Isnt it about time Australia got added to that list?
Sarig @ Oct 13th 2008 6:07PM
It looks like all the timezones listed are correct, don't confuse the engadget staff by telling them to add more!
AC @ Oct 13th 2008 6:08PM
no
Ben @ Oct 13th 2008 6:23PM
YES! i completely agree.
I always remember it though as Tokyo as japan being 1 hour behind (2 hours now that we are in daylight savings). I think i am correct, just search "time in tokyo" in google.
Ben @ Oct 13th 2008 6:41PM
also isn't it about time Australia get macs without the huge mark-up in price?
kv @ Oct 13th 2008 6:46PM
yeah, that goes for europe too. would be nice if we didnt have to pay 50-60% more than the americans, wtf is up with that.
nerdtalker @ Oct 13th 2008 7:01PM
How about listing it in one timezone and expecting people to use google to convert? Is it really that hard?
Adderz @ Oct 13th 2008 7:08PM
@nerdtalker
You know what would be even easier, instead of 19 million people (the pop of Australia) having to google for their timezone. One person taking 5 seconds to type it in.
To the people thinking Macs are overpriced in Australia. They are SLIGHTLY more than their American counterparts, if you consider economies of scale, etc etc. You should be glad Apple even sell Macs in Australia we have such a low population. We are a very small market.
Josh @ Oct 13th 2008 7:26PM
I hate the UK, i know it makes no difference in "real time" terms, but it always seems like we have to wait ALL day for the keynote to start. Thank god i've got lots of lectures to fill in the time.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Oct 13th 2008 9:50PM
2:30 pm NDT Newfoundland Daylight savings time. Come off it guys you never add us out here. You know that big island to the East of the Continent. Sheesh.
on Topic: Netbook eh? This might be the deciding factor on if I buy my FIRST Apple Product ever.

I predict the death of the Macbook Air, or rather it being combined with the Macbook. Or something. Whatever, I am not good at this rumor-starting shenanigans.
GiF @ Oct 13th 2008 7:39PM
Maybe there will be a MacBook Oxygen.
Rotate MacBook Oxygen on its side to view Cover Flow in Landscape mode.
Play games using the accelerometer.
Click Wheel keyboard makes typing "easy".
1.2 mm thick.
John @ Oct 13th 2008 8:31PM
The MacBook Vapor. No screen, no keyboard, no ports. All Mac.
Huy @ Oct 13th 2008 6:07PM
Better be a tablet announcement. Doesn't even have to be a release, but I want to hear some message from Apple's gonna do something.
CraigJ @ Oct 13th 2008 6:56PM
not a chance
Huy @ Oct 13th 2008 8:13PM
I suppose Apple needs to keep that tablet card in their belt next time their stock takes a hit. But a tablet would admittedly be the best compliment to the Apple product line. Apple Mactouch anyone?
CraigJ @ Oct 13th 2008 8:24PM
If by tablet you mean a 7 or 8 inch device, kind of like a big iPod Touch, then game on.
I've used tablet PCs before, and other than specialty applications (dr. office, etc), and giving presentations, I found little use for them.
I would really like to hear some specifics as to why these are desired. I've tried photoshop and your finger is not accurate enough, and a stylus just doesn't seem to work as well as a mouse. Handwritten notes are hit or miss, I'd rather just type them.
I just want a MacBook made of aluminum for under $1000
Jared @ Oct 13th 2008 6:08PM
What does everyone think they will change on the MacBook Pro?
EmoChicksAreHot.....Seriously @ Oct 13th 2008 6:45PM
As long as it's something good,I don't care.
GiF @ Oct 13th 2008 7:47PM
a click wheel for iTunes controlling.
iPod nano colors
accelerometer (:P)
CraigJ @ Oct 13th 2008 9:31PM
MBPs have an accelerometer
Teddy-G @ Oct 13th 2008 6:09PM
apple is FINALLY making macbooks to my specifications....! excited to see 13in macbooks with DISCRETE graphics
dark star @ Oct 13th 2008 6:09PM
im waiting for a 7 inch itouch!
n apple, please redesign your mac book pros. its been like at least 5 years right?
Zelatio @ Oct 13th 2008 6:09PM
I predict they will have another cheaper version of the Air at ~$800, and they will call it a netbook, and people will buy it like there is no tomorrow.

Apple is just gonna slay the competition with that gray sword of death and despair.
Only if it had a handle on it though.
hi im a mac @ Oct 13th 2008 6:22PM
The 14th is officially the new Christmas
Esat Dedezade @ Oct 13th 2008 6:46PM
Really? Damn, I must have missed the memo, I didn't do my Christmas shopping in time.
Looks like little Jimmy won't be getting any presents this year. Hope he likes.. *looks around desk* bottle caps and paper clips, because that's all I got...
vance @ Oct 13th 2008 6:28PM
If it's a 10" netbook with a slimmed down OSX that boots quickly and runs all day, I'm so in. At any price under a grand.
Oh, and with a good keyboard.
John B @ Oct 13th 2008 6:33PM
I have a feeling the new macbooks just macbooks.....not pros are gonna be aluminum. My friend works for Apple and he heard that. I cant wait to get rid of my white macbook lol
TD @ Oct 13th 2008 6:35PM
I am always confused why Engadget needs 2 posts before a live blog; this post to tell us the start time, and another for the live blog itself. Why can't this just be the place where you live blog?
Troels C @ Oct 13th 2008 6:37PM
What a surprise :)

Ross @ Oct 13th 2008 6:45PM
I just noticed their ad uses the font "Myriad Pro Light". All their ads use the non-light version: "Myriad Pro". The MacBook Air was the first ad to use Light (thinnovation, etc) for obvious reasons.
So what does that mean for this round? Lighter notebooks? Thinner bezel? Hopefully all of the above.
I hope the $800-$900 rumours are true. Then my cheapo family can quit moaning and buy one (and I get to stop the Windows tech support!!!!!!).
Sean @ Oct 14th 2008 1:35AM
I'm sorry, you wanna buy a laptop that has no CD drive and virtually no holes in it for which to plug things in?
Why the heck do you think they might drop the price ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS? 'cause the thing is a piece of crap.
For $1,800 you could buy yourself a trip to Disney World. Seriously. I hope you are smart enough to avoid this thing.
Kimleng @ Oct 13th 2008 6:46PM
First, I held off for Centrino 2....then I held off for even faster Centrino 2. Then I held off for freakin' Apple to hop on the damn wagon! I hope I will not have held off for naught after tomorrow's announcement. If I end up getting a freakin' Sony FW-2XX series instead of a shiny new Apple tomorrow, I'm gonna be pissed for all the time I wasted not using a new laptop that I could have bought already! But, I don't think Apple will let me down this time. The MacBook Pro has got to be mega awesome!!! It has no choice!
crescentdavid @ Oct 13th 2008 7:56PM
So you're thinking it's going to come with blu-ray r/rw and hdmi out?
Joshua.JWilliams @ Oct 13th 2008 8:08PM
I personally think it's just going to be aluminum MacBooks and slightly revised MacBook Pros. Maybe a spec increase, possibly. I'm starting to doubt that I'm going to go through the trouble of returning my newly purchased MacBook to get a new these revised MacBook and MacBook pros.
They'll probably lower the price of the MacBook Air, which appears to not have been selling well since it was introduced in January. Non user-replaceable battery == FTL.
CraigJ @ Oct 13th 2008 9:35PM
Actually the MBA has been selling just fine _to its intended demographic_, and from what I have heard the MBA numbers are in line with estimates.
Kimleng @ Oct 13th 2008 9:57PM
Only reason I'd go with the Sony FW-2XX series is because it has all the goodies + Adobe RGB hi-color display. If Apple pulled a high color display option for the MBP, I'm ALL for it. I'd probably get it, anyway.
As much as I don't have any problems with Windows, I hear that Photoshop on OSX just runs faster compared to the Windows version when running at similar CPU speeds. Supposedly OSX manages RAM better cuz my PC just comes to a complete crawl when editing 16 bit TIFFs after running 5 actions on 5-6 images. I gotta reboot to get my performance back. I have 4GB and it just doesn't seem to be enough!! Instead of going to 8GB, I figure I'd try Mac. If Mac gets me more performance out of similar hardware, bye bye Windows until the next iteration, then I'll give it another shot.
Ignacio @ Oct 13th 2008 7:32PM
Easier than figuring out timezones...

Jared @ Oct 13th 2008 7:07PM
Will the new laptops be available to buy tomorrow or are they going to make us wait even longer?
joshua @ Oct 13th 2008 7:27PM
After simmering on this invitation for a few days, I find the wording particular interesting. Why not just say, "The spotlight turns to Macbooks."? Why the generalization? All of their laptops have the Macbook name (standard, Pro, and Air). And previous media events have included Apple-specific product names (i.e. they used iPod, not MP3 player).
The use of the word notebook, which I personally associate with the corporate/PC world, makes me think even more that this new product offering will definitely aim at taking marketing share away from the major notebook players. Looking forward to what tomorrow brings!
joshua @ Oct 13th 2008 7:31PM
and i mean something big...not the obligatory spec bumps or form factor refreshes. something HUGE.
