BenQ's potent MID S6 headed for worldwide release?
It's shocking to even hear ourselves admit that we're licking our chops for a particular MID, but it's true. BenQ seems to have nailed most everything on the long-awaited MID S6 by including an 800MHz Intel Atom CPU, 4.8-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display, 512MB DDR2 RAM, a 2GB SSD, Bluetooth 2.0 / WiFi, microSD slot, inbuilt G-sensor and support for a myriad of multimedia file formats. On top of all of that, the Italian superstar could be coming to other corners of the globe as evidenced by an elaborate press page on its Global website that details its features in plain English. Said said provides an exhaustive list of capabilities and specifications, not to mention a bevy of press shots. The real kicker? That little note telling us that the built-in 3G module supports UMTS / HSDPA on "Band: 2100" and GSM / GPRS / EDGE on "Band: 900 / 1800 / 1900). Sound familiar, Americans? Hype video posted after the break.

allislost @ Oct 4th 2008 4:49PM
This looks and I'm surprised there's no to top it off. BenQ need to integrate technologies like to stand a chance in this market.
Con @ Oct 5th 2008 11:58AM
Your sentence doesn't make much sense.
allislost @ Oct 4th 2008 7:38PM

This implementation of RedFlag linux looks way better than the typical GUI used. Very nice...

Really bad music.

I know they would lose X86 compatibility and so would have to run a non-windows OS, but some of the new ARM chips are faster than an 800mhz ATOM for god sakes...
TJ @ Oct 4th 2008 6:58PM
no, it doesn't sound familiar, since AT&T requires the 850GSM band.
and yeah, im in america.

This baby is good but I am desperately waiting for the Archos 5g. Pocket size wins!

How to: Make a touch interface that doesn't rip off the iPhone and is actually original.
Think you can handle that Microsoft?
mocax @ Oct 5th 2008 12:49AM
tap once
double tap
touch and hold
touch and drag
repeat above variations with 2 fingers
repeat above variations with n number of fingers
I'm not a genius, I can't think of new permutations to the touch interface :(
Hope Microsoft or somebody else can do better.

To me it looks outdated already a lot of wasted space and very thick. If it had gaming pads and buttons on each side because it does have plenty of room it might be fun. 2gb memory well that sucks and sdhc would be better than microsd. The new archos has the look i would like it a device and all screen but its a locked up os and would have to hope it gets hacked to do a lot of things. For the past few years I have been sticking with x51v went threw a few. Its perfect pocket size and people are interested in making new roms for it but I havent been able to find a device worth upgrading to. I did try the n800 last summer it was hard compared to windows mobile. It dont think Iphone or gphone could replace what I use now the apps make it good. I would probably buy the archos if it had wm6.
substance90 @ Oct 5th 2008 12:49AM
Too fucking big... what am I supposed to do with this thing? Cary a bad pack with me constantly?
Sourdough @ Oct 5th 2008 4:34AM
Yes. Or buy an iPod Touch and settle for a screen half the size. Those are the alternatives.
Ferny @ Oct 5th 2008 3:02AM
I think this is the first BenQ device that I have been interested in for more than 5 seconds
Max @ Oct 5th 2008 10:27AM
Doesn't look very "pocketable"...I think it was picked-up by the wrong device site
jhoeforth @ Oct 5th 2008 11:04AM
I love it. I hope it will be available here in Asia.
