Okay, so we're pretty sure a fortnight after August 7th was August 21st, and while CherryPal was adamant it would
finally release its $249 cloud PC then, it has since hit
another snag. This go 'round, the company is blaming a "glitch with the graphics processor," which "absolutely needed to be addressed." Comically enough, it's suggesting that the unit will now ship -- gasp! -- two weeks from now, though we're more apt to believe you'd want to make out with Android if given the chance than to trust anything coming from the
doors of CherryPal.

Ok, i finally got it why people loves Apple stuff.
It IS AVAILABLE next door everywhere.
I would like to get some of those nifty gadget that look terrific: $250 cloud PC, 300$ Micro projectors. G1, 100$ CE-laptop, etc... They will never (or in one year at 3x price) reach my city (Montreal, 3 million residents) :(

I think that it resembles some kind of secret pornographic set top box. One of the ones that would be marketed as "stylish and discreet"

that's exactly what it is, thus the resemblance to a phallus :-) (note the twig & berries, i mean, cherries)

I forget, what was the point of this again? You still need a monitor so why wouldn't you just get any one of the four thousand netbooks that are now floating around?
Stuart Mantel @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:55PM
Lets add it up:
$249 Cherry module
150 small LCD monitor
30 Keyboard and mouse
----------
$429
You could get a small laptop or a basic PC for that price but the point of cloud computing is that it all resides on the internet ("in the cloud"). Where ever you go, you only need to connect to the internet to find all of your stuff. They to all the system maintenance and backups.
There are no disk drives to crash. At 2 watts it won't heat your room or increase your electricity bill. There is very little in there to go wrong. If you ever upgrade, it's as simple as unplugging the old and plugging in the new one. No data to transfer or worry about.
If you are one of those people who use a computer for e-mail and a little shopping it may be a great solution. If you're a power user or a heavy gamer, don't bother reading the specs.

Plus I already have a plethora of spare LCDs and who doesn't have extra keyboards and mice?
This would have been perfect for a net station in public places....
Matt @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:38PM
Oh come on, what else could you expect from a company who's logo looks like a ballsack?
dimce @ Sep 23rd 2008 5:35PM
