Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.

Sure,
Knight Rider is probably the worst show ever in the history of the moving picture, but that doesn't stop Sony Ericsson from wanting to throw some money in its direction (or not, seeing as the company's logo has apparently been scrubbed). Between the nearly intolerable dialogue and absurdly fake green-screen car chases, check out a glimpse of the forthcoming Xperia X1... if you can tolerate even a moment of this abomination.
[Thanks, Marco]

Oh no, no no no no no no NO!

X1 just doesn't appeal to me anymore because
- It's NOT an HTC alternative (given its made by HTC)
- Doesn't look as good as the new HTC Touch range (Pro, HD etc)
- Nothing special about it spec-wise compared to HTC Touch range
After how HTC screwed us loyal fans with the missing video drivers debacle with the TyTn II -- I don't think I'm ever gonna go running back into their arms.
Yankees368 @ Sep 20th 2008 2:51AM
That has to be the most awful TV show I have ever watched half of and turned off.
Smart People Play Tuba @ Sep 20th 2008 9:28PM
It's arguably just as campy as the 80s version. The problem is, you're not 12 anymore.
wroot @ Sep 20th 2008 3:01AM
If you are talking about new tv serial, maybe you are right. Haven't seen. But i do kinda like the old series with Hasselhoff and some other oldschool tv series as my favorite P.I. Magnum :)
mymaclife @ Sep 20th 2008 7:00AM
I'm with Colin Potter.
Wroot posted 'If you are talking about new tv serial, maybe you are right. Haven't seen. But i do kinda like the old series with Hasselhoff and some other oldschool tv series as my favorite P.I. Magnum :)'
In the opening sentence he omits the word 'the', after the comma there should be the word 'then'.
In this context it's not a 'serial' but a 'series'
The modality of his second sentence is flawed it is missing the word 'I' and 'it'.
In fact the whole response is littered with the worst grammar possible.
I know I'll get low ranked for pointing this out, or alternatively get some mindless, uneducated twat telling me that grammar and sentence construction is unimportant, but remember if those writing software code took the same approach, then your software would be screwed or at best Vista.

How does Colin Potter know "wroot" is from England? And why did he call him a you-know-what?
mymaclife @ Sep 20th 2008 8:37AM
@ Zoom
The use of a colon there is debatable, but can be used if one so wishes.
@ Gad Get
Sadly Colin let the side down by the omission and over us of punctuation, however the point was still well made.
mymaclife @ Sep 20th 2008 8:40AM
Opps I meant the word 'use' not 'us' - glass houses!

god, you guys are such grammar nerds
Rogue_Genius @ Sep 20th 2008 1:42PM
@ gad get: He likely inferred wroot's nation of origin by his use of the word "serial" as opposed to "series". That usage is common in the United Kingdom and is used there as we Americans use the word "series". Example 'a comedy serial' is equivalent to 'a comedy series'.
@ everyone else: yep, he's definitely quoting Pulp Fiction. good call.

We're sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed within the United States. For more information on Hulu's international availability, click *here*.
Malweran @ Sep 20th 2008 6:38AM
Yeah.. that makes me sad. There are alot of things on the internet that restrict to the USA only.. I mean comon! USA is only a part of the whole internet.
Not fair :'(
Leif @ Sep 20th 2008 3:12PM
hotspot shield is a simple program that lets you watch hulu and other restricted sites outside the U.S
mymaclife @ Sep 20th 2008 8:43AM
It is to do with licensing restrictions in international territories, this can seem restrictive, but is there to protect copyright owners. At times not been able to see American TV can be a blessing!
Amit @ Sep 20th 2008 9:09AM

"...Knight Rider is probably the worst show ever in the history of the moving picture..." Oh.. then I'll just assume you haven't seen "New Amsterdam" ..which, I believe, was also put out by NBC. Truly terrible. Gah.
Dougp @ Sep 20th 2008 10:59AM
New Amsterdam was a Fox show produced by 4 production companies. None of these companies were NBC or Universal Television. NBC produces a lot of garbage but they are not as bad as some of the others.

Just wow.... that was so horrible I can't get through the first ten minutes without wanting gouge my eyes. This an extremely poor remake and will not make past it's pilot.

ahh while I'll never have that 44 minutes of my life back (I did keep waiting for it to get better... it never happened, although, I was entertained with the girl's reasoning for why they had to all of a sudden take off their clothes), I did pause it and say to myself, "holy crap, is that the Xperia?!?"

DEAR GOD.
I hate it when TV does this...
I remember watching a show where for an entire phone call you could CLEARLY see the WM5 Today screen on the screen of the phone... She had it up to her ear but you could still see it.
It breaks me a little inside when I see things like that.
The Dude @ Sep 20th 2008 2:06PM
LOL indeed. They were too cheap to send a real txt msg.
rahat @ Sep 20th 2008 5:50AM
that show was so magnificently terrible that i actually enjoyed it. my favorite parts were:
1. there was no explanation as to what the hell was going on in the first scene - they asked him to retrieve the target, but didn't tell him wtf it was
2. that was the gayest tech lab of all time
3. how the hell did the missile lock on to michael "tracuer" (gayest name ever btw)
4. that stupid girl in the tech lab
5. why did have "KR" on the bottom of the car
6. haha the whole episode made no sense at all - why did they strip in the car?
i mean really, this episode was so terrible, that it really goes in the hall of fame for awesomeness by virtue of its crappy-ness. i mean it joins the ranks of Fast and the Furious
"YOU EMBARRASS ME!"
"I live my life 1/4 a mile at a time"
"You aint in control till you outta control - tokyo drift baby"
I'm not sure hte show had any extra stupid lines, but it did have excellently terrible scenes. I can't believe the cut off the guys thumb to get his DNA. You coulda just grabbed a tissue swab. its ridiculous. and awesome.
best worst show ever.
Chris @ Sep 20th 2008 9:35AM
If this is the worst show, obviously no one here has saw Hole in the Wall. That...truly wins worst show.
The Dude @ Sep 20th 2008 2:12PM
@Chris:
Yeah well, what did you expect? They took the premise from a weird Japanese porno called "Glory Hole in the Wall."

UnnDunn @ Sep 20th 2008 9:04AM
This is NOT the Knight Rider reboot we were sold with the movie last fall.
That movie had just the right mix of 80s camp and 00s drama.
This series looks like they jacked up the 80s camp to incomprehensible level. :(
Bloobie @ Sep 20th 2008 8:08PM
Uhm, February 2008 was not "last Fall". And that movie was just as horrible as this new series. It wasn't even a movie. It was a 2-hour commercial for Ford.
Michael @ Sep 20th 2008 9:19AM
What the heck are you guys talking about? Knight Rider was an awesome show. I used to love it when I was a kid.
UnnDunn @ Sep 20th 2008 10:06AM
Not THAT Knight Rider. That Knight Rider (featuring The Hoff) was awesome.
We're talking about this NEW Knight Rider, the one that premieres next Tuesday on NBC, and is available on Hulu and various other TV download sites in the US for free as a sneak preview, with KITT played by a Mustang Shelby Cobra and voiced by Val Kilmer.
UnnDunn @ Sep 20th 2008 10:47AM
Yeah, THAT Knight Rider (featuring the immortal Hoff) was awesome.
But we're talking about this NEW Knight Rider, with KITT played by a Mustang Shelby Cobra and voiced by Val Kilmer (among other travesties.) THIS Knight Rider premieres this Tuesday on NBC, but if you live in the US, you can watch it on Hulu or download the first episode for free wherever NBC shows are sold online (it's a sneak preview.)
