Netgear launches WNR2000 / DGN2000 Wireless-N routers

Netgear, we're here to tell you it's been far, far too long since you threw any new 802.11n gear our way, so we're pretty stoked to see a few new pieces roll out today. The outfit is formally introducing the WNR2000 Wireless-N router and DGN2000 Wireless-N router with built-in DSL modem this morning, both of which boast the company's own Push 'N' Connect with Wi-Fi Protected Setup to eliminate the need to remember those pesky network security passwords. Both units are available in kit form as well, which sees a USB wireless adapter bundled in just in case your rig is operating sans an 802.11n WiFi module. Everything is available now for anywhere between $89 and $129.

Well I was waiting for a DSL modem/Router combination for a while and this would have been a very economical choice. How's Netgear's quality though, their earlier units weren't anything to fawn over

I have been using the WRG614 for almost 2 years and it has served me very well. I even picked it up used from a friend who just had to get a draft-N router, (early adopters, *sigh), and he took $25 just to get it out of his house, that was 2 years ago. Like most access points I've used, I've had it drop on me a few times, but it was nothing a reboot couldn't fix. It's range quality has been exceptional for the stuff this signal has had to pass through, over 35ft of brick walls in my house and I still have 5 bars of reception. I ordered a WNR834B from the last woot-off, and I expect it to be just as reliable, once it gets a couple of firmware updates. It's not cisco/linksys grade stuff, but it gets the job done well.

I looked around a bit, even on the Netgear website and couldn't find out how many or what speed the ethernet port(s) are on this unit. I'm looking for a wireless router and would like 1000 mbit lan on it and all b/g wireless routers I've seen only have 100 mbit lan. So depending on what ports this has it could be a winner for me, especially prices wise.

From the looks of things, the router has 4 Ethernet ports judging from the 1 2 3 4 glowing lights
I'm running a Netgear WPN atm and its a similar system.

With draft N, I do hope Netgear are using gigabit ethernet ports.

Thanks, I've been out of it all day and didn't notice or think about the numbered lights. I would also hope it's 1000 mbit. Hopefully this thing gets good reviews then I'll pick on up for next semester. Seen em around for 70$ at some sites which would make getting a g/b wireless router and 1000 mbit switch not worth it.

Well after some real digging I've read it only have 4x 10/100 mbit ports. That is very disappointing, so now I know why it's so cheap.

yeah, ummm.......what about 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz info? Does it do both? At the same time? That's about the only interesting development in "draft" N that I'm even remotely interested in. That and available bandwidth under all kinds of loads, combinations of connections, etc..
Oh yeah, and gigabit ethernet connections would be nice too.

Netgear's site says it's only 2.4 but they're advertising it as the fastest since it has gigabit ethernet.

Unfortunately pretty much all routers have been unreliable for me.
I've tried linksys, D-link and many others. So far i've had two linksys routers die on me. One of them after just one month of use.
I now have a Netgear router and it seems to work very well. Hopefully it will last.
In the 5 months i've had it, i've had to reset it once because my old Ibook wouldn't connect to it, yet my PC would.

Strangely enough, all the cheap Belkin routers i've used have been very good. Don't know how that's possible, but it is.

I've had 2 netgear routers..both choke like a bitch when rapid multiple connection attempts are issued (Torrents, refreshing server browsers in online games ala team fortress 2). I'll pass for a while.

wanna buy my Netgear WNR854T gigabit wireless (draft) N router?
It is a POS. Was finally going to throw it out a week ago when I found a firmware update on the website (the update function wasn't working). Still didn't fix things though. Drops connections, chokes and fails to automatically renew the lease with the ISP. And the blue LED is too bright.

Please people...do not buy these netgear routers. I had 2 previous models and they were both crap. Unreliable and requiring reboots every time you make 1 little change. Not worth it, I got a dlink and I haven't had the same problems since.

I have had this router for 3 weeks now, and I must say it is great. My old router was disconnecting a lot, so I decided to replace it. This router can transmit to my laptop (draft n) at my full cable modem bandwidth of 6Mb (and that was in the half 145 Mb mode not the full 300 Mb mode) . My old Netgear 624 (g wireless router) only managed 600 Kb. Netgear said it was up to 15 times faster than a g wireless router, and mine was a least 10 times faster. Based on my configuration, I was expecting 3 to 7 times faster. I am not sure how much faster it was since I maxed out my internet connection.

I was also worried about the lack of Gigabit ports, however, the throughput of a 100Mb port will more than handle all of the capacity of my interent connection and handle streaming HD, so I don't see it as an issue - Yet. It might be later, but by then it will probably be time for a new router

Very unimpressed with DGN2000.

Wizard setup won't work at all. Manual setup intuitive but the unit flashes red lights off and on, needed resets and reboot and switch off/on several times.

Runs HOT.

Simply will not connect if WPA password > 40digits ASCI used.

Utterly tedious and wish I'd not bought it. Either this is a lousy modem in general OR there is poor quality control. We should not have to put up with this nonsense.

As for data transmission - after HOURS to get to incomplete setup, no idea.
