Your discussion about Apple not jumping on the Blue-ray bandwagon sees a little shortsighted when you followed it up with a discussion about the brilliance of Netflix's download model. Apple is investing in the media future by developing wireless-n and a simple download structure. People like "clean" fast technology that hints at the possibility of a "glamorous" wireless media center.
Blue-ray should have much less market time than DVDs given the rate of advancement. Look at the timeframe for Records, Cassettes, CDs, MP3 (downloads).
A smart company, like Netflix and Apple, will provide support for old technology (discs) while moving toward new (downloadable content) technology.
Imagine if Netflix and iTunes become compatable.
