Microsoft wasn't quite ready to comment when rumors about yet another reprieve for Windows XP first starting circulating
late last week, but that now seems to have changed, with a spokesperson for the company reportedly confirming in an email to InformationWeek that it is indeed pushing the cut-off date back six months, all the way to July 31st, 2009. According to the spokesperson, that's being done to ensure that customers moving to Vista are "
making that transition with confidence and that it is as smooth as possible," adding that, "providing downgrade media for a few more months is part of that commitment." Or, you know, it could have something to do with the fact that some folks don't want to move to Vista at all. Take your pick.
Ok engaget .. A) This is old news
and B) This isn't true: http://www.microsoft-watch.com/content/vista/xp_oem_licensing_extension_is_urban_myth.html
How dare you rain on Engadget's baseless Microsoft hate parade! Mac w00t pw0nd FTW first!11
Windows 7 release date anyone?
I don't see what the big change is gonna be with "7" other than touch and voice recognition. With the rumor that "7" is coming July 2009 pointing to the probability Apple will be introducing touch at the same time, next summer should be fun. May the best "toucher" win...Q
if it ain't broke . . .
Why don't you move to vista. Newsflash XP is old. !!!!
You know those times when someone says something ridiculous and you formulate a response and then realize it's not worth presenting to them?
My A3 scanner won't work in Vista, and replacing it ain't going to be cheap.
But but, Vista's not a failure. :-/
The real problem I see is that every system that gets bought with an XP downgrade option (from retailers like TigerDirect, Dell, etc) is probably getting counted as a Vista sale... Since you have to buy a Vista Business or Ultimate license to have the XP option at all.
So a few months down the road, MS gets to say "Vista adoption rates are way way up! Go us!", when in fact most of those "Vista sales" are actually installations of XP.
Corporate math FTW!
To each there own. I dont see why people get so up in arms over Os's. If it works for you fine, if not then switch up. Personally i like xp, osx and little bit on linux on the side. I played with vista for a bit and it wasnt my cup of tea. Then again maybe i am just set in my ways and need to swtcih up a little....
I have no problem with people using any OS that exists out there. What I am getting tired of is the assertion that there is something wrong with MY Vista machines and MY Vista experience! Without Vista on three machines here I would be getting half of my numerous functions done! This Vista story has been reported incorrectly from the start and that has only fueled the feelings for Vista. Most of what people criticize about Vista can be shut off permanently! No one ever mentions that in the coverage of Vista among other things....Q
I have to admit I was very hesitant to get vista but it came on my new laptop and I have to say its much nicer than I expected. I haven't had any problems with it other than it unsuspending whenever a usb device is unplugged or plugged...not really a problem anyway just an annoyance.
I had been using linux mint and xp before getting this laptop and I have to say that Linux Mint was definitely faster and prettier, but Vista has support for more of the programs that I must use as a civil engineering student.
I think I'l be sticking with Vista for the time being....and going back to Mint once I get bored.
I bought XP the day it launched in 2001 and swore by it, and still do. However, due to how long Vista has been out now and solely because of a commenter on this blog about 3 weeks ago had said he was reluctant to make the switch but did so and was happier than he was before; this caused me to give it a shot. I snagged a copy of Business edition from work and upgraded over the weekend, and it runs as good, if not better than my cleanest XP install. Yes, it rates my computer at 5.9 but even those with lower ratings will be able to enjoy it, the main reason being, everything is easily searchable via the Search bar.
excellent... we (corporate) are very much in the "don't want to move to Vista, ever" camp.
our next 'upgrade' from XP will be likely thin client / virtualized / centralized infrastructure... and when that happens users can run what ever OS they want.
We're sticking to XP too. Vista won't run our apps properly (unless maybe we upgrade ALL of them).. why would we switch to Vista only to see our business fail?
For personal use, it's not a big deal.. for businesses with existing apps, it's a no brainer.
boooooo; retire that junk. lets keep win98 re>runs going then.
Vista is going on three years now. where has everyone been.
I have two laptops, one running XP and one running Vista Home "Premium". I remember being so excited about XP in 2001 that I was hyped about Vista too, and bought an expensive Vista machine. Stupid me!
Here is a list of three things that I HAVE to use my XP computer because my Vista machine cant do it despite several attempts. Now I know all Vista machines may not have these problems, but mine does, and thats enough for me:
1) Recognize and sync my Iphone
2) Recognize and sync my Zune (WTF ZUNE???!!)
3) Stream media thru Media Center to Xbox.
For all three problems I have called Microsoft, Apple, Gateway, Bestbuy.... but no one can figure it out, while the XP machine, also Gateway, does these jobs flawlessly. $@% Vista!
umm well to sync the iphone ya need a Mac or a PC running itunes and for zune ya need zune software now for media center i dont see what issue your having as i have set some media center stuff up for a friend on his 360 it was simple and fast
@ Lawyer Bird
It's simple - release schedules. Look at the times between windows OS releases:
Win 95 - Aug 96
Win 98 - Jun 98
[Win Millennium] Win 2000 - [Feb 2000] Sep 2000
Win XP - Oct 2001
Win Vista - Jan 2007
Notice the huge jump between XP and Vista?
Obviously we are all waiting for Windows 7 (aka Windows Mojave...)
It's Windows Vienna - Mojave is just the marketing stunt.
DX10 fails to show that much graphical improvement and it slows down the game dramatically, I wonder where those optimized execution in DX10 went.
hello

hi guys.
I work as a technical support agent for a major computer manufacture and thanks to Vista issues we are getting thousands of calls you won't believe all the issues customer are having with windows Vista almost everybody is asking for the XP downgrade, and the problems is that not all of the models are XP compatible, customer have to stick with this garbage after every single call I thanks god for having a Mac waiting at home
