iYo YOYO Induction Charger lets you enjoy your tunes sans AC
For any iPhone or iPod user brimming with energy that might otherwise go wasted on aimless fidgeting, Swedish designer Peter Thuvander has devised the perfect way for you to marry your hyperactivity and your love for your Apple device: the iYo YOYO Induction Charger. While playing with the charger as you would an ordinary yo-yo, a small lithium-ion battery is charged inside, which in turn powers your device. The idea sounds great, and if it ever gets out of the concept stage we look forward to having our idle hands finally used as something other than the Devil's playthings. Check out a video of the device in rendered action after the break.

"The device connected is not compatible with iPhone"
enjoy your FryPhone
It only says that when it will actually work, it appears to give you the option to go into airplane mode in case they are iPod speakers that could pick up interference, which is a nice feature (it saves you from having to turn it off by yourself in the settings, and I personally always found it useful). If it is a device can't work with it at all, no message pops up at all.
Guess I don't care, I returned my iPhone and never had it pop up on my iPod Touch since! :-)

Guess I don't care, I returned my iPhone about a year ago and never had it pop up on my iPod Touch! :-)
I just bought a brand new 4th gen nano (I upgraded from 2nd gen nano), and now the charger in my car (which used to work fine) now says this? WTF APPLE! My $50 just went out the door?
He wont sell it with that logo on.
Yes, he will.
AND he'll be able to 'charge' way over the odds for it on that basis!
Nothing more lucrative than the "i(Insertyourproductsnamehere)" franchise.
Isn't it just darling the way he managed to make an ickle face in the picture too.
Oops, sorry. Disregard/Low Rank
We would have Low Ranked you even if you'd only posted once...
"If it is a device can't work with it at all"
WTF?
Grammar my fiend, grammar
@yadayadadayadada
"my fiend"?
And you're correcting other people? WTF?
it looks nice
They find a way to Bring back the yoyo craze
Every generation
I thought it was funny enough hearing about people who wing their Wiimotes through their TVs accidentally... now we can see people sling their iPods halfway across the room on a failed three-leaf-clover, if their cable is too short or gets tangled. Awesome!
According to the article, the yo-yo charges a battery inside of itself. When that battery is done charging, stop playing with the yo-yo and plug in your iPhone.
-1 for comment. +10 for avatar.
Couldnt it work with any device that can be charged via USB?
That's what I was thinking...unless there's some sort of special "Apple Only" usb that i'm unaware of. Though the simple fact that it's branded with the Apple logo would probably cause my Zune to spontaneously combust if i tried to recharge its battery while trying to do a Sleeper.
Nice concept. But how many hours do you have to play with the Yoyo to get enough battery ?
174.5
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a yo-yo.
Why only target the i-products? This could be used for any usb device.. damn swedish ... they just like i-products like ikea.
No Air Conditioning? Shame.
If you are charging an iPhone with it, your hands will still be the devil's playthings.
This wont work. The induction field will screw up the rotation of the yo-yo. You'd either have to pull very little juice, or seriously crank that yo-yo....Also, it would probably be better you use it to charge something like a rechargable AA batttery that fits inside the yo-yo instead of trying to plug something into a moving yo-yo... This whole idea is dumb. Just get the iCrank, like those OLPC laptops that you crack up to juice up. Make an I-phone app where you can e-race where your controller is the crank, and the faster you crank the faster your dude goes, and while you're playing, you're actually charging you phone/mp3 player.
Ps.: Read the article
Quick, this is still up in the App Store! Download it before Stevo & The Gang pull it down for being too useful for its own damn good!
Charging a device with a series of high voltage spikes is incredibly bad for the battery
I take it reading comprehension 101 wasn't your best subj.;
[While playing with the charger] as you would an ordinary yo-yo, a small lithium-ion battery is charged inside, [which in turn] powers your device.
and you obviously never played with a yo-yo, the USB plug would throw it off balance.

Screw the iPod, I would use this for just about everything else. An instant urbanite survival item. One question though how many times would one have to yo-yo to get a quality charge out of the thing.
In the video it says: "more fun THEN the sun". Isn't that supposed to be "THAN"?
No, no, it's "more fun, then the sun", as in first you have your fun, then the sun comes and gives you cancer.
using this thing would make the guys on "The Big Band Theory" seem normal.
I'd hit that. Assuming I ever left my computer / the general vacinity of an outlet.
not good. you "i'd hit that" comment is dangerously close to the "guys on the Big-Bang Theory" comment.
Of course, by the time this gets posted, there will probably be a safe buffer.

"An Apple spoof I made to greet the oncoming Swedish winter and looming darkness. And a tribute to my loved iPhone."
hmm, seems genuine to you?
I think that this is GREAT!!! Dig my yo-yos and I would love to actually produce some juice while having fun. I say bring it on.
Oh man there is so much i-crap on the market.
I would wait Until they get this one in i-something edition.

I would buy this....
wow...
so if u want to get ur device recgarged properly
u hv to be a pro yoyo player?
XD
Hmmm, I've never had "warhammer glod". Must be popular according to your post. At least I hope it tastes good :P
Won't produce usable electricity. We see dozens of these design concept from designers and architects who have no concept of magnetic drag, Faraday and Lenz's laws. Sure are pretty though. The higher the power output, the more mechanical resistance from the generator/alternator. Alas, no free lunch. Show me an engineering prototype and I'll listen.
This thing should go wireless.
