Apple "notebook" event is on, October 14th!

The rumors were true folks. Apple is staging an invitation-only Town Hall event in Cupertino next Tuesday, October 14th at 10AM PDT. It's absolutely safe to say they'll be showing off new laptops... and you know we'll be there live! Will this be an unveiling of a whole new form factor? Will this "Brick" mystery be put to bed? Will they come in rainbow colors? Tune in to find out.

Wowww!! Thanks to Apple for choosing 14th October. Can't wait to see what's the birthday surprise for me. Been waiting for the new version of macbook.
Well, I decided to see what an Apple Employee via Apple's Chat had to say about this, so I decided to open a conversation. Note that I was trying to be as stupid as I could to see what he would do. Also, for the employee's protection I took out parts of the name.

* You are chatting with D**** M, an Apple Expert
*
Hi, my name is D**** M. Welcome to Apple!
*
You: Hello.
*
You: How are you?
*
D**** M: Good evening.
*
D**** M: I'm great! And you?
*
You: Good thanks.
*
You: I have a quick question...
*
You: I am going to get a macbook pro
*
D**** M: Great! I'm happy to assist you.
*
You: However I just read on Engadget that Apple has confirmed an event for next tues that is going to be focused on the release of new Apple Notebooks.
*
D**** M: I can't speculate. It is just rumors at this point.
*
D**** M: We do have a 14 day price protection policy, however. So if something happens during the 14 days from your date of shipment, then you would be eligible to participate.
*
You: So does that mean if I am to purchase one today, and a new model is released in the next week or so that I can swap mine for a new model of equal value?
*
D**** M: Yes
*
D**** M: or you can return it for an exchange
*
D**** M: Or if hte price drops on the model you get, you can get refunded the difference.
*
You: Ah, ok.
*
You: Well, I think I may wait next week out just in case considering Engadget has been right about other apple releases such as the new iPods
*
D**** M: Chat with us again when you are ready to order. We're happy to assist you.
*
You: Will do.
*
You: Thanks for your help

I'll keep trying at them and see if one of them will let out some goods!

Do you really think some AppleCare Chat person has any idea of Apple upcoming product releases? Chances are you will know about new products before those people do. Apple isn't like most companies that train early on, the only people that know what the new product is is very limited.
Actually, I have quite a few friends that work at Apple and one of which works as one of these online "Apple Support" Guys and you'd be surprised how they all know people in the design team..and do you honestly think things don't travel through the grapvine at a company like Apple?
NOONONON i dont want this. I just bought a macbook pro now theres going to be a new one :(
"Hardware that is going to be replaced fairly soon, so, really, this is all moot."
Yep, Apple has to call big attention whore event, the dell website will silently update itself too. Every other laptop maker updates their hardware far more frequently than Apple. I think there have been half a dozen articles about Sony in the last few days. Meh. Not biting the one about OSX.
"And where does that option pop up for the Home & Home Office user?"
There's this customize button you know. Explore...
"Seems like lots of people with lives disagree with you, managing their photos, making home movies, making music, etc. *fun* to do multimedia projects."
Ha, sure take a dig at my life.

I wonder how much the Chinese factory worker gets for slangin the spy shots...
Who cares about this if Socom comes out on Oct 14th :-P
I stopped caring about SOCOM when "Hold Fire" became "Frag and kill the other fireteam".
I'm not really sure why people are screaming at Apple to lower the price on Macbooks etc. so that everybody and their dog can have one.
You're paying for design, a designer suit will be better quality than your wal-mart suit, it will look nicer and fit better, but will cost likely 10x more. The materials sure as hell didnt cost 10x more so you know that they are making a ton on each one, but it looks great and you feel good in it so who cares? If everyone had an Armani suit because they cost $50 it wouldn't make you feel as good when you put it on because it's not exclusive, it's just the way things work.
It's the same situation here, Macs ARE expensive, but they are (at least in my opinion) the best looking and most functional laptops you can buy, and come with the best operating system. It does gripe me a bit that their products are usually 6-12 months behind on release in terms of hardware but it's always a choice between the functionality of the Mac and OS X or the powerful hardware of a PC.
I kinda agree with you Matt, except that Armani isn't buying normal/cheap parts to build their suits and then selling them at high price just because it says "armani" and they have a designer's box.
And that's what Mac is doing, yes yes, it's a designer's item, it should be pricey. But it should be made out
of the best hardware out there. Not just the best laptop case design. OR
SELL THEM FOR LESS. OR put some good processors inside!
Macs while cool (looking) are overpriced.
C'mon Steve, gimme that MacBook Touch you promised!
and by promised you mean never once hinted at or mentioned?
Surely enough Mac designers watch or play basketball enough to know that "brick" is not necessarily a good term. And, for a piece of electronics, it's the worst term of all (what are they thinking). Maybe they're "takin' it back" Clerks II style.
i know this wont happen but a return of the good ol iBook?
14 inch, low-end proc, 1 gig ram, 160 Gig HDD, multicolored?
that would be mucho good (with maybe $700 pricetag?)
So you want an orange MacBook for $400 cheaper?
As I just installed MAC OS X (also running WinVista & Ubuntu-EEE) on my EEE PC 1000H....what have I need of any APPLE Proprietary Hardware???
As the architect said....the problem is choice.
FREE YOURSELF FROM APPLE'S SHACKLED.....Build a Hackintosh!!
Or don't.
I have done the Hackintosh, but it's more of a hassle than a help. Having to wait for someone to crack the updates and not being able to use sleep on a laptop are two of the things that drove me mad, use a Hackintosh to try out OS X, but then buy the real thing, because it's so much better.
Really intersted in it. Hope to see it soon.
I suppose the Mac Mini won't be mentioned & of course won't be updated in the same time frame. I wouldn't whine so much if Apple made their laptops dockable (even if the dock cost $199).
According to my source, on tuesday the 14th Steve Jobs will release SNOW LEOPARD.
