Hitachi demonstrates wireless HD camcorder transfer at CEATEC
If you're still in disbelief that wireless HD is finally catching on, here's yet another demonstration that just may sway you into being a believer. Hitachi demonstrated a wireless HD camcorder setup at CEATEC in Japan, which saw a hacked up handycam get fitted with a protruding wireless card and stream high-def content to a nearby TV via DLNA (got all that?). Obviously, there's no telling when or if the company will clean the application up and bring it to retail, but in all seriousness, we have our doubts about the value proposition here.

I guess this is like an upgraded version of the eye fi. I wonder how well it will transfer the data and how far the range is.

that... is... really cool. can it be ripped wirelessly with a computer? would be pretty sweet to have a video camera that records to nearby computer... or does it do that too?

That raises the possibility of all sorts of nifty applications. My dream would be to have a camera that doesn't record to any traditional media, but streams the video wirelessly. Then, you choose what media you want to receive it, whether it's a DV deck, a DVD recorder, a dedicated external hard drive, or a computer. Maybe more than one thing for redundancy?

haha..so basically remote "pron" in HD? Can do it do a direct upload to RedTube? or direct stream to my Iphone?

In HD too!!!
The first PC maker that will market a wireless hard drive able to stream HD data to multiple screen will count me among its faithful costumers, maybe even if it's gonna be Apple.

"we have our doubts"
Who exactly is this "we"? the royal we perhaps?
reporting the facts will give you some credibility and minimize the number who simply tune out..

Hitachi the biggest electronic company in the world!! Probably the best tech brand, they even produce auto parts, Hitachi Inspire the Next!!! =)
I need that camera.

And here is your value proposition. Just on the camera side you get
* lighter, smaller and more durable (well, SSD would also do this) HD cams
* more continuous recording capacity
* no need to transfer the material from the camera to the target device
Sure, it probably won't sound much of a deal for shooting the family vacation videos in Florida.

Jesus Pete,
SiBeam has been at this for better than 5 years.
Is this as far as we have progressed?
A kludge with a dongle on the side of it!
Christ, when are we gonna see a retail product?
Get with it boys.
