I am a huge Canon fan but I am so disappointed at these, I had to post again.
These seem to be merely a bump in unnecessary MPs. Other manufacturers have begun shipping compacts with 5X zoom, 24mm wides and HD videos. Granted this may have a better picture quality than some of those 'other' cameras but why not have some features with great picture quality??
I agree, sort of. I think that Canon has to increase the MP count to remain competitive with the uninformed and to make people want to buy one of these over last year's model, but that's no reason not to improve the optics as well.
Sorry, but a $400 P&S should have a zoom somewhere in the 5-7x range and I'd expect it to be at least 28mm-equivalent on the wide end.
If I were interested in one of these I'd go with the 880 over the 990 as, aside from the pixel count, it seems to be a better camera. In fact, I think I may get one as a companion for my XSi when I want something a little smaller but still capable.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
14.7 megapixel sensor? is that really necessary in a point-and-shoot?
Yes. I for one like the idea of being able to study my cellular structure with my digital camera.
