9-Cell MSI Wind battery turns up in pictures, dreams

It looks like those DIY 9-cell Wind batteries could soon be a thing of the past, as some seemingly legit pictures of a supposedly official 9-cell battery for the netbook have now turned up on the Eee PC News website. Apparently, the pictures (more of which are available at the link below) came straight from an unnamed battery manufacturer and, yes, it's still in prototype form, which hopefully means there's still some refining to be done. There's no indication of a release date, unfortunately, but Eee PC News seems confident, for one reason or another, that the batteries could find their way into Winds as soon as November.

in that picture is there some sort of clear plastic cover on the back of the netbook?cause if not it looks even more cheap and plasticy that i originally though, its quite disgusting looking.
ps. was playing with the acer one netbook (linux) at currys (big consumer electronics company for those that dont know) and thought it was brilliant, IT HAS TETRIS, i thought the trackpad was really good and seemed very well made, i will get it for my mum

The manufacturer is Mugen Power, also known as Fattafa, and their website is http://www.mugenpowerbatteries.com
There is a thread at http://forums.msiwind.net/external-devices/mugen-power-produce-3rd-party-battery-for-wind-poll-t2369.html that discusses the new 9 cell battery and there are many posts by Mark from Lion Battery (http://www.lionbattery.com), who are the North American distributors of Mugen batteries. Currently the release date is supposed to be sometime in October and the *target* price is US$120-140 as far as I know.

OK packing this in the wind really makes me start pacing until christmas (if they could throw this in the gigabyte tablet,it would slice off one of it's biggest complaints, they just need whatever company doing these to ramp up as much as they can)
Yeah I know I keep drooling over that tablet, I guess I'm hoping someone who can do something will read these..sue me

I can customize your MSI to look as dirty as that. I charge $75.
It's made to look like you are a CIA agent and your netbook has been through a few blasts.
I can also make it look like the netbook has been shot with a gun, and instead of buying a new netbook, you just decided to replace the screen. That's $25 extra for each bullet hole.

Your dreams never look like prototypes, rofl @ everyone...

Wouldn't these defeat the purpose of having a lightweight, ultra-portable? Unless they can make the 9 cell atleast the same weight/size as a 6 cell.
Chin-Poh @ Oct 2nd 2008 11:29PM
It does look quite ugly, the battery life had better be 6 hours or better to warrant its price and looks.
Ayle @ Oct 3rd 2008 12:56AM
You already get 6 hrs with the regular 6-cell...
jerome @ Oct 3rd 2008 1:48AM
if MSI can pack in 9-cells into that battery form factor, how come HP can only come up with 6-cells with the same form factor on the mininote? also, i would love to see real-world benchmarks on the battery life. I can only squeeze in around 4hrs on my mininote with 6-cells.
