In the 90's a majority of Nobel prize-winning Scientists in the chemistry/geo field agreed that at our consumption rate the earth would run out of the resources needed to sustain us before 2070.
Unfortunately most Engaget readers only care about what the resolution is, how much it will cost to advertise on, how many LEDs are there, can Crysis be output to it or 'will it blend (one LED at a time).
The most important fact is how much power will it use (read waste). All so that some corporation can try to sell us more crap such as tobacco, cosmetics or some gas-guzzling SUV at the expense of costing us this planet.
@GoVegan Oh ok, I getcha now :P Just so you know, generally speaking, LED's are very power efficient. I also do understand where you are coming from too.
People like to talk about cutting costs when other countries are doing something like this. When USA goes into pomp and show, everybody cheers. But when other countries do it, there is talk about consumption, waste, global warming effects, etc.
I remember when Engadget reported about India's TataNano car, there were discussions about pollution and it contributing to global warming, etc, even though it was a 50 mpg car! For a country with less than 5% of the population and using more than 45% of the world's resources (including coal, oil, electricity, minerals), you''re one to talk!!
Was the Eiffel tower a waste when it was built? What about wasting electricity when a lot of American businesses and offices leave their lights and computers on even at night after everybody is gone? I work in Manhattan and almost my whole building remains lit even at night when no one is there!
happy_penguin Thats what most people think. You won't be there when humans run out of resources ect. But your kids will. And the kids of your kids will. You really hate your kids so much that want them to suffer?
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
How much does it cost to advertise on it? lol
Probably about 50 years of my life working.
one dollar per led lit up

And yet, humans are still doing.... this.

My thoughts exactly.

@GoVegan
You didn't think I was serious when I asked how much it costs to advertise, did you? o.O
Thank God I won't be here in 2070
@ChrisTheFeral.
No, but my point is that this type of question first comes to mind for most people even if said in jest.

This article is wrong, The world's largest is in Doha's Westbay being built. It's DOUBLE the size of this one!

@Kei
YOU ARE WRONG!, one thing is the largest LED screen and another is the largest PROJECTION surface, whatever.
