Sony starts shipping VAIO JS series all-in-one desktop
Sony's VAIO JS series, which was introduced at CEDIA alongside two larger siblings, is finally on sale and shipping... if you're after the VGC-JS110J/S, that is. Sony's initial plan was to have the full line out and about by "mid-October," though just the bottom-end $999.99 model is currently ready to ship at Amazon. We'd expect the other variations to follow suit shortly, and if you're still trying to make up your mind if this is the all-in-one for you, why not take a look at a review?[Via ComputerMonger]

I'm no fanboy, and I know apple aren't perfect in this respect, but... that looks an AWFUL lot like an Apple keyboard...
you could say that ALL older style keyboards look like 'someones' originally... its not the end of the world if someone is replicating something that works/looks nice/is new... etc etc etC
Maybe it's because it's Sony's design and Apple "stole" it in 2006?
1. Sony definitely stole the idea of the keyboard from Apple.
--Apple invented the keyboard.
2. Sony also stole the idea of a "monitor."
--Apple invented monitors.
3. Sony also stole a thing called "core 2 duo" from apple.
--Apple invented "core 2 duo" in the 1980s. "Core 2 duo" is a special RAM stick that Apple invented.
4. Sony stole the "mouse" from Apple.
--Apple invented the mouse. Apple also invented the Nvidia GPU, which speeds up the mouse. Sony stole the GPU in some of there laptops.
In essence, Apple can sue Sony for billions of dollars for stealing all of their work.
It's not the keyboard that makes me think Apple, it's the stand the PC is resting on - it looks a hell of a lot like a Mac Pro case handle/stand to me.
Holy shit, don't you people READ?! It's been proven like 453756756 times that Sony had that style first.
My comment was @Phoenix btw, I got so enraged by his idiocy it looks like I was referring to the others.
Woah, I'm sorry. I hadn't read any of the apparently so well-known and prevalent articles that explain how it's the other way around.
Like i said, I know apple steal things. I merely said there was a similarity, I wasn't actually pointing a finger at either side. Sorry if it seemed like I was.
@zoopthegame
That was NOT necessary. I HATE apple. I know their products are not revolutionary and ideas tend to be stolen BY ALL SIDES.
I can't say that I'm thrilled by Apple's new keyboard. They look, and feel, like those pads on drum machines. Also, wouldn't they wear out pretty fast from constant use too?
This computer has been at Best Buy for the last three weeks now..
Same here in West Covina.
Look another we-hate-apple-but-we'll-go-ahead-and-use-their-well-implemented-ideas iMac Clone... but ugly.
You might want to check out the Vaio LT's. They're also all-in-one machines, but I think their form factor and design are much better than these JS series. They may cost a bit more, but their quality is outstanding.
I personally think Sony's computer department took a step back with these JS series computers. If they wanted to emulate the look-and-feel of the iMacs, well they did a pretty poor job and shouldn't have done so in the first place. Focusing more on real originals like the LT's and TZ's.
Do any of the Apple fanboys ever read the other posts about Sony making this kind of keyboard BEFORE Apple? Like, 2 years before.
I'm not an apple fanboy. go look at my other posts. Unlike them, my profile isn't private.
I just hadn't read these apparently so well known articles.
Don't people replying on another comment read thoroughly anymore?
Is this Apple copying Sony or Sony copying apple, I'm confused...
I do like the new Apple keyboards(over the clunky old ones), but the plastic version feels nicer(softer) on the white macbook, than the metal version I have on my desktop...
It's a shame other PC manufactures don't use better materials. Sony stuff etc... always looks so cheep and plasticky in person.
Actually it would be better if apple just started using the same up-to-date components that PC manufactures use, and charged the same(sane) prices :0)
I saw one of those at my local Best Buy...
Strange, I didn't think they were shipping yet.
There's been one on display at my local Best Buy for a week and a half now... odd how they are "now shipping" when I could have had one 8 days ago if I felt the need to endure Apple's crap keyboard in a Vista environment. Too bad for Sony, the only torture I'll willingly subject myself to is dinner with the inlaws.
IT'S JUST A KEYBOARD WHO CARES WHO MADE IT FIRST, IT'S NOT EXACTLY A REVOLUTIONARY DESIGN
using caps lock is the worst way to make a good point.
The sad thing is, all of these windows clones of the Imac will doubtless out-sell them by a factor of 50...
My Imac is looking glum, i feel like im cheating on it just looking at this picture.
Get some new ideas windows community? Its been done, well done you lowered the price, well done you made it look horrible...
Not a fan...
Blimey, have you seen the back of this thing?
It looks like the inside of a gameboy!
Some facts:
1. IBM invented the electronic keyboard
2. Woz gets some of the credit there in the commercial / enthusiast world - but there were many home built computers before the Apple 1 that used the monitor concept. Not sure that HP or DEC was not among the first on that bandwagon.
3. Fair enough. go to the 2001 Google index and do a search for iPhone.
4. Mouse - Apple "borrowed" that from Xerox circa '83 or thereabouts. MS Were sniffing around Xerox PARC around the same time but thought the mouse wouldn't have such an impact.
OK - so I am bored AND picky.....
/GF
Does /gf mean you lost your girlfriend? Or is it something else?
Oh! It's your name sorry. Are you going away? You were so helpful though.
Apple invented everything in this world. Story goes that God created Adam and Eva. Well it was actually Apple that created them. Along with the entire universe.
But dont tell anyone about this secret
and then adam bit the apple, hence the logo...
Then they advertised it...
They were certainly going for the iMac thing.
I walked past a small Mom n' Pop computer shop in my hood the other week and saw these through the window and I was sure it was an iMac.
will those run ubuntu?
your mum runs ubuntu
Yes. And Crysis. Also, they will blend. In addition, I, for one, welcome our new VAIO overlords.
You forgot doom. And if it can mow my lawn. And do my laundry. And brush my teeth. I think I'm done.
Seriously Engadget, whats up with all the LATE 'now shipping' news lately?
I work at office depot... they got these a few weeks ago. Garbage, I like the old sony AIO's better. oh well
Nice... I'm gonna get one of these very soon.
I just put it on the shelve at the Best Buy I work at about a week ago and I think its pretty cheap feeling. Wired keyboard and mouse don't go with this "sleek" old fashioned design.
Eric.
@ zoopthegame, its a shame that i see many $tupid people, saying sony stole the stole the idea of the keyboard from Apple. lol
well read this:
It's interesting that I've read a few news reports around the Web stating that Sony has copied the Apple MacBook when it comes to the keyboard design of the TZ1. Unfortunately for all the Apple fans out there, this is simply not true. In fact, Sony implemented this type of separated-button style keyboard in the groundbreaking VAIO X505VP back in 2004.

I'm an Apple-ite and I think it looks very nice. I'd buy one if I needed a PC.
