We must say, we didn't really expect
Samsung's P270 to get official in this manner, but we'll take what we can get. Nanoradio has today unveiled that its "Always On WiFi" solution has been "commercially launched inside the world's first 3G
UMA phone." The tech was already available in the 2.5G
P250, but its inclusion in the 3G-capable P270 makes it a world's first. For those unaware, this creates a dual-mode cellular / WiFi mobile which doesn't require WiFi to be toggled on or off in order to save battery life. Sadly, that's about it for details, but hopefully Sammy will come along soon and flesh things out.
Oh, I'm so wanting to dig this.
Yeah, not that tough in this post
hopefully it'll have aws, and hsdpa
Why are comments allowed everywhere except for Ross Rubin's articles? Is it because he can't stand people pointing out he's factually incorrect?????
WiFi that is always on and doesn't kill battery? Are you kidding me?! WANT!!!
This is pretty sweet, I can't wait until 3g or WiMax speeds and coverage are better, if not the same as 802.11N wiif, that way we can just use our laptops/mobile devices anywhere at the same speed as wifi and not have to buy any aircards, just use a built kin one that would replace wifi receivers. I bet 10-15 years down the road, people will be like "I remember having to find coffee shops and stores to find internet, now it's just everywhere". Then we won't even need wifi chipsets in the few phones that have them, saving battery life (even though this method saves battery life too) but also saving space. So yes, I want the death of Wi-Fi to be the introduction of Wimax or some newfangled 4g tech that wouldn't have monthly fees associated with it, like the free OTA TV channels.
Nice. Waiting to see it in netbooks....
