SuperGrafx game queued up for release on Japanese Wii Virtual Console
Retro game lovers, don't ever say Nintendo isn't looking out for you. Only months after hearing that the Wii's Virtual Console would be getting Sega Master System and Commodore 64 games, in flies word that at least one heralded SuperGrafx title is on its way, too. Granted, the Ghouls 'n Ghosts (or Daimakaimura, as it were) port is only slated for release in Japan at the moment, but we're keeping our increasingly less limber fingers crossed that it'll head to other parts of the world in short order. There's also no telling if any other titles from the console's library will be headed to the Wii, but given that we could count 'em all on two hands, we'd say chances are decently high.

you could wait for who know how long until they have this ready for your console, or you could install the homebrew channel and have it today...
phrogg @ Sep 29th 2008 5:04AM
Or, you could hop on GameTap and play it free, too.
Plothole @ Sep 29th 2008 5:32AM
That is exactly why the console makers are against homebrew. Now you can argue that there are legal uses to, but unfortunately these "sour apples" spoil it for everyone.

Super NES' Ghouls and Ghosts was the hardest game I've ever played. Harder than Contra: Shattered Soldier.
God forbid you made it to the end without figuring out where the enchanted bracelet was.

Exactly who is the sour apple here? We are being sold games that are 10-24 years old, and not for spare change. Not to mention, there aren't many alternatives to play on this shiny 250$ "gaming" machine.
RyanMaier@mts.net @ Sep 29th 2008 11:33AM
Based on the tone of your post, sounds like you are the sour one. Is anyone MAKING you pay for these titles if you don't want them? If you think the price is unreasonable, don't pay it. Also, myself, and many of my friends, have "many alternatives to play on this shiny 250$ "gaming" machine." If you're lacking in something to play, we can lend you something.

@yhd
It doesn't matter how old a game is. Do you walk into movie stores and expect them to give you their old titles for free?
As long as the IP rights are still owned by someone, they are perfectly in their rights to ask money for it.
Tonicboy @ Sep 29th 2008 5:43AM
Can you really call Ghouls 'n Ghosts a SuperGrafx title when it was originally developed by Capcom as an arcade game and has appeared in some form on just about every platform including arcade, NES, SNES, Genesis, PSX, PS2, PSP, Xbox and even Commodore 64 fercrissakes?
Dougal @ Sep 29th 2008 9:01AM
Erm.. the article isn't saying Ghouls 'n' Ghosts was just a SuperGrafx title, it's saying that the SuperGrafx version is coming to the Japanese Virtual Console.
ChuChu @ Sep 29th 2008 11:33AM
I specifically remember lusting after this system and title back in the day. It was a much better port than any of the other attempts at the time and considered to be pretty bleeding edge tech. It was also quite expensive which put it out of most gamers reaches.

I loved Ghouls & Ghosts, never managed to complete it though! >.<
Still got it lying around somewhere for my Megadrive (Genesis)! Don't have a Wii - but hey, who needs it for G&G when you got the original?

good thing my supergrafx still works!

M.A.M.E. is better
"Insert Coin"
Ghouls 'n Ghosts was easy...
Ghosts 'n Gobblins was one of the hardest games ever... right up there with Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde
ChuChu @ Sep 29th 2008 11:35AM
I buddy of mine used to work as an arcade operator many moons ago and his claim to fame was he could finish Ghosts n Goblins on a single quarter. What can I say, I was impressed.
David @ Sep 29th 2008 8:26AM
Ah way to get more customers. Offer then one of the hardest games ever made and hope to shift some units ;)
I still remember eagerly putting SGnG in my GBA SP for the first time and then crying at how frikkin hard it was
Plothole @ Sep 29th 2008 8:59AM
I think Nintendo is hedging their bets that there are at least a few true hardcore gamers left in existence, at least in Japan. (hardcore as in cranking the difficulty up to 11, not gamers that think playing GTA or Halo makes you hardcore)

that knight is clearly getting the fear and loathing
