Life with PlayStation begins today
After making a false start earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment just announced the official, global launch of its free, Life with PlayStation PS3 service. Initially, Live Channel will deliver worldwide news and information such as weather and live camera images from 60 cities around the globe -- more interactive content will be delivered in time. Check the video demonstration after the break for setup instructions and quickie overview.

You forgot to add the cost of a hard drive to your $200 system price. There's another $100+ for a 20GB HDD, or around $200 for a120GB HDD. Then if you add the wireless module, it's another $100.
Essentially, the lower end models are going to be similiarly priced if you compare them with the same features
hmm...I'm beginning to think farlander doesn't even own a PS3. Why do you care so much about what other people buy and enjoy? Are we all wrong for finding this a nice feature? I, like many others, bought the PS3 because it is a great game console and a lot more. If you don't think so, then don't buy it. Are you trying to convince us to return it and get a 360? why, what do you gain?
Oh, dear... "if it had any useful service for gamers", of course :D
Maybe, just maybe they will now start implementing Flash 9 into the browser so that I can watch my episodes of Lost on my tv...
Well, you could watch Lost on your TV, if you had chosen XBOX-360 ;) In all its HD glory, with 5.1 sound. Lost is available on XBL, and now - on iTunes too (although not so HD, and with Stereo sound only).
P.S. I've watched all four episodes of Lost on 360.
yes, I'm sure I could, but I don't want to pay to watch a show that I can watch for free if I go on abc's website and stream it from there--and yes in its HD glory...all with flash 9.
you do realize that you can downoad movies on a ps3, in SD and HD no less (omg you mean that XBOX has the same idea as other people, do tell) But besides that Lost? really, Lost? Why not go with a less predictable show?
I downloaded the newest update this morning and I have no playstation life. I am in the u.s. does anyone have any idea where it is located or if it is coming out on a different update for us? Thanks
"Life with PlayStation is now available for download by selecting the Folding@home icon under “Network” on the XMB"
For all other questions, there's always the bible.
It's a gaming console!! NOT A COMPUTER!! Sony get with the program....just copy Xbox360
Sheesh, so many people acting like Sony is charging them for this. Its not like they're delaying LBP or KZ2 to get this done, companies like Sony have separate teams of people just for adding new features like this. Its smart to add extra features like this, as it adds value for some people. Also, with stuff like this, they'll probably continue adding functionality as time goes on. There is a lot of potential, even though its very limited right now.
Although I only spent a couple minutes with it, personally, I think its convenient. The PS3 boots up faster than my PC, so I'm far more likely to launch Life with PS than my PC if I want to quickly check the weather or the news. While this isn't really any better functionally than the Wii, there's a lot more potential for new features with Life.
The PS3 gamer finally get's a life.
Well that was pretty stupid and unintuitive to set it up through folding at home. Let's see I'm supposed to understand the guy with a thick accent on a youtube like video that I have to go to folding at home in order to run a bunch of updates so I finally get what is a very slick interface with lousy PS3 browser content?
Not much to write home about here.
