elph series of cameras. Both start with optical image stabilization and Canon's new DIGIC 4 image processor. The $400 SD990 IS then sprinkles in a 14.7 megapixel sensor, 3.7x optical zoom, and 2.5-inch LCD while the $300 SD880 IS drops the sensor to 10 megapixels while boosting the LCD and Zoom a bit to 3-inches and 4x, respectively. Both should land for retail sometime in October.

now that you can shove 14 MP into a camera why don't you make it last longer.
the Olympus shock/water proof cameras are so much better at what a point and shoot is meant for
And now that SD has become the world standard why doesn't olympus move to using SD cards.
I've been waiting for these new pocketable powershots... but am SO disappointed that they don't have HD video capabilities. Except for the DigicIV (over my DigicIII), there's no point for me to upgrade. Guess I'll have to wait for the next camera line 'refresh' (?spring) unless Nikon comes out with something similar with HD video...
PIXEL BLOAT?
I've been used to snapping with my 7 MP (SD550) Canon Powershot, but recently went back to take a look at my old Canon 4 MP (S400) powershot pictures. THEY APPEAR WAY SHARPER!!!
Yes, my 4 MP photos look BETTER than my 7 MP photos, both powershots, Canon Elphs.
I remember having that reaction when I first started using my new 7 MP camera, I was a bit disappointed. It's the pixel count / sensor size issue.
The above posters are right, I'd MUCH rather longer zoom, Hi Def video over more megapixels.
Whats up with the flash size. Can't help but think Canon is thinking of upgrading on the SD880 flash in the near future. Looks like the flash isn't capable of reaching the said range? I currently have the SD870 and it is great and am thinking about getting the SD880. I just bought it and can upgrade for $30 difference. (Still within the 30 day return policy). I thinking of going for it.
Hi there . . .
Can anybody give me their honest non-biased opinion on whether the Canon SD880 is "better" than the SD990?
I plan on purchasing the 880 and I would like any opinions people have on it before I make the final decision. Any info is helpful. Thanks!
What are the benefits of the sd880 over the older sd870 and are they worth it?
