Acer's wild
Aspire Predator gaming rig and matching
24-inch G24 monitor were announced back in May and July, but it's taken them forever to ship Stateside -- we're guessing the delay was due to Acer's insistence that the case look as much like a ski binding as physically possible. Specs are basically the same as the
preview systems we've
seen: the low-end $1,649 config has a liquid-cooled 2.5GHz Q9300 Core 2 Quad, GeForce 9600GT graphics, 4GB RAM and dual 640GB drives, while the $2,199 edition bumps things up to a 2.83GHz Q9550 Core 2 Quad, GeForce 9800GTX graphics, and three 640GB drives. Nothing's changed with the $399 G24, either -- it's still a 2ms 1920 x 1200 LCD with a 160-degree viewing angle, a 50,000:1 contrast ratio, and a bright orange bezel. It's all available now -- check a sneak peek after the break.

Will it transform and attempt to shoot me with capacitors?
holycow @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:51AM
That's exactly what i was thinking... they shouldve made it yellow and black (bumble bee colours) and put a transformers sign on it, then it would sell like hotcakes!
Kash @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:14AM
you know what i dont get.. why is it that.. the pc's in the US are soooo much cheaper.. i mean im here stuck in OZ [downunder/australia what ever u want to call it] and they're selling it here starting at $4500.. and the base specs are crappier that what you guys get... i jus don get it.. y cant they just make a universal model..
*wishing i was in the US right now*
maveric101 @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:39AM
@ Kash
just build your own. even if the comp is cheaper in the US, you can still save a lot by building.
jcmmarotta @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:11AM

Whoa I am waiting for it to go in to stealth mode and hunt me like it did Arnold in the woods...

Mr.Stick @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:19AM
well thats pretty BA and cheap! but I think that the voodoo omen is the only tower I want in the immediate future.
Striker @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:20AM
Can I has monitor? I guess I better start saving lol.
Josh Warner @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:52AM
2ms response and only 160º viewing angle means this is a TN type panel. Yeah it's fast, but in all likelihood only displays 6-bit color (interpolates the rest). You should be able to get a low- to mid-range PVA panel for that price; people that buy that screen are getting suckered by the shiny case.
Striker @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:14AM
What monitor would you suggest that I get that would be similar or less in price?
Ebel3003 @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:23AM
I wonder if that monitor comes in black.
Rogue_Genius @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:37AM
negative ghostrider, that pattern is full.
Ryan @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:25AM
that is so sexy. I got me a boner
Striker @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:28AM
I believe that that would definitely constitute a problem. Go see a doctor, now.
Levi @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:35AM
well, that's only if I lasts more than 6 hours
Striker @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:38AM
Yes that would be a problem, but the fact that he got one from looking at a picture of a computer is a problem as well.
linuxamp @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:33AM
I'll wait for the gunmetal Megatron one.
Striker @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:36AM
I think I would find it just as distracting as any other color, the design on that thing is freakin' sweet. I'm totally going to get this monitor, and I don't know how I will keep my eyes on the screen lol.
Striker @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:37AM
Damn comment system, replied to the wrong person. This one was to you, Alex Vail.
Alex Vail @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:33AM
The burning question.. why?
Also, wouldn't the orange bezel be kind of distracting when trying to look at the monitor?
wootman @ Oct 2nd 2008 6:10PM
mmm wipeoutey.
AJC @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:34AM
Cool color
Mike @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:56AM
I like it because it's understated.
Nietzche @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:39AM
While that is a great looking case as a piece of design, I kinda think it goes a bit too far for just a computer..
Call me old fashioned but less is more I.M.O
Besides, with a case that fancy, you wouldn't dare bring it anywhere, although I guess the same could also be said of the price :P
al jolson @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:46AM
Where do you pour the gasoline?
Cal @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:48AM
Ugly, overpriced and badly specced, and just a couple of months before Nehalem...
Ryan @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:57AM
This monitor was on newegg the other day? i was going to purchase it because of the contrast ratio, response time, and size. I decided not too because it was orange. I just went and checked newegg and its not listed on the site any more???
Tehcwriter @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:23AM
Nice monitor.......
looks like it will Transform into some kind of monster.......

Picviewer @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:31AM
Yeesh haven't seen that case in years. Sold some people on that or a similar one probably 4 years ago now for a few lan builds they were doing. Hinges were buggy and cheap so maybe they've improved since then.
TareX @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:38AM
The gap between desktop and laptop gaming is narrowing.
For only $800 more, you can get a DUAL SLI 9800GTX on a Quad-core 2.8Ghz NP9262 Sager notebook with all the other highest-end specs.
And without the dual 9800GTX, it's like $100-$120 more.
Zelstrom @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:16AM
9800GTXs are obsolete, I don't under why they would be used at all. A single 4870 X2 is much, much faster and is $550ish.
TareX @ Oct 2nd 2008 10:14AM
Is it available for laptops like the Dual 9800 GTX?
Zelstrom @ Oct 3rd 2008 10:10AM
Erm no, my point was that obsolete video cards for ONLY $800 doesn't = "The gap between desktop and laptop gaming is narrowing". That laptop couldn't touch a current high end PC with that setup and it costs tons more, not a good combo.
wootman @ Oct 2nd 2008 6:11PM
yeah, ONLY 800 dollars.
TareX @ Oct 2nd 2008 6:44PM
No wootman you genius. For ONLY $100 you can get the same configuration on a laptop.
For $700-$800 you get an EXTRA 9800GTX for SLI.

A Predator Lurks in the shadow! (Rating - 5 stars)
Positive
and Black Birds, Aliens and XPS's are all on the cafe Pwnage menu! Since announced, I spent months trying to get an early version of this case (even tried to import), with no luck. So I decided to jump on it when the whole shebang showed up at a favorite etailer 2 weeks ago. I always build my own and really just wanted the case (past works - http://www.eternal-champions.com/images/ldm_master_builder!.jpg). I just got tired of the “visual cacophony”
Frankenstein Black @ Oct 2nd 2008 10:09AM
