Suspected ASUS P565 turns up, gets detailed

Nothing is quite official about this ASUS phone just yet, but the current speculation is that it's actually the ASUS P565 and, judging from some newly-detailed specs, it looks like it shouldn't have much trouble attracting its share of interest. Leading the way is a speedy 800MHz Marvell Tavor processor (apparently a first for any phone), and a still relatively uncommon 2.8-inch VGA screen, which should go nicely with the VGA camera for video conferencing (you'll get 3-megapixels for still mages). Otherwise, you can expect European HSDPA connectivity, built-in GPS, a 1300mAh battery that promises 3.5 hours of 3G talk time, and Windows Mobile 6.1 for an OS (with ASUS' Glide software on top of it), of course. No word on a price just yet, but word is this one is on track for a release as soon as October.

I think this just knocked the Touch Pro straight into child's play
now slap some TF3D and we officially got a winner
Patriks7 @ Sep 22nd 2008 5:24PM
After seeing the huge screen of the Touch HD, the 2.8" just kills it :\

That's what used to say when the iPhone came around. Although I don't know if the iPhone was mobile phone with a 3.5" screen. I do like the specs though, 800Mhz is a fast processor for a smartphone and coupled with a descent amount of RAM, this thing will run WM 6.1 without a hitch. I surely I wish my iPhone had the specs.

did i read correctly? "1300mAh battery that promises 3.5 hours of 3G talk time" at first i thought to myself (must have meant video calling) but nope there's the original text. Who the hell could deal with this! there won't be battery for anything else if you have a 10 minute call here and there and listen to an hour of ranting by the wife about the quality of the fruit at the supermarket. some companies need to read as much as we do before making a phone!
gad get @ Sep 23rd 2008 3:58AM
Your wife rants to you for an hour about the quality of the fruit at the supermarket frequently, I take it? And no, that wasn't a euphemism.

blizz419 @ Sep 22nd 2008 5:38PM
wtf is up with phones always coming with real shitty batteries 1300 mAh should unacceptable in 2008 they should be putting in 2500 mAh batteries there not bleeding edge or expensive
MattyG @ Sep 22nd 2008 5:45PM
why the f*ck do companies keep insisting on putting more stuff ontop of windows mobile?
like it wasn't bloated enough already and all it's going to be is some fancy launcher which won't go anywhere, the only reason it exists is because winmobile isn't good enough in the first place.
they should put their efforts into android or their own linux distro for mobile devices
GON @ Sep 22nd 2008 6:09PM
"why the f*ck do companies keep insisting on putting more stuff ontop of windows mobile?"
Because they can. Once again, companies have they freedom to change whatever they don't like in Windows Mobile. And oh yeah, people like it: http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=577

Bloated? No. Fancy Launcher? Not really. maybe not good enough for you, ut it's good enough for 18 million people: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/372906_msftmobile31.html
"they should put their efforts into android or their own linux distro for mobile devices"
Why?
Rob Pereira @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:46PM
@GON:
Just because the vast majority of smartphones come with Windows Mobile doesn't mean people are buying the phones WM or that they like the experience. I've yet to meet anyone who has used WM and enjoyed the experience. Not the CEO of my company, my mother, or my friends. I'd rather drink bleach than use WM again.

Steve Jobs @ Sep 22nd 2008 9:15PM
Ironically, it's the same phone but a different casing.
Shame about the OS though, iPhone still takes the cake.

damn nobody does it better than the iphone!!!

I agree that the iphone is a wonderful device but I think apple should lighten up on the pricing I believe that firmware upgrades to a device that you already bought and paid for should be free. Then again I'm not speaking on behalf of the many programmers who's hard work, time, and dedication goes into developing the firmware.
