Smartparts goes small(er) with 8-inch SPX8WF WiFi digiframe
Just in case you're not kosher with covering up your entire wall with a 32-inch digital photo frame, Smartparts is also introducing an entirely more reasonable frame at Photokina. The 8-inch SPX8WF packs the same 802.11b/g support as its (much) larger sibling, enabling it to integrate nicely with Windows Live Photo Gallery and display customized RSS feeds. Also of note, this little bugger comes with its own unique e-mail address which is hosted on Smartparts servers. What for, you ask? In order to send out any of your loaded images to friends who you think care, that's what for. As for specs, you've got an 800 x 600 resolution LCD, multicard reader, 512MB of internal memory and a real wood frame. Check it this November for $149.99.

A 32 inch digital picture frame? Come on. That's ridiculous!
This 8 incher is fairly nice, and frankly, this would be perfect for my bedroom.

Not sure what a 'customized' RSS feed is. I'd want it to work with any RSS feed full of photos. Ship one to the grandparents and send it a stream of flickr...

I don't understand... Why are these frames always so expensive... you can buy a eee laptop for little more than that...
Will someone please explain it to me? Am I missing something other than a screen with a card reader and a WiFi antena?
TRAFFICBLOWS @ Sep 23rd 2008 8:56PM
exactly! and i doubt the lcd even looks that good.
Mikeweezer @ Sep 24th 2008 2:01AM
I think it's the fine quality wood frame...

the LCD is the biggie followed by a CPU, attendant hardware, controls, memory, hard drive or more expensive flash to store stuff, a weberver, wifi control software, the picture software, an OS and the software services you need to control all the inputs and outputs, screen controls,
OH AND DID I MENTION THE F*****G SOFTWARE that you need to pay someone to write that makes all this s**T happen??? Long live the Wallflower... may it rest in peace.

Thanks man!
Yeah, it won't even be a contest with our 2nd-string QB in there. Ugh. NC State is *always* injured it seems. Best of luck, though!

$150 isn't bad, considering that Ality's Pixxa Wireless that was announced a year ago, shown at CES in January and was mysteriously dropped from preorder on Amazon last month was going for $300!
webon @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:18PM
not bad... to expensive still

First of all I want to say that 32" is too much, you could by a tv and display your pictures there. Anyways, I was recently looking for a nice 8" digital photo frame, after 30 min looking all over the internet i realized that all sucked! they lack features, usability, and quality materials (frame). so then i decided to look for one that had a good lcd screen you know high resolution and high viewing angles and then I found out that all of them even the almost 300$ have horrible viewing angles! (I settle for a 8" kodak, its not that bad..)
I just think that companies should concentrate they efforts in improving some areas:
-automatic rotating with a movement detector like the ones in digital cameras or the iphone
-a way to arrange the order of the pictures
-better viewing angles
-better looking frames / wood frames (I only found one, but the rest weren't that good)
-WI-Fi and all of those fancy extras are not really that important (for some people like me)
Murphy Mac @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:32PM
actually wifi is one of the few things I DO care about. I'd much rather send it photos via RSS than mess with cards. Granted, screen quality and viewing angle are important too...

I've been wanting to get a wi-fi frame forever. But they are few and far between and found nothing at a price I was willing to pay that didn't require me to post my pics to some here today, gone tomorrow service. I had decided to build my own but the old laptop was my wife's and she gave it away (got put to better use).
The prices really need to get realistic. d

Haha, yeah, but the campus of UNC Dub is so beautiful :-)

@MurphyMac. I would love to have that functionality as well as I live away from my mother and would love to update her pics remotely. is anyone else even close?
rcappo @ Sep 24th 2008 1:05PM
estarling.com is the picture frame my family uses. It is simple enough for my Mom to send e-mails out to update everyone's picture frames, and we can send e-mails to hers.
