LG introduces "attractively-priced" KP500, doesn't say how attractive
Got touchscreen envy but don't have the pair of Benjamins required to get yourself into a celly without a keypad? LG has a solution: the KP500, a nearly button-less and stylus-bearing handset that sounds rather like another recent cheap smartphone. LG's not giving many details about this one beyond its 3-inch display, a 3 megapixel camera, motion sensor, and availability in black, brown, silver, or gold (though based on the pic above we'd stay away from that last one). There's a short video of the TouchFLO-like UI to whet your appetite just below, but that's all we have to share until this phone hits Europe in a month, with a worldwide release to come afterward.

Bloody hell, cant companies stick to one good design and IMPROVE on it instead of releasing mediocrity again and again simply in a different shell.
This is one good reason why the iPhone is so popular and LG and Samsung competitors are not.
Adderz @ Sep 30th 2008 9:29AM
Now i know its cool to hate the iPhone, ive noticed any comment with the word "iPhone" is automatically low ranked. So feel free, its up on the right.
Im just glad i own a HTC device. They make GOOD devices. I will never buy a LG or Samsung.
GON @ Sep 30th 2008 9:30AM
I get where you're coming from, but this device hasn't even been released yet. There hasn't even been a hands-on yet. So, no one knows how good or bad the thing is. It's just like what happened with the X-1.
Zop @ Sep 30th 2008 9:43AM
That last sentence dosen't really make sense.
Adderz @ Sep 30th 2008 10:02AM
YOu mean this?
"This is one good reason why the iPhone is so popular and LG and Samsung competitors are not"
It means the IPhone is almost globally known, where as its competitors the Instinct, Viewty, Omnia, KP500, Pixon etc etc etc are NOT. The iPhone does so well because its one phone and even people who arent technologically minded will know about it.

This is the same ideas than run rampant in american car companies, instead of having a small modle base and reliable quality, they (GM, Ford, Chrystler, Kia...
They release a model, then 3 months later, bail out and instead of addressing the issues they go out and design a new car, even though they are swimming in FAIL and the only thing keeping them afloat is drunk drivers and rental car fleets...

@Adderz
Well so many people know about the iPhone because it currently has the best marketing I have seen for a phone.
I mean i have never seen so many billboards with a phone on them as those with iPhones.
tackauk @ Oct 1st 2008 5:40PM
personally i think the iphone is rubbish have had version 1 and 2 and got rid of both in favor of omnia
GON @ Sep 30th 2008 9:27AM
Kinda looks like the Omnia. I like how the Touch-Flo like ui is nice and colorful. Is this also running Windows Mobile, or a proprietary os?
chrisaroz @ Sep 30th 2008 9:47AM
I don't know, those gadgets look pretty attractive. $99 and they could probably move alot of these suckers.
w4rh34rt @ Sep 30th 2008 9:55AM
Haha, it doesn't look to bad for someone who wants a alright looking phone just for the usual talking and texting and taking a picture or two.
Remember, not everyone needs a fuilly loaded smart-phone ^_^
holycow @ Sep 30th 2008 10:11AM

Last time i checked Nokia, Samsung and Moto make up by far most of the phones sold in every segment. Nokia is one of world most googled words and belongs to top 5 brands globally. In Europe mobile phone=Nokia
As Samsung and Nokia controls 60% of the market i'm sure there's couple non tech minded :D
asg84 @ Sep 30th 2008 11:36AM
not only in europe in nokia dominates in asia too, with above 50% market share in most countries,
and some south east asian countries like india , sri lanka having above 75% share
Richard Lai @ Sep 30th 2008 11:14AM
"attractively-priced" for LG, perhaps? Nevertheless, the device and UI does look good from here.
BdgBill @ Sep 30th 2008 11:22AM
I have the opposite of touchscreen envy. I want to pick up a new phone while I can still get one with a keypad.
I don't know if I have calloused fingers or messed up body chemistry but touchscreen devices almost never work properly for me.
asg84 @ Sep 30th 2008 11:32AM
this phone looks good, but i will wait till october 2nd for the official release of nokia tube.
according to some websites its price is $500. t
okapi @ Sep 30th 2008 11:37AM
if you put a small screen behind a big piece of glass no one will notice.
Karma_prisoner @ Sep 30th 2008 2:04PM
Personally speaking i did not like the iphone so much, i can never figure out what is all the fuss about
i definately like the multi touch thing, i think it has good future.
not a apple fan!
but the way things are here i see apple to be the new microsoft
just everyone loves to hate them and many more love to hate "those who hate them"!
j3k4 @ Sep 30th 2008 6:22PM
I'd buy this over iPhone anyday
