Carl Zeiss' powerdomeVELVET planetarium projector: 2,500,000:1 contrast ratio

We've seen dynamic contrast ratios on HDTVs climb as high as 2,000,000:1, but an in-house design from the famed Carl Zeiss blows that right out of the water. The powerdomeVELVET planetarium projector was obviously not designed with home cinema in mind, though the specifications are no less impressive. We've got a 2,500,000:1 contrast ratio, DLP / BrilliantColor technologies, a 1,200p native resolution and a DVI input. Not like you're actually considering one for your own domed theater, but it'll be available for a small fortune in Q1 2009.[Via DVICE]

Now that would be nice to have in the home office :D
(Given the amount of light pollution in the area it's about the only way to get some nice astronomy in )

Humm I wonder at what point you have a higher contrast on the recording you project then what you recorded on in the first place. Also wonder what that would do to the eyes... X . X
By 1200p, do you mean 1920x1200?
Actually, 1200p would be 2,133 x 1200. The aspect ratio should still be 16:9.

I was wondering it was actually 16:9 or if they were saying 1200p to refer to the 16:10 monitor res that's been oh so popular.

In one episode they went to the planetarium. The guy controlling it sent a subliminal message making them do stuff. Probably that reference he thought of.
Wow that's real cool stuff. A good planetariums hard to find in my area. Hopefully it's in a price range affordable to upgrade, or build a new one for a reasonable cost.
