Whoa, wait up. You're telling us Audiovox hasn't abandoned the
RCA Lyra moniker entirely? Storming back from
the grave the unknown is the Lyra Slider, a PMP that could definitely go for $29.99 on contract from any major carrier with just a dial-pad and a CDMA radio. As it stands, this media player arrives with 4GB or 8GB of capacity and plays back audio, video, FM radio and photo slideshows. Furthermore, you'll find an integrated voice / media recorder, USB 2.0 port and a rechargeable battery good for up to 50 hours of music playback or 8 hours of video playback. Look for this to show up later in the fall for $79.99 (4GB) / $99.99 (8GB).
Slider PMP? Looks so wrong.
At first I was digging the look, but surely with that bezel the controls could've been integrated w/o slide; I'd much rather the slide + larger screen though.
I thought LYRA was dead too.
I don't know why RCA is still around either, Audiovox aint doing anything special with that name. too bad
I thought RCA died a long time ago, did they bury that RCA dog in the pet cemetery and now it's all evil and boring?
that's gonna sell a shitload of units to teens that aren't spoiled and have parents who buy them smartphones.
if it actually is that inexpensive, that is.
I reread the article, and apparently I'm stupid. It's not ACTUALLY a phone, that's just engadget speculation.
Still, it would sell a ton... pretty cool as a basic PMP, but I don't really see the need for it to slide, especially if you have such a huge border around the screen.
Not Engadget speculation, it's Engadget humour.
looks kinda cheap....
It IS inexpensive.
yea .. it looks like something we'd eventually see at wal-mart. this thing looks horrid.
would have made sense if the face didn't already have enough room for the buttons, now its a bad gimmick
I'm a little confused about the "PMP that could definitely go for $29.99 on contract from any major carrier with just a dial-pad and a CDMA radio" part.
translation - there are phones selling for that price that look like this thing, and do all the same things, but only cost $29.99.
no real translation:
engadget likes to be sarcastic and make fun of how the PMP looks like a cheap slider phone, at the same time making fools of commenters who don't know how to read
i had a rca lyra at one point a few years ago. it was buggy, had horrible random shuffle, and would crash occasionally. such a polished product.
I wonder what the dimensions on that little bad boy are.
[SARCASM] All I see is tight abs [/SARCASM]
Well, it does have impressive battery life.
hahaha, i had the original Lyra. worst media player ever!
i've never used any other lyra stuff, but this looks nice...sleek and simple...well it's not a phone but would you really need a slider for a phone either? so why not for a pmp...for something different? the rca dogs are out the windows i think, but looks like they are getting better..at least not that bad... :) i hope...
