Panasonic's Lumix DMC-G1 tentatively priced for USers at $799
Take this with a pinch of NaCl, but Adorama has it that Panasonic's Yasunori Takase confessed to a US price tag on the newly unveiled Lumix DMC-G1. During a leisurely chat at Photokina, the higher-up noted that the Micro Four Thirds camera would hit US soil for $799, though he didn't bother to mention an expected ship date. If you'll recall, we found that the G1 would start shipping at the tail end of October for ¥80,000 (around $750); considering that, we'd say $799 sounds about right over on this side of the world.

Ugh! Please next time hire one of those clueless sexy female models...
ha... this guy looks like he was just in a plane crash...
george takei says, "oh my!"
A monkey would have been cuter. At least the hair would have looked better with it.
"Complete with free bag of weed."
USers?
As opposed to the vague term Americans.
Its a new camera from lumix and Ikea, Dude stayed up all night to put it together.
Whats the fascination with G1 these days? First the phone, then the camera... whats next?
Damn man, cant you put just a picture of the camera. The post doesn't NEED to show who the heck the guy is.
Looks like he took a toke of the "stickie green".
His knuckles disgust me.
HERRO HAIRY FINGERS
yeah, definitely the hairiest Asian dude i've ever seen (i'm Asian, so this comment is now politically correct).
not an SLR = not interested. Maybe SLR's are getting old fashioned, but there's still a lot more resolution that the eye can see through a pure line of sight through the optics than through electronics and a tv screen.
You can buy an older Rebel for this price, which most likely still will have less noise @ higher ISO's.
I just don't see a market. Too expensive for noobs, and too toy-like for professionals.
you could buy a sony a200/300/350 w/ extra lenses, an out of date rebel with maybe 1 extra lens, nikon d40/60+lenses, anything olympus makes basically and then the middle range pentax slr... all of which have bigger sensors which = better high iso performance and usually IQ. this camera's pricepoint is pure fail unless you absolutely need the form factor.
um...so you have seen the G1's pictures already? can you tell me where?
I would REALLY love to see the noise on the G1...
You've clearly never had to lug multiple cameras long distances on foot over rough terrain where mechanical components can easly be damaged.
This camera would likely be easier to manual focus, given the screen will yield better resolution than the tiny OVF on many entry-level DSLRS. Still, 800 bucks is a bit steep for what this one does, especially when they essentially said they will have a model with video recording capability by some time next year, I will just hold out for that.
@ mrpoo:
Did you seriously just say that an electronic screen is better than an optical viewfinder (OVF)? Because if you did, your 'opinion' is every bit as good as your name. Optical beats electronic hands down, every time, end of story if you're talking about focusing, realtime composition, or really anything that photographers care about.
Have a clue before you post things that are completely wrong.
You obviously have not been reading up on the micro four-thirds. This camera has the same size sensor as DSLRs but just without the mirror mechanism, which is why they are able to make them with less depth of the camera body. It is clearly the way DSLRs should be heading and if perfected, I don't see any advantage that regular DSLRs will have over micro four-thirds. You should read up on what the DPReview guys have to say about this camera.

"Your chin looks like Robin Williams knuckles."
Or this guy's!
Looks like he was smokin' a bit too.

G is a cool letter, 1 is a cool number. You can't go wrong.
It's like motorcycle models where they keep adding X's and R's
600 wasn't enough, and even 600R wasn't enough, it's 600RR... I don't think they can pull off 600RRR, but you never know what the marketing dept says.
The coolest name is, of course, GSXR, which has all the coolest letters of the alphabet.
There was a canon g1 digital camera, like, 10 years ago. It's an ongoing thing.
So how about GSXR-1 or GSXR-100?
As opposed to the Russiaers? Or Chinaers?
This dude is a total creeper.
stupid engadget is not putting my comments where they belong... screw it
Yeah man, must be Engadget, that web-sentient computer that tries to make posters look like assholes.
Panasonic sells the Bodygroom manhair shaver. So much for communication within divisions of the company.
peter lorre called, he wants his pained, haunted expression back.
AP - September 26, 2008
A man seen carrying a camera and taking pictures of people undressing in their bedrooms was apprehended late last night. A woman who wish to not be identified just got of her shower and saw a man taking snapshots of her naked right outside her bedroom window. When the woman ran to get her husband in the living room, the man ran off. He wasn't seen until half an hour later at another residence two blocks away at another residence in the same neighborhood.
========================
This is what really happened.
he looks like he has had botox
i mean colagen lip injections... or are they the same?
I think you should try injecting some botox into your lips and tell us how that works out for you.
Are there any other Canon fan boys sorta pissed about this?
While the G series of Canon cameras may be dead soon (some theories that there will never be a G11), how could this happen?
Hyundai would never be allowed to make a GTO,,,? mumble
This is even close to the same Prosumer market as the Canon G series (although ever so slightly higher price point).
if u critically review. he seems a very nice guy and very professional. His eyes has become developed so sensitive that they have gone permanently red. Seems like human verison supercomputer for photo forensics.
Who says he is ugliest jap ever, they are all squint eyes, he is not.
