Sony Ericsson's 8.1MP C905 Cyber-shot cellphone gets unboxed on video
Oh sure, you've seen the 8.1-megapixel C905 Cyber-shot in the wild and in our very own hands, but have you seen it unboxed entirely on video? No? Well, today's your lucky day. Sony Ericsson's shutterbug-of-a-cellphone is a touch on the thick side and doesn't come with too many extras (you know, like a detachable zoom lens), but as SE always manages to do, it has delivered a pretty enviable beast all things considered. Have a look at the video after the break.

So what!, this is just basically a low end Point and Shoot camera, with added GSM bands.... not impressed at all...
Lets see S.E. put out a mobile internet device +
phone +
media player , all in one that does not suck.... pffft! go home S.E....
)law( @ Oct 12th 2008 4:09AM
'pffft! go home iEYE'
see i just fixed that statement for you right there
Jon Nelson @ Oct 11th 2008 9:38PM
You mean like, say, the X1?
Go home, Apple fanboy.
noyp @ Oct 11th 2008 9:40PM
The SEX1 might be able to do that better than your precious iphone, with the exception of its media player (face it that was the original purpose of the iphone)
MadMike @ Oct 11th 2008 11:24PM
Apple's iPhone is an iPod that can occasionally make a phone call - When AT&T's 3G network isn't sucking. So, a little less than occasionally.
This was designed to be a ultraportable 8.1 camera that could occasionally make a phone call. However, with SE it can do the latter more than occasionally.
The Experia X1, is going to be obsolete by the time the ACTUALLY FREAKING RELEASE IT IN THE US!!!111one C'mon, its getting to be worse than the Bold.
Ah well... Why can't we have it all. Good camera, good phone, good pmp on a fast network that doesn't blow gangrenous donkey balls. Is that really too much to ask for?
noyp @ Oct 12th 2008 11:16AM
Probably....
moria @ Oct 13th 2008 2:05PM
Why ppl compare phones? all phones are different. at the end what ever feels, looks, and features to the person is what matters. I will take this phone over any other high end phones out there. even that Iphone 3g. I prefer the Bronze/Gold...
Eye, go to hell with your iphone shove up your @$$...
MrMac @ Oct 11th 2008 9:43PM
I'm sure this comes with Sony Ericsson's amazing GUI. I think I'll go buy a dog.
iEye @ Oct 11th 2008 10:03PM
Or you could just download one of those virtual dog screen saver games.... the virtual poop is much more easy to clean up!
noyp @ Oct 11th 2008 10:09PM
Or you know, you can get a life by getting a real dog.

Looking at the pics in that link. What's extremely disconcerting is that there still is a lot of noise in the pictures. I guess that's what happens when the sensor isn't up to par.
I had the K790a (3.2 mp) camera, and I loved it. Sure it wasn't a real camera, but it's far superior to the shitty camera on the Blackberry Curve. Ugh, I'm stuck with that phone now and I hate the camera on it.
iEye @ Oct 11th 2008 10:02PM
So basically if you take 5 pictures with flash your talk time is cut in half?...
a faiure as a camera AND a phone... Wow! double FAIL in one!...
You know there comes a point where bigger does not attract customers... it is all about useablility... like the holistic experience from iPhone UI...
oooh this S.E. phones has a 50MP camera and a 50,000,000 candle power flash!
oooh this razor blade has 10 blades! muuuuch closer shave....
oooh this GM car has a V16 engine... but is only 1.2 litre.... much better drive....
FAIL FAIL and FAIL!
noyp @ Oct 11th 2008 10:08PM
OOOH this phone has copy and paste, wait that's a big add-on for most people, but not a fail.
)law( @ Oct 11th 2008 10:10PM
look the iphone is a great phone but there are other phones out there that can be just as good too, sorry if my comment melts your face an blows your mind ieye...........
noyp @ Oct 11th 2008 10:14PM
Common sense doesn't work on him (or her, but really unlikely)....
HOOPER @ Oct 11th 2008 10:40PM
BUT SERIOUSLY, why isn't this guy banned yet?
ri @ Oct 11th 2008 10:47PM
atleast this phone can have a proper phone function.. you know without having a lousy call quality, and having a strong signal . unlike the icrap with ipoop battery that become iuseless when winter time comes.
Tom G @ Oct 11th 2008 10:18PM
Yay! 8.1 million dark, blurry pixels on my camera phone photos now!
Ian @ Oct 11th 2008 11:57PM
Forget megapixels. This camera isn't going to be any better because of that.
Just start giving us "quality pixels" rather than more pixels. Using the same tech, they should just make a new 4 MP model for people who actually want good photos from this sensor. How big is it anyway, maybe 1/3.2"?
Ron @ Oct 11th 2008 10:20PM
It looks good. Though I'm not really interested in this sort of thing. It just goes to show that the day when all-in-one mobile phones replace all of out gadgets and devices that we use seperately. I've always said that a cameraphone will never beat a dedicated digital camera but with phones like the C905 and Samsung's INNOV8, are loading with all the standard and high-end features of todays advanced digital cameras. I'm pretty sure there will be cameraphones that will replace the DSLR's.
Justin @ Oct 11th 2008 10:53PM
What a joke of a phone... and "iEye"? You've got to be kidding Sony, haha
mega maniac @ Oct 11th 2008 11:18PM
Does anyone know the name of the song played in the backgorund?
FelipeCalderon @ Oct 12th 2008 12:58AM
I just think all these companies coming up with new phones are just trying to catch up with apple's iphone. Eventually they will catch up and have equal or better quality GUI touchscreens. I will be interested in these phones when they also have a web browser as good as the iphone's safari. Let the competition begin!!
Poom @ Oct 12th 2008 2:06AM
-_-" omg another stupid apple fanboy... clearly, this phone is not made to directly compete with the iPhone nor to catch up with it. It is not promoting a new UI and is not music oriented. Besides, Apple would be the one to catch up here with the crappy 2MP camera without autofocus or any flash whatsoever.
noyp @ Oct 12th 2008 11:14AM
Dude, this isn't a touchscreen phone. Just because it's a phone doesn't mean it competes with the iphone.
Poom @ Oct 12th 2008 2:04AM
Ummm... this phone has been out in my homecountry for months already???
strider_mt2k @ Oct 12th 2008 5:05AM
We now return to "Edward Vaseline Hands, Crack Photographer"
grull27 @ Oct 12th 2008 9:28AM
Well it beat the LG Renoir
by .1 MP.
drsilverworm @ Oct 15th 2008 2:52AM
They are both technically 8.1 MP
Yaniv @ Oct 14th 2008 5:38PM
I prefer N96, the N96 is much multimedia phone than this one.
CheekyMonkey123 @ Oct 12th 2008 11:25AM
Nice. Not sure how this is going to help SE though. By the time this is released Nokia and Samsung (who probably provide the CMOS sensor on this) will have something better or on par out.
The X1 seems like an act of desperation on SE's part - why not release something using Symbian/UIQ (with form factor that they could have designed from the ground up themselves)? They needed something out ASAP for business and had to go to HTC (isn't the X1 a rebadged Touch Diamond?). It's a shame they cancelled Paris and all the other rumoured P1/P990 replacements.
Comparing the iphone to this is not really fair. Apple never set out to make the iphone an image-centric device (sure the camera could have been way better and have video recording). I don't think that these other companies are 'catching' up to Apple - it's more of a case that they have been shown how software and hardware can work really well together (OK I'm referring to iphone 1.0!!!). I think Android will allow these companies to do just that.
Perhaps SE could follow Moto and HTC - go into Android. SE have an ability to design some amazing phones, that coupled with Android would make it far more interesting for us consumers.
I'm actually looking forward to HTC HD Touch Android (if something like that ever sees the light of day).
Phoenix @ Oct 12th 2008 2:20PM
A rebadged Touch Diamond? Jeeezus. It's a completely different form factor. It's closer to the Touch Pro, but with different screen resolution, size, weight, keyboard... to name but a few or the differences.
It's a distinct device, but made by the same company, HTC.
I've tried to be polite in this comment, it was hard not to call you names >.< but I rose above it.
Alex Bhaswara @ Oct 12th 2008 10:25PM
Any comparison with other 8MP camera phone?
