PS3 2.50 firmware update hits North America (PSP 5.00 too)
Good news, friends, you won't have to wait until tomorrow to get at that new Flash 9 support offered up by the PS3 2.50 update: the firmware is available now. Sony tossed in a few other assorted updates like power-saving options and voice chat enhancements, but we're sure you'll be too busy watching Doogie Howser, M.D. on Hulu to notice. Happy downloading!
Update: PSP 5.00 is available now too.
[Thanks, Tony]

Awesome!
Seth @ Oct 14th 2008 11:55PM
Yes! I'm going to be up all night watching Family Guy on Hulu! And with Auto-Shutdown, can the PS3 recognize when I've dozed off and fallen asleep, thus automatically shutdown? Now that right there would be innovation!
NHAnimator @ Oct 15th 2008 8:00AM
Love the new auto-off function. Another thumbs up for Sony.
Eddie @ Oct 15th 2008 10:17AM
mmm This means I can start watching season 4 of How I Met Your Mother! Yays!
refriedbeans19 @ Oct 14th 2008 11:52PM

refriedbeans19 @ Oct 14th 2008 11:57PM
they finally added a feature that can automatically turn off your controller(s) when you're away from the ps3. that'll come in handy when i forget to disconnect it. :)
EmoChicksAreHot.....Seriously @ Oct 14th 2008 11:59PM
Damn,that was quick.
But I likely the quicky.
holycow @ Oct 15th 2008 12:05AM
"Damn,that was quick."
That's what she said!
I'm sorry I couldn't resist!
sracer @ Oct 15th 2008 12:00AM
Hulu Works! You can even zoom in to have the video fill the screen.
centinall @ Oct 15th 2008 12:40AM
So, you're using the browser's zoom, and not hulu's fullscreen? Whenever I click hulu's fullscreen, something funky happens and I can only see a quarter of the video in the original video's panel.
inetdevboy @ Oct 15th 2008 2:33PM
Didn't work for me, either. Most of the time it wouldn't stream at all (with my 8Mbps connection, no probs on laptop). And the hulu "FullScreen" button (and the x720 one) both send it into quarter-sized video fits that can only be undone by refreshing the page. I'd love to see this work, though.
Jonathan Minnick @ Oct 15th 2008 12:01AM
Thanks for letting us know...the message popped up that it was available, but I was playing Haze at the time and I thought it was just someone sending a message to me so I didn't update...but I'm doing it now :)
Ken Allen @ Oct 15th 2008 12:04AM
So when do I get the ability to play music while playing a game?
why not the LS2LS7? @ Oct 15th 2008 12:09AM
You already can, it depends on the game though.
rickjamess @ Oct 15th 2008 12:09AM
I believe that this was included already in a previous update, however its up to the individual game developers to implement this into the game.
gameforall @ Oct 15th 2008 12:12AM
You already can :P
Andrea @ Oct 15th 2008 12:04AM
Fantastic, thanks so much for the update! :)

Awesome now you get to see when your friends last logged in to the PSN (woo hoo) I'm jumping for joy (yawn) i guess the only good thing i the Flash 9 update now I'll use my ps3 more often to watch vids.
HighRoller @ Oct 15th 2008 12:54AM
I've found that downloading the system update is agonizingly slow when I download it off the PS3 directly. I want to download it from my laptop and then transfer...Where's the site for the download of 2.50? All I can find is 2.43 and I've already got that...HEEELP!!!
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Oct 15th 2008 1:02AM
Dude power cycle ur junk. Restart ur computer pull out the power cords of from the backs of both the modem and router wait ten seconds and then put modems in power cord back in. Wait Ten seconds, then the router's, wait 30 seconds and then turn on Ps3, then computer. Downloads will be fast. Guaranteed. Heck If I can tell my friend how to do this and set up a dmz while driving then you know it will werk.
Side Note FLASH 9 Support fails on their own Blog, which they promised us that we could watch it once it went Live.
Can't win em all, eh?
HighRoller @ Oct 15th 2008 1:07AM
OK I will try that but is there a site I can donload it from because the Sony site only has 2.43...
HighRoller @ Oct 15th 2008 2:38AM
Seriously, I need to know where I can download this update from the web, Its been running this whole time and its done 37%
Bjsfreaked @ Oct 15th 2008 11:17AM

Dustin Hess @ Oct 15th 2008 1:18AM
Downloaded, working great. As far as I can tell, the .mp4 streaming issues have been solved.
Justin Rossetti @ Oct 15th 2008 1:20AM
Any why to have the browser stop prompting you to activate flash every new page?
This is so annoying.
NineToez @ Oct 15th 2008 1:29AM
Awesome! Downloading now!
lenny @ Oct 15th 2008 1:34AM
hey guys does pandora work? downloading... ok its done please let me know
Che Allen @ Oct 15th 2008 1:37AM
PSP 5.0 firmware update is up as well. Installing right now.
rudefyet @ Oct 15th 2008 1:51AM
Tested some sites with Flash 9, can now watch Hulu, Zero Punctuation and TWiT Live, but all of the above have a lackluster framrate at least at 1080p.Haven't tested Youtube in fullscreen, since it was about 10fps video on 2.4x, but Hulu's fullscreen mode doesn't work at all.Pandora doesn't work at all.Overall nice to see I can watch some things I've wanted to use the PS3 for. This also places the PS3's built in browser ahead of any open-source flash implementations you'd get with Linux on the PS3, but it remains a huge disappointment until they can get the framerates up on flash video.
Omar @ Oct 15th 2008 3:32AM
Sweet now I can watch Hulu via PSP.
sts @ Oct 15th 2008 5:33AM
The firmware is also go in Europe.
raus22 @ Oct 15th 2008 5:59AM

raus22 @ Oct 15th 2008 6:02AM
oh and im in the land of PAL(europe) if that have any meaning to the problem...
lyons @ Oct 15th 2008 10:46AM
yep im having thew same problem.
it seems to be putting videos at 50hz . my divX files play in colour though.
Eugenia Loli-Queru @ Oct 15th 2008 6:04AM
Hey, can you get ANY flash video to go full screen? I can't get it to go full screen here. Neither on youtube or hulu or Vimeo videos.
BTW, for Vimeo, it works only when embedded in another page. The vimeo pages have some javascript that the PS3 browser doesn't support, but if you embed the video on another site with its simpler code, the Flash 9 works.
jared @ Oct 15th 2008 6:11AM
If this is old news, why do you need to bring people to your site to read the old news.
cMERON @ Oct 15th 2008 6:19AM

Xtopher Robin @ Oct 15th 2008 6:35AM
