Potential new TiVo user interface shown on video
We know, you're still digesting the whole Nero LiquidTV / TiVo PC introduction, but once you get through your head that said product brings TiVo functionality to your PC, we'd like you to have a look at something only mildly related. In the best form possible (that'd be video, for those curious), a walkthrough of a potential new user interface for TiVo as a whole has been hosted up. According to the lucky soul who was able to grab this information from a recent survey, there's no telling if it'll ever actually be released. 'Course, we highly doubt TiVo pays its engineers to cook up new software for nothing, but we've heard of zanier scenarios. Check out three UI vids after the break, and be sure to look carefully for the oh-so-subtle differences.

Awesome. =]

If Tivo makes a menu like this, they better store the content locally because their remote programs are soooooo slow and bandwidth sensitive.

I agree that they will have issues with this type of system on their current hardware. Unless they came up with a way to SIGNIFICANTLY improve the responsiveness, there is no way it's going to run this smooth. It's already quite choppy the way it's currently run and there isn't nearly as much animated menus as this, much less running a video on the same page.

Agree, I love how this looks. But all previous attempts by TiVo to make dynamic content have resulted in really slow response times.

Looking fine, 99!

Looks like an UI designer at Tivo found out about XBMC skins like Aeon and Mediastream and had an epiphany.
Blackstar @ Sep 29th 2008 6:43AM
Yeah, I second that. But why are there 3 videos showing the same clip though?
Jash Sayani @ Sep 29th 2008 2:44AM
Nice. Feels like a tweaked Windows Media Center interface with film-strip on the top.
Dartmerc @ Sep 29th 2008 4:57AM
hmm.. looks like they are fond of the PSN colour theme.

Nero LiquidTV / TiVo PC. It seems that some companies actually use their products over and over again and understands what's need to really take it to the next level. This TiVo product does that.

Looks like the "My shows" menu enables 'accounts'.
Now my roommates won't see my horrible Gossip Girl tendencies.
Kevin @ Sep 29th 2008 2:26PM
I saw that too. I would love the addition of "accounts" or users. Would be nice to hit delete after I watch a show and then when my roommate watches it he can delete it later. Solves the issue of shows remaining on the box for weeks before we both sit down and delete them.

Had to take down the original post at request of TiVo, oh well. Thanks for the credit though.

Anyone else notice in the second video while browsing movie titles the screen clearly shows Amazon, Blockbuster, AND Netflix? Is this some indication that Tivo will be introducing streaming Netflix in the next software update?
Kevin @ Sep 29th 2008 2:26PM
I saw that, I wonder how much of this is just a pipedream for developers though. It would be very cool.
Todd @ Sep 29th 2008 9:48AM
I saw Netflix HD movie streaming on the second vid.
John @ Sep 29th 2008 10:19AM
wow, this looks awesome! They have needed an update for some time now. I love my tivo, but its a bit outdated now. Hopefully this will roll out for the Tivo HDs. I dont want to buy a new tivo for this software. I allready spent enough money on tivos.

52 seconds through the second video; how the hell is 'Mean Girls' related to 'Blades Of Glory'?

"52 seconds through the second video; how the hell is 'Mean Girls' related to 'Blades Of Glory'?"
Both comedies by SNL alums.

Tivo, you release that interface on a new "Series 4", and I'M SOLD.
That's WAY nicer than the horrible Comcast Motorola DVR interface, and yet quite an upgrade to the current Tivo interface.
Kevin @ Sep 29th 2008 2:28PM
This looks like too much animation and data for the current TiVos to handle, even the S3s. I wonder if this will only be used on the new Series 4 models?
