Apple "notebook" event is on, October 14th!

The rumors were true folks. Apple is staging an invitation-only Town Hall event in Cupertino next Tuesday, October 14th at 10AM PDT. It's absolutely safe to say they'll be showing off new laptops... and you know we'll be there live! Will this be an unveiling of a whole new form factor? Will this "Brick" mystery be put to bed? Will they come in rainbow colors? Tune in to find out.

Engadget is covering an Apple Event? Thanks for telling me, for a second there I thought maybe you guys weren't.
Neophytos @ Oct 9th 2008 12:23PM
Thats not even clever.
From My Cube @ Oct 9th 2008 12:30PM
@imac matt 09....very nice!
o rly @ Oct 9th 2008 12:50PM
Actually imacmatt09, it's Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp). You probably weren't even born yet.
imacmatt09 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:55PM
@ o rly
I figured that it was some other song but more people probably would know the tune from the commercial than the song alone. And yeas that was way before my time.
Mikeweezer @ Oct 9th 2008 1:33PM
'It's not like your Surfin Bird record walked away... well, my Allan Sherman record walked away'
Kim @ Oct 10th 2008 6:39PM
So then you weren't around for this either:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_of_the_Hours
vnangia@uchicago.edu @ Oct 9th 2008 2:22PM
Actually, o rly, it's from Ponchinelli's La Gioconda - it's called "The Dance of the Hours".
Definitely before your time ;)
Chris @ Oct 9th 2008 2:23PM
"(read/sing in the tune of the k9 advantix commercial)"
Really? You've never heard of "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh"? Poor Allan Sherman.
Chris @ Oct 9th 2008 2:25PM
And of course I make the fatal mistake of replying before refreshing. Argh.
KeegdnaB @ Oct 9th 2008 2:54PM
Regardless of where it came from
it still gave me a good lol
o rly @ Oct 9th 2008 3:33PM
Actually vnangia@uchicago.edu, the tune is from Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours, however, the lyrics/lines that imacmatt09 is "remixing" / referring to (re: advantix commerical) are from "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh."
Yes, I'm nitpicking.
Ari @ Oct 9th 2008 3:38PM
This has been the most pointless set of comments I have ever seen.
jupiterthunder @ Oct 9th 2008 6:16PM
@ o rly
Dude, there the same tune.
bob sakamano @ Oct 9th 2008 9:39PM
ok now i have to change my pants
o rly @ Oct 10th 2008 12:31AM
jupiterthunder, dude, they're as in they are. The lyrics are still to "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh."
Yes, even more nitpicking.
Prasand J. @ Oct 10th 2008 4:17AM
Allen, Ponchielli, Crest ... blar. -- I liked his remix, but still the marijuana version comes to mind when I hear the tune.
Prasand J. @ Oct 10th 2008 4:19AM
Then again, I still think "batman smells" when I hear jingle bells.
icepop4who @ Oct 9th 2008 12:10PM
beautiful
Jash Sayani @ Oct 9th 2008 1:39PM
Amazing!!! Pre-order one for me!!!
I hope its not too expensive. and its around 10" inch to 13" inch !!!
Zeraw @ Oct 9th 2008 4:36PM
Same day as Canadian elections eh?
Andrew @ Oct 9th 2008 4:46PM
Yep. For my part, I voted already and got Vaio Z. Got tired of waiting a year and half for Apple to release a new notebook, only to be disappointed by Air. Unveiling new stuff now is like unveiling your election platform a a week before the vote. For people still in the market, I hope it better be worth it.

When the Canadian elections are on, no one outside Canada knows.
When the American ones are on, the whole word must know!
Michael Kontaxis @ Oct 12th 2008 4:11PM
Canada has elections?
Jk...
Konstantin @ Oct 9th 2008 12:10PM
YES! Can't wait. Its about time!
Mehul @ Oct 9th 2008 12:28PM
And I just got my macbook in June.... Should have waited.
Konstantin @ Oct 9th 2008 12:33PM
@Mehul - Don't worry. I think this update concerns the MacBook Pro's which haven't been updated in god knows how long. Your MacBook should still be up to date come Nov. 14th.
GenBanks @ Oct 9th 2008 12:37PM
Hehe, I'm feeling very smug right now because I was going to buy my first apple laptop a couple weeks ago but decided to wait :D
Anoldcarsnickname @ Oct 9th 2008 1:07PM
Err, actually. The Macbook and the Macbook Pro got their last update simultaneously. So they will probably be updating the both of them. You can check at http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Air
emil @ Oct 9th 2008 1:27PM
@mehul and konstantin
the macbooks should go aluminium like the pros.

You sir, are a Genius
Derek @ Oct 9th 2008 12:11PM
Huzzah!
Now I just need an excuse to put down the coin on a new compy... these things better make me breakfast.
Kamokazi @ Oct 9th 2008 12:23PM
Well, with the overheating that some Apple laptops have been famous for, it just may!
But actually, if they do have single-piece aluminum construction, it should actually be a lot more effective at dissipating heat away. Heatpipe from the CPU and GPU dies to the body of the laptop? Might be they way to a fanless, and therefore silent, laptop.
hawksfan03 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:11PM
I hope they only announce features that should have been available in the first place and introduce nothing new.
CraigJ @ Oct 9th 2008 12:43PM
Like what?
SubGenius @ Oct 9th 2008 1:08PM
A DVD burner in the base MacBook model would be nice.
L.M.L.Y.P @ Oct 9th 2008 1:18PM
wait... they dont come with dvd burners?
CraigJ @ Oct 9th 2008 1:50PM
The $1099 one just has a reader. all the other ones have dual-layer DVD burners.
L.M.L.Y.P @ Oct 9th 2008 2:14PM
hahah oh pathetic. yet another reason why not to buy a mac.
CraigJ @ Oct 9th 2008 3:39PM
you're an idiot.
