T-Mobile still taking G1 pre-orders, but you won't get it on October 22
So the good news is that T-Mobile has decided to keep right on taking pre-orders for the G1 through October 21, just one day before the handset's official launch. The bad news, though, is that it doesn't mean you'll be getting your Android on come October 22. Turns out that the initial allotment of G1s set aside for pre-orders is now sold out completely, and any names taken between now and launch will be allotted phones being shipped "at a later date." It's not clear if a "later date" means a week, a month, or a decade after the 22nd, but for the sake of everyone involved, we hope its the former.Update: T-Mobile's site says that pre-orders taken from here on out will be delivered "as early as November 10," so it looks like you early birds are going to have a nice little period of exclusivity. Thanks, everyone!

The good news is that you can go into your T-Mobile store and still get it for $179.99. The catch? You have to be eligible for an upgrade to qualify for that price, or you'll have to pay the full $299.99.
Checkmate @ Oct 3rd 2008 8:12PM
New recieved by date is around 11/10
Matty1323 @ Oct 3rd 2008 8:49PM
Yeah I saw that too from the T MO site.
"T-Mobile customers can get a T-Mobile G1 starting at $179.99, plus taxes and fees (pricing subject to upgrade eligibility criteria: two-year agreement required). Order yours before October 21, 2008, and it will be delivered as early as November 10, 2008.* After all, as a loyal customer, you deserve to get what you want—when you want it. "
Sora @ Oct 3rd 2008 9:03PM
"..when you want it"
Oh the irony.

I bought mine at 10 am pst when the presale started, so I am there with you DE. My question is, will they be shipped on the 22nd, or will we have them on the 22nd? I am hoping that we get them on the 22nd, it is only fair after making us wait a month for them.
omegajp @ Oct 3rd 2008 9:09PM
If you read into it a bit more, it is actually being shipped on the 20th. I had the same question too--so since we have no choice but receiving UPS ground on this item, it's going to depend on where the origin of the package is to determine how long it takes for us to receive it. I think that T-Mobile ships online orders out of Texas or Kentucky. I could be complete wrong, I just thought I remembered one of these places showing up on a previous order...
Neoprimal @ Oct 4th 2008 4:17AM
I pre-ordered mine but nothing at all is showing up on the website for me. How do you confirm your pre-order? The ONLY reason I know it's in there is because I can't order another phone now, says previous upgrade is being processed or some junk.
I ordered as soon as the pre-order was available so I'm hoping I don't have to wait those dreaded 2 weeks as I'm already sweating in anxiety for the Oct. 22 release date.
omegajp @ Oct 4th 2008 7:59AM
You can call customer care (611) and they can verify the order for you. I had the same concern--I actually am ABLE to upgrade my phone still so I was worried it didn't go through--but they verified for me that the pre-order was indeed there.

I have my name first on a list at a Tmobile store in Las Vegas. From what I was told, when that store receives their shipment of G1's, everyone on the list will receive a phone call letting them know they can come pick it up and pay for it supposedly on October 22nd. Check it out.
vin @ Oct 3rd 2008 9:07PM
Customers who purchased the G1 through the pre-sale offer prior to 12 p.m. PT on October 3 are scheduled to receive their device by October 22.
Customers who purchase the G1 through the pre-sale offer after 12 p.m. PT on October 3 will receive their device on November 10.

Wow, sold pretty fast. I guess no one cared for the opinions of the people who said it was fugly. I guess there might actually be lines at 3g area T-mobile stores. Hopefully it's not too driven by hype and people actually have seen reviews of the phone before plunking down money.
fh @ Oct 4th 2008 12:09AM
A lot of people do have a mind of their own and don't listen to fanboys/trolls.
GoCarnivore @ Oct 4th 2008 7:11AM
Some of us won't bother buying this, because the G1 service isn't available in our areas. Dammit.
Did you know that Jessica Simpson is a ravenous meat-eater like the rest of us normal people?
huh @ Oct 4th 2008 10:28AM
GoCarnivore, is she not named GoCarnivore too, like the rest of us normal people?
chefgon_ign @ Oct 4th 2008 6:59PM
Why would anybody, ever, for any reason, take someone else's advice on how good a gadget LOOKS? The picture is right there on the order form for all to see, going purely by looks you can see it yourself before you order, you don't need outside opinions for judgment on that.
alonso @ Oct 4th 2008 5:40AM
wow..nice.. i bought mine on the same day the pre-sale started... i dont care what people say, if it sucks or not, its just a phone and i like new technology.. so am excited ...
Dan Davis @ Oct 3rd 2008 11:29PM
Ordered mine last night... hells yeah! Can't wait to try out the 3G here in Seattle!
Paul @ Oct 4th 2008 12:52AM

hopefully i wont regret replacing my curve which i love.
Hugh @ Oct 4th 2008 1:33AM
Thank god I pre-ordered mine on the day it came out.
Mark @ Oct 4th 2008 2:15AM
Woot! Thank the gods I managed to pull together the money needed fast enough to order it a week ago, can't wait to show it off on the 22nd!!!
Jonas @ Oct 4th 2008 2:33AM
Anybody know if it will be possible to walk into a T-mobile store on the 22nd and purchase a G1 without a contract? And if so, at what price?
bachviet @ Oct 4th 2008 2:58AM
Yes you can if it's not sold out yet. The MSRP is $399.99 w/o contract.
Brian Sweat @ Oct 4th 2008 9:41AM
I can't get the "Full Upgrade" price until Monday, so I've been patiently waiting. However, it's not clear if the $179.99 (w/ 2yr contract) price will be available on Oct 22 in stores. If so, why would I pre-order on Oct 6 and wait until mid-November when I can still get it on Oct 22?
Jash Sayani @ Oct 4th 2008 7:04AM
I still cant believe that people are buying this dumb phone...... The only good part is Android. The hardware is pathetic !!!
I'll wait for a G2 or maybe G3.......
tomminixjr @ Oct 4th 2008 8:41AM
What was weird when I ordered it was there was no payment at all. It just said your phone will be delivered on the 22nd congrats.
dannyboy414 @ Oct 4th 2008 11:41AM
Yah, thanks all for giving me the scare. I had to dial 611 and make sure my order was confirmed as well because T-mo really isn't giving out any tracking info, order confirmation, updated UPS reference, and the site still lets me go into "upgrade portion"....
TRAFFICBLOWS @ Oct 4th 2008 12:57PM
hurmph... if only T-Mobile coverage didn't suck in NY!
I just got the Chocolate 3 from VZW 2-yr upgrade and the G1 is really what I'm looking for...
TareX @ Oct 4th 2008 3:09PM
I'm just waiting for the updates to hit the OS/browser, as well as the good 3rd party apps to start spready before buying it. No rush. My E65 has a some breath left.
jay steve @ Oct 6th 2008 10:54AM
i went to the site and it's not letting me order...how did u all order it..??
Live Crunch @ Oct 13th 2008 9:50AM
Per source of mine who works @ tmobile , it is clear that pre-orders will not be shipped no later then 13 days after the initial sale date. Yet If I don't get if on Oct 22nd all I really have to do is go to the t-mobile store and get one. Tmobile g1 will be available in most stores with no waiting lines. Trust me
doowahdiddy @ Oct 16th 2008 6:58AM
should I feel guilty that I have my G1 today? FYI there are already a few apps out for it...some are awesome and usefull (such as the barcode scanner) some are completely useless but awesome none the less (such as the seismograph). Trust me though...you will not regret waiting for this baby...I fell instantly in love with the phone. My only wish is that it has built-in flash player on the browser.
