It's crazy to think, but October is merely days away. That also means that Breast Cancer Awareness month is just around the bend, and Sony's being ultra proactive by announcing two new pink laptop bundles to support breast cancer research. First up is the Cosmopolitan Pink
VAIO CR pack, which features a 14.1-inch LCD, 1.3-megapixel camera, Core 2 Duo CPU, Bluetooth, a built-in DVD burner and a matching case / mouse. If that's a tad large and / or underpowered for your tastes, you can check the Glossy Pink
VAIO SR, a 4-pound rig with a 13.3-inch LED backlit display, up to 320GB of HDD space and a "Switch" mode that gives users the ability to toggle between high performance and power saving modes on the fly. The two bundles start at $870 and $1,399, respectively, though you can CTO them both 'til your wallet cries uncle.

Where is the blue version supporting prostate cancer???????
YesHone @ Sep 25th 2008 5:46PM
Is the background supposed to be a microscopic look at breast tissue?
PJ @ Sep 25th 2008 7:35PM
Stop the insanity! All that buying pink does is support breast cancer!
konshuss @ Sep 26th 2008 10:29AM
i would instantly be more attracted to a girl if i saw her using one of these as opposed to that cake cutter those other guys make.
@PJ: uh-wha?
Knives_Out @ Sep 25th 2008 5:39PM
How noble of you Sony.
.... now release the "GREEN" version .. in either bamboo or the color green and the PROJECT RED version to support ... ??something??
Boarderwoot @ Sep 25th 2008 5:44PM
Despite the wallpaper looking like it has some kind of skin disease, this is a great idea, though how much of the fundage is actually going towards breast cancer research?
Sergey @ Sep 25th 2008 5:48PM
I hope this is not like HP's and DELL's "RED" version. Those products based in the RED brand are supposed to give some of the product's cost to help some altruist cause, but Dell and HP increased the average price more than 50% in those RED products and they only give 15% of the cost to the RED cause. So far, The iPod RED cost almost the same (10 dollars more or less than the original) and they give 15% to the cause. So let's hope SONY is really trying to help and not just trying to make more money to pay for all the batteries recalls they have to do.

I disagree... I am fully in support of breast cancer research, but I am not going to walk around with a pink laptop to show it. How about I buy a normal looking laptop and just give money directly to the research foundations? I bet that way they'll get more money and get it faster.
fieldcar @ Sep 25th 2008 5:59PM
As cold hearted as it may seem from me, I could care less about "causes" when looking for technology. It reminds me of when I was looking for a decent portable dvd player, I was gonna cheap out, but best buy only had the damn things in "save the females" pink... WTF!

However, the SR series is a SUPERB laptop. In addition it's the only laptop out right now that I personally felt looks really great (in silver). I got Z series laptop which looks very similar because of extra features but I feel SR looks better. You may not like it in pink but this certainly isn't the case of a crappy product with some pink slobbered over.
jupiterthunder @ Sep 25th 2008 6:17PM
Remember college, when your laundry went in white but came out supporting breast cancer research.
Poom @ Sep 25th 2008 6:59PM
ROFL. I just started my freshman year and that already happened to me!! hahaha
Steve Jobs @ Sep 25th 2008 6:49PM
Why don't you just donate $200 to breast cancer directly and buy a macbook?
corgilabsG @ Sep 25th 2008 8:59PM
or by my RED iPods, right Steve? ya, those ppl in poorer countries have breast, right?
Hazar_Jast @ Sep 25th 2008 10:28PM
Wow, interesting choice in line-break placement:
"Sony intros VAIO CR / SR bundles in support of breast cancer.....
....research"
On the first read I was thinking, "Man, Sony has really gone downhill. It's actually supporting a life-threatening disease?"
Tamer Brad @ Sep 25th 2008 10:31PM
So where can I buy this? I've had it with my fucking MacBook and Apple's bullshit.
udontknowmehomie @ Sep 25th 2008 11:28PM
Actually this is old news sorry engadget......Sony realesed this pink CR bundled laptop a long time ago(october 2007) for breast cancer awarness month.... this is a re-release but bravo for the extra support we all should do our part to help fight cancer!
Mark @ Sep 26th 2008 2:58AM
Where are the prostate cancer models? Prostate cancer kills slightly more people than breast cancer, but breast cancer gets 7 times the funding.
Males are the disposable sex.
bstear @ Sep 29th 2008 2:12PM
Because breasts are much nicer looking than prostate glands.
And EVERY month is Breast Awareness month for me.....oops, misread that....
ssrat_ @ Sep 26th 2008 9:11AM
I would not be to embarrassed carrying that around, especially compared to that ugly bright red thing that was shown a few days ago, it's actually a NICE metallic pink color.
Of course the fact I am looking at netbooks rules it right out price wise, it would be nice to have done it across their entire line
MARK: I'd say that while the numbers might be true, the fact is breast cancer has been "out there" for the last 10+ years in a public way, while prostate cancer is only NOW starting to get a little bit of traction.
One of the problems is of course most men put the Dr off for ever about anything and DOUBLY so for things "down there"
AS for a "Blue" model, the ACER ONE has a nice blue shell, so they actually could do it right away without changing anything, just say "during month X we will donate a % to prostate cancer"
Pete @ Sep 26th 2008 1:39PM
Consumers, let's wake up!
We can support causes on out own AND have the stuff we want. These "cause" badged products are just a way for a company to make more sales by getting the gullible buyers to act on emotion.
