KDDI shows off Samsung-made 3.1-inch WVGA OLED display, 3D LCD panel

It's been almost a full year since Samsung first announced its plans for a 3-inch WVGA OLED panel, but it's now finally delivered, and found a partner in the form of KDDI, which was showing off the panel at CEATEC. As Tech-On notes, the panel is quite the upgrade over Samsung's current top-end 3-inch QVGA panel and, best of all, KDDI says that it'll be showing up in actual products "shortly," though it's not about to get any more specific than that. As if that wasn't enough, KDDI also had a new "3D LCD" panel built by an unnamed "Japanese panel manufacturer" on hand at the show. It boasts the same WVGA resolution as the OLED and employs a "parallax barrier method" to magically "convert 2D images into 3D in real time -- check that out after the break, and look for the panels to be productized by the end of 2009.

wvga? that's 848×480px and quite admirable... hell... that'll be enough for a decent round of crysis. Deathmatch anyone?
800x480? Or 848x480? Which is WVGA?
854x480 (for 16 by 9)
not sure where 848 came from :P
actually it can be a range of numbers but most commonly, especially with PDAs and cellphones, its 800x480, as seen on N810, SEXperia X1, Archos 5, and Touch HD
But, will we need those funky 3D glasses?
The parallax barrier method is supposed to create 3D w/o special glasses.
Why the heck they take 2D pictures of 3D displays, I'm not sure. You can't reproduce the image like it's supposed to look.
No, this type of display shows two different images at the same time, directed respectively to your eyes by prisms. Much like stereograms, but it will not make you cross-eyed. It works pretty ok, but its not perfect.
I hope so.
Nope.

I've seen one of those 2D-to-3D screens... They make you go dizzy like hell...
They make me PUKE MY GUTS OUT. Those screens ^.^
Lets hope Sammy puts these OLED screens in world-wide phones in 2009, not only Japan phones.
Now now now, you and I both know that we won't see this till after 2015.
According to the Samsung roadmap http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/29/samsung-lays-out-oled-roadmap/
we should see OLED laptops and displays this year.
This doesn't suck.
Hopefully Organic LED could fly this time....... Heard of it a few years, but only limited products with OLED in the market for now.
The 3D image look like a bit of dizzy, hopefully no need wear 3d-spec just to look at your mobile phone screen... LOL
