PSP-3000 ripped to shreds for your enjoyment
Now that the PSP-3000 (or PSP Brite, as our Joystiq friends like to call it) has hit the streets, it was only natural for its innards to be splayed for all the world to see -- it's all part of the circle of life, or some similarly cliche lyric. We wouldn't really know where to begin running through these parts and figuring out what's new, but Impress Watch says it's pretty much the LCD getting all the love here, and that otherwise they're seeing way fewer internal changes than they saw when Sony released the PSP-2000. Sounds about right to us, but we're really just in it for the senseless violence of it all.

Man, this made me dust off my old PSP-1000. Maybe it's time to upgrade; I just don't wanna stop playing Doom and Zelda on my PSP. :)
Was just about to trade in my PSP-2000, then read this Sony forum about issues with screen interlacing. Any 3000 owners able to verify this?

Yep. Definitely happens. I actually think this is a factor of old games using interlacing as a performance trick (because the ghosting hid it), and the new screen being so responsive that it's now visible.
Point being, I saw it immediately in the SF Alpha PSone, but it was not a problem in Wipeout Pure. It all depends on the title, it seems. But obviously with this hardware out now, we won't see it in future games.
(Worth nothing that the game *felt* more responsive and smoother with the 3000 screen even with the interlacing visible)
Yes the screen did get love, but there's also changes to some of the chips on the motherboard that prevent the unit from powering up at all when a Pandora battery is inserted. So in a major change, currently there's no way to enable service mode on the new PSP, so it's a no go.
Ah, shitty! I still like my FATTY-1000. Although the buttons are starting to really wear down =/
until its cracked, i wont be buying one.
The screen was the only reason why I upgraded and especially after holding them up side by side, it was well worth it. The improved color and brightness actually changes the experience.

I noticed screen tearing on killzone liberation but I thought it was always there. I haven't noticed any other issues with the other titles I have played. In most cases it makes the experience better.
i want a portable system with two analog sticks. like pandora, but smaller and more ergonomic, w/o keyboard.
I like the Pandora, especially with the keyboard. Once I get some spare money I'm gonna snag one for sure. Just gotta buy a second PS3 for my wife first, so she stops hogging mine.
Oh, it still has a UMD drive. Boy, imagine how awesome the PSP would be without a UMD drive. It could be 1/3 again thinner -- or maybe have room for twice as much battery space.
Seriously, Sony, especially now that you're selling "UMD Classics" for direct download from the PSP store, why are you still wasting my money with this bullshit tech?
I like UMD. I also like Blu-Ray. I even like DVD and CD. If they ever remove the drive from the PSP as you desire they had better offer an add-on drive.
Yeah, imagine how awesome a PSP would be if it couldnt play PSP games /sarcasm
Just compare Engadget's opening paragraphs regarding the teardowns of the PSP-3000 and the new MacBook. You'd think the Apple teardown was the unveiling of the Shroud of Turin.
Nope. No bias.
Yet it has more features than the latest itouchie-faux'n.
Any reviews of the 3000 up anywhere?
Also... still no EU release date? :(
im just waiting for the next gen psp with dual analogs and ssd:)
No dice, not buying it unless it falls off a truck (COUGH COUGH)
