WowWee's Rovio gets reviewed: it's one awesome robotic sentry
WowWee goes out of its way to make one thing very clear about the Rovio: "this is not a toy." That being said, it doesn't make the patrolling sentry any less fantastic, as critics over at Robots-Dreams proclaimed that it was "intuitive and a pleasure to use from the moment you first open the box." From the painless setup process to the unparalleled mobility, reviewers sounded like they were grinning from ear-to-ear during the entire writeup process. It performed its robotic sentry duties with vigor and valor, and the review crew couldn't help but note that this bugger was "positioned to be the hottest robot for the upcoming holiday season, and for a long time to come." In other words, if you've been on the fence about dropping three bills on this thing, all your worries about it potentially sucking just got thrashed.

They had a video demo. Don't look at the video on their website which shows video smooth as butter, but some youtube video of reviewers show latency if you are going to control it over the internet. Home network should be smoother. Not to mention that the wheels on wheel that allows it to strafe is pretty small and probably will not handle shaggy carpent very well, you can forget about the backyard. The robot is capapable of navigating itself to preprogrammed locations. For that to work you have to have the infrared module for each room else it can't locate itself. Each led module that projects a beam to your ceiling is 20 bucks each. You'll need one for every room where you want to preprogram locations for it to go to. Latency is not too bad since it can navigate itself, you don't need instantaneous live video for it. I don't know how the led works if you don't have a flat cealing.
It's the beginning of Skynet...
In 10 years we'll be working for then... :)
Great looking!
soo..you do realize that when your site gets hacked, someone can just a) do very bad things to your home, b) just walk the stupid bot right out there by remote-control ? (provided ofcourse you overcome some possible obstacles) but still.
i wouldn't want anyone else controlling this bot
