T-Mobile G1 said to be landing October 17th, Sprint Android phone out by 2009?
We've already been hearing that the HTC G1 (otherwise known as the Dream) would be landing on T-Mobile in late October, but VentureBeat now claims that it has further pegged the actual release date down to October 17th (it'll apparently start shipping on the 13th), which would be a tad earlier than most had expected. What's more, the site is also citing "multiple sources" claiming that Sprint's own Android phone will "definitely" be out by 2009, and that it will have "other functionality" than the Dream / G1. Ah, the endless cycle of speculation. Place your bets, folks.[Via The Boy Genius Report]

I've copied and pasted "I love pozzitron" about 3200 times today with tears of joy running down my face.
I've used it today.
And fanboy? You're not helping your master's case there
Phoenix is a stupid city with too many outlet stores.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
@ pozzitron fanboy
I'm low-ranking anyone with the word "fanboy" in their name, because it's either A) the original pozzitron, posting ridiculous and unnecessary praise for himself or B) Someone in drastic need of a life.
the best part about Google working with another company: Google quality, plus the product makes it out of beta!
Google _should_ be working with Aperture; they'd be out of beta and releasing on time.
Unless Sprint leaks a photo of a better looking phone, the G1 will be my next purchase.
Coming to Sprint in the same dreamy package?
Is it REALLY going to look like the photo that has been used (and above)? That is one of the most vanilla looking phones I have ever seen.
I can't really say how, but I'm 100% confident that the phone will at least be available in black.
Are the iPhone fanboi posts automated?
I HATE my yellow teeth!!
Are you buried in debt?
(stop buying overpriced gadgets!)
I'm so relieved. I was worried those ads were targeted just at me.
That will make a nice bday present.. to myself
is it still ugly?
Yes yes, release date moved up speculation, all fine and dandy... but what about the Pre-order that was supposed to go down THIS month? What's going on with that? Original rumors there would be a pre-order special 09/17... obvioulsy not going to happen, especially if the offical press announcement is the 23rd.
Damn I want a new phone already and don't want to leave T-mo and everything they keep showing is STILL NOT OUT YET! Hurry the F**K up magenta bastards. A dumb new Sidekick and a run of the mill Sony flip phone is not enough. Give us the GOOD STUFF already.
rumors begin from unfounded claims by readers of engadget:
"Android coming to Sprint by 2009, in the new HTC Touch HD."
*crosses fingerssss*
How about touch HD pro? With slide out keyboard (would capacitive screen be too much to ask for, too?). That'd get me to switch carriers easily.
Dear Sprint:
I have a solution to your recent subscriber woes - Xhom Android.
You are welcome.
I currently have an iPaq 910 running WinMo Pro as my day to day workhorse phone for both work and play. I'm looking for a good side by side comparison or detailed specs to see if I could replace it with the G1. Here is what I want in my next phone and my understanding of what Android provides:
1. Email: hotmail, gmail, Outlook/Exchange, IMAP/POP3:
my understanding: No Exchange/Outlook synch unless I use IMAP, Gmail no problem. Hotmail via web only
2. Contact synch (Gmail and Outlook/Exchange):
my understanding: Gmail contact synch, but no Outlook/Exchange unless a 3rd party provides
3. Calendar synch (Gmail and Exchange)
my understanding: Gmail calendar synch but no Exchange/Outlook
4. Napster, Rhapsody or other music subscription support: I use Napster today which lets me synch all the music I want to 3 devices and 3 PCs and have shared playlists with my family. ...
my understanding: MP3/AAC/WMA support, not sure how playlists are handled though, no subscription services as of now
5. Bluetooth handsfree & A2DP/Stereo support
my understanding: Yes to bluetooth hands-free but not sure of A2DP/Stereo
6. Wifi with Skype support for out of country calling
my understanding: wifi yes, no Skype as of now but possible
7. MicroSD expansion
yes
8. 3MP+ camera
yes
9. Video recording nice to have, but not required
Not supported
10. GPS: I use CoPilot today for turn by turn, but would buy another package/upgrade if needed
11. Video/movie playback
Yes: H.264, 3GPP, MPEG4 formats supported
Is there a good source of more detailed functionality out there?
thanks! TJ
Half of that can probably be done via third party apps. Unlike the Apple's Apple store where you can 40 currency converters and 200 mahjong games I fully expect some really kick ass tools to show up for Android.
TJ,
I agree. I'm excited about Andriod and plan to get it, but I don't know if I can until I know the capabilities of this thing. It's hard to get very excited about it when there's a good chance that it won't have some essential features I need, like Outlook syncing.

It's a shame the photo in that article (Touch HD) is so misleading. The majority of the article was about the Dream, yet they couldn't locate one of the many leaked photos of it?
Sprint, give me the Touch HD with Android in Q1 '09 and I might be willing to pay the unsubsidized price for it.
Im excited about this, I was wondering whether or not Sprint would hop on the wagon in a DECENT amount of time. This is just in time for me to buy a new phone. Although I really need to get some hands on time with the actual phone so I can truly determine whether or not its worth my bread.
This makes me so sad as a Verizon customer.
There isn't a single device I am interested in that they offer.
Why can't I have this?!
