Metal Gear Solid rubber band gun is non-lethal overkill
When you're caught between the lines of dueling mercenary armies, trapped in a rapidly aging body that doesn't quite react the way it used to, you need a reliable side arm to protect yourself. That was Solid Snake's situation in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, his chosen weapon the Silver Wolf pistol, recreated here in as a Japanese fan's stainless steel and rubber band DIY masterpiece. Constructed of numerous cross-drilled plates and featuring both a laser sight and integrated flashlight, the result looks to be impressively accurate and likely quite painful, as you can see for yourself in a video just below. Bonus reloading footage included!

for a rubber band gun that's pretty bad ass
Flashpoint @ Sep 26th 2008 10:14AM
Not to be confused with other rubber band guns with the same body and design made in China - lacking the Metal Gear Solid logo.
Tray-J @ Sep 26th 2008 11:48AM
you bet it is I think it deserves like two million stars
I'm going to buy it
Wodheila @ Sep 26th 2008 8:56AM
But even better....
GoVegan @ Sep 26th 2008 8:58AM
Hey Robert, your mother is calling you!
By the way there is something important I'd like to discuss with you later son. A father to son story if you know what I mean.
From,
Your Dad.
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 26th 2008 9:05AM
Oh man, how sweet would this be in a boring lecture?! Wonder what the range on that thing is...
Temple @ Sep 26th 2008 9:06AM
I want. Where can I buy it and how much?
Mark @ Sep 26th 2008 9:27AM
You can't buy it, it was homemade. You might be able to get a metalworking shop to make the parts, but then you'd have to find someone to weld it together. The website has two PDFs you can download that have plans, but they appear to possibly be missing some parts: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fyappaps3.blog.shinobi.jp%2FEntry%2F48%2F&sl=ja&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
otomoton @ Sep 26th 2008 1:03PM
Assuming one could get the pdf blueprints downloaded this could easily (and cheaply) be made out of plexi. Kudos to this guy for working out the hard parts.
Rubber Band @ Sep 26th 2008 9:17AM
Absolutely Ridiculous!!!! (But I love it)
avester @ Sep 26th 2008 9:18AM
Reloading like this, it's a revoltion!
avester @ Sep 26th 2008 9:19AM
Firefox spellchecker, I curse you to the lowest floor of hell.
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 26th 2008 9:34AM
Yeah, what's up with that? I noticed my Firefox spell checker has been worse lately, perhaps with this latest version?
dervheid @ Sep 26th 2008 9:34AM
I know this sounds patronising (it's intended to be), but maybe you should try READING your comment BEFORE you post!
Or is that too complicated for you?
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 26th 2008 9:36AM
To be honest, if I had read over his post quickly I may not have picked up that small typo, so you can't really say that. The spell checker should work, otherwise it shouldn't even be there.
allislost @ Sep 26th 2008 9:46AM
I uss firfox tou adn thre's nohing wong wth thee speel chckr.
icepop4who @ Sep 26th 2008 10:40AM
@allislost
i hardly think you passed kindergarden, so forget knowing how to use a spellchecker
mrrookie @ Sep 26th 2008 11:19AM
Fuck spell checkers, learn you engrish, prease!
Californian @ Sep 27th 2008 1:25PM
LOL. And I mean that.
Anyway, Chrome's spellchecker is great.
Google Chrome FTW!!!
Oh, maybe not. It said I spelled "spellchecker" and LOL and FTW all incorrectly.
Hey better too many than to few!
brian @ Sep 26th 2008 9:30AM
Non-lethal might be a stretch. One good smack from that might leave more than just a welt.
AnyKey @ Sep 26th 2008 10:30AM
OUCH. My pride!
LarryLarryLarry @ Sep 26th 2008 10:41PM
I actually feel sorry for Japanese people because they mostly can't own real guns. They have very sophisticated toy guns, but everyone should be able to shoot a real pistol in a safe setting. We're grown-ups, we want the real thing, not toys.
Karl Hackswell @ Sep 26th 2008 9:31AM
I like this, this is sick! Forget all the haters, you have a solid metal rubber band gun, hahaha.
Fed @ Sep 26th 2008 9:41AM
I could kick some serious cube war ass with this thing.
LaughingMan @ Sep 26th 2008 10:00AM
Cool gun, but I fail to see how it has anything to do with Metal Gear Solid.
That part of the post makes no sense to me. Snake's chosen pistol in MGS4 was an M1911 Operator. Could you guys be thinking of a different game?
Mike @ Sep 26th 2008 10:27AM
How about the fact that it's made of metal and uses a gear?
tetravus2001 @ Sep 27th 2008 2:15AM
plus it looks pretty solid...
Raphael Salgado @ Sep 26th 2008 10:28AM
If anything, this would make a killer movie prop for a sci-fi flick.

i love the way they used a chair to get the "revolving around the gun" kind of look.
lmao.
Jazzer @ Sep 26th 2008 11:35AM
Truly a thing of beauty.....
Great work!
BigD145 @ Sep 26th 2008 11:41AM
It looks like a Lawgiver.
Tray-J @ Sep 26th 2008 11:52AM
it is a thing of beauty I wonder were they sell it and how much it costs?
Jon Doe. @ Sep 26th 2008 12:04PM
This needs to be featured in Lethal Weapon 5: Geriatrics Division.
*In the cptns office.*
Captain: Sorry riggs. You can't have a gun.
Riggs: Like hell *cough..cough* *holds up a finger* Stairs.... Like hell I can't. You give me a gun or I'll get one out of evidence.
Captain: Fine. Here. *throws the RBG on the table*. This is all the slack I'm cutting you Riggs!
Riggs: Sweet..wait...this thing fires rubber bands. What the hell?
Captain: Its that or nothing. The last thing we need is you suing us because you broke your hip while firing a Magnum.
Riggs: *grumbles as he leaves the office* What the hell am I expected to do with this thing...welt someone to death with it?
And there needs to be a matrix like scene in the movie where some martial arts master ducks and weaves around the rubber bands.
Where a young officer is freaking out "He's just weaving through the bands man! Game over man! Game over" Not yet son, not yet. *Riggs pulls out the minigun rubber band gun* http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/16/meet-the-disintegrator-24-barrels-of-rubber-band-minigun-madnes/
igotnolegs @ Sep 26th 2008 12:25PM
Was this weapon made pre-System?
eric @ Sep 26th 2008 12:37PM
I bet it would get YOU killed if you pointed it at someone with a gun...
Juaquin @ Sep 26th 2008 1:15PM
The laser and flashlight combo appears to be this stylus/pen (or similar): http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.849
spam_free @ Sep 26th 2008 2:36PM
That's some high quality engineering. Would be great if it gets picked up by a toy manufacturer so we can all share the fun, assuming it won't be "mistaken" for a real firearm on the mean streets of the US.
Andrew @ Sep 26th 2008 2:42PM
Where can i get this
Poom @ Sep 26th 2008 5:37PM
OMG This is so badass. Where can I buy it??
